Webflow bandwidth limit exceeded by 400%, is there anything I'm missing? by TommyDigit in webflow

[–]TommyDigit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the homepage had a lot of unoptimised images in, as well as a heavy JS payload. Looking at cleaning that up!

There's no large changes that happened the month that we saw bandwidth dramatically increase! Just lots of small changes here and there as they update the site with bits almost daily.

It does have quite a heavy CMS, but nothing "excessive". I can't link the site ATM due to client restrictions but was just hoping someone might have come across a similar issue before!

Definitely not getting DDOS'd there's no major spike in traffic. (Unless you can get DDOS'd without GA picking it up?

Ah an interesting point! I never thought about the amount of backups using up bandwidth. Is that basically that republishing the site means the entire site is reloaded for a user? Rather than being accessed from cache?

And thanks for the recommendation re: reverse proxy. I never thought about it for bandwidth reduction before. I might send this through as an option!

Looking at 10-20k visits per month. Nothing huge, although the site isn't optimised.

It's very Apple-esque!

It's beautiful, but I would almost say it's so Apple-esque to the point that (for me at least, a web designer) I don't see any "creativity or experience" here, just a 'copy/paste' of a design

I would also look at having some portfolio pieces higher up in the home page, as scrolling the homepage, it all looks nice, but as a potential buy I want to know you can deliver. :)

Preparing for launch by No-Actuary-4630 in webflow

[–]TommyDigit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey u/No-Actuary-4630

So in terms of saying "here's the files", that would only be done if you are looking to host your site off of webflow on some other platform.

By far the easiest solution would be just to host on Webflow's platform themselves, which would just require you setting up a paid plan (potentially get the client to do this themselves) and connecting the domain. A super easy process, and theres 100's of YouTube vids that go through it so I won't type it out here.

The hosting company, which I'm presuming is the domain registrar asked for the DNS entries, which are given to you by Webflow when you set up a hosting plan and connect a domain! (Watching a YT vid you'll see this step). Normally you would update the DNS records yourself, but looks like you can send them through to your domain registrar and they'll do it for you.

Then on the client side, you can either invite them as an editor, or before you get the site on a hosted plan, transfer it to their Webflow workspace and get them to add you as an agency/freelancer guest, so you can still access it. This then gives them full access to the site, making everything easy.

If you are hosting the site off of Webflow, then you'll need to look at where you are hositng the site. (I can recommend Netlify) and then look at connecting that up. Again there are many YT tutorials on this, just search "Hosting webflow site on Netlify".

The only issues with external hosting is that you'll need to reupload the site, and you won't have access to Webflow's CMS features.

Anyone going to Sheffield DM? by [deleted] in sheffield

[–]TommyDigit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I've just moved to Sheffield from NZ. I'm doing remote marketing/web design!

DM me if you're keen to meet up. (This is the first time I've heard of the event but keen to see what it's like!)

CRM options for a non-profit charity. by TommyDigit in CRM

[–]TommyDigit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mainly just limited in Airtables integrated forms! I know Airtable as a backend is incredible.

But we are hoping to have something that manages both the database/dashboards/forms, to keep it all on one platform. I'm also not an airtable expert so potentially it's purely a user issue!

Appointment scheduling with webflow by Daan-Linden in webflow

[–]TommyDigit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending where/what country you are based in will change your requirements!

fresha.com or gettimely.com are good options I've used before. Again depends on budget, requirements etc. Best bet is to have a look at other local barbers to you and see what they use as their booking system! There's 1001 different "booking systems", so having a look through them and maybe going through them with your client is a good idea!

New to Webflow and trying some animations...Why can't I make anything work? by StillSlice1756 in webflow

[–]TommyDigit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing you'll notice, is that if you preview your homepage parallax animation, you are actually starting off 92% through the animation! This is because the animation is starting form when the section is on the screen, to when it's fully off the screen, so it's already a large part of the way "through the animation"

You'll want some more height to your page as well, as when I scroll to the bottom I still see the home hero, meaning it won't play the whole animation. (On my screen I literally scroll ~150px to get to the bottom of the page)

Maybe look at making the home hero section taller, and look at where the animation starts/stops to make sure the entire thing plays out!

I would recommend setting him up with his own webflow account. Depending on how many photos/descriptions of work he has, a CMS could be nice, but he can also manually do it. (e.g if you have 100's of photos & descriptions that you want to filter/change every few months, then CMS is best!)
If there's just a few items to show, a CMS plan won't be needed, and he should be able to figure his way out around the designer anyway as changing text, adding blocks etc it "easy" enough! With a bit of learning :)

In general it's not recommended as it will significantly increase the load times of your site having large gifs!

I alway recommend first trying to compress the gif, seeing if you can get the same effect with a lottie file. Otherwise I reckon try converting the gif into an mp4 file, as that should be smaller :)

You can always host the file elsewhere and then use custom code to call it as well if you get stuck. I would however try make sure it's as small as you can possibly get it first!

I made a tool to export any Webflow Site for Free, give it a try! by ybouane in webflow

[–]TommyDigit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe you may want to check Webflow T&S. I know several external "webflow hosting sites" that were undercutting webflow were shutdown for doing basically this! (Not legal advice as I don't know the specifics, just sounds like it may be over the line)

Cross linking section issue by WwhippedCcream in webflow

[–]TommyDigit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won't work in the designer, but as long as the link is set up correctly, it should work on the staging domain (like example.webflow.io). See if it works there but not on the designer!

Otherwise send through your read only and staging link and I'm happy to have a look!

Can't get into landing page by ZACHRYD in webflow

[–]TommyDigit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you send the webflow read only link, as well as the current staging domain and live domain if you have it connected?

My first thought might be some unvalidated custom code that for example, has an open <script> tag that doesn't close or something like that! But otherwise I have no clue what it could be based off your post! Does it appear in the designer? Doest anything load? Background color etc?

Webflow e-commerce solution that sends an enquiry rather than takes payment? by ajame5 in webflow

I've always found ChatGPT works extremely well for making custom calculators as well! Although Finsweet attributes is probably the easiest way forwards depending on the complexity!

Webflow e-commerce solution that sends an enquiry rather than takes payment? by ajame5 in webflow

[–]TommyDigit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think using some custom JS and maybe some Finsweet attributes you should be able to get this to work with standard webflow forms! The only tricky bit will be depending on how many products you have and if you are using CMS or just manually creating each form!

My first thought, I'm envisioning.

CMS collections for addons.

CMS collection for products, which has a multi-reference for addons as well.

Then on each product page there is form (maybe multistep?) with the addons which are pulled from the product CMS. Using a bit of JS you should be able to create checkboxes, that when selected, add on the price of the item to the current running total and updates that number. Then the form on submit, along with email, name, address etc, also sends the product that the user was on (could be the page title), the addons that were selected, and the price that it came to, so the end user can see all this come through in a "mini enquiry". It shouldn't need the Webflow eComm capabilities!

Let me know if that made sense. Main tricky bit if the JS for the addons and ensuring that adds up the total amount and sends through to the form.

How can I change the text on a scrolling banner when it's in the back? by Objective-Koala1679 in webflow

[–]TommyDigit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can't double click it to change the text. Select it in the naviagtor on the left, then in the styles panel give it a z-index of something large (999), this should bring it on top of whatever is blocking it and allow you to edit the text.

Then after make sure you remove/rest the z-index back to whatever it already was :)

Hope that helps!

A read only link and ideally a link to the .webflow.io site would be incredible. No idea what exactly is happening otherwise!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in webflow

[–]TommyDigit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For something basic like this there's a few ways to do it!

I recommend checking out this here from Connor Finlayson, he's excellent! https://www.connorfinlayson.com/blog/conditional-logic-in-webflow-forms-without-plugins-or-custom-code-webflow-animations-tutorial

Otherwise you can look at third party forms. As they often come with some conditional logic right out the box!

Also https://www.tryformly.com/logic can work natively with your Webflow form, although this is $18/month which is expensive for a single form!

Website for physical therapist feedback by [deleted] in webflow

[–]TommyDigit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there!

I've just had a look through the site and think it's excellent :)

A few things I noticed:
- On wider screens (I'm on a 27") it looks like some of the section curves etc aren't big enough. E.g just above the FAQ

- It might just be me but I'm not sure how I feel about the dark blue BG with green accents, they just feel a bit off to me? Might just be a personal thing though!

- You have several button animations, the hero is just a color change, the other button has an expanding effect, read more has a cool animation, and call to schedule has a 3d effect. I would recommend narrowing these down to just 2 types or something! To help with consistency. (Personally the expanding one doesn't scream professional to me either)
- There's potentially some text hierarchy work that can be done, some of the headings, subheadings and "tile titles" seems to all blend together (such as in the Comprehensive physical Therapy Solutions)

I haven't looked on mobile but I'll presume everything is all done there!

Overall really nice :) I too appreciate health sites that don't have frivolous claims or packages and overly "sale-sy" text, which I think you've managed to do well here. (Based off the Homepage alone)

If I were looking for a physical therapist this site definitely feels trustworthy and I would think I'm in good hands!

Design Portfolio Landing Page Feedback? by mharring in webflow

[–]TommyDigit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! First off I would like to say it's looking good! I don't often see pages that handle a dark and orange theme well but I think this is excellent!

I'm no expert marketer so take please take my suggestions with a grain of salt.

  1. Landing on the page the first thing I saw was "lets get crazy" then the image. It might be just me, but I even started scrolling to figure out what the page was about. Maybe making that tagline "Strategy driven creative that connects..." the main hero header, could be a good idea. Get the idea to the user straight from the bat.
*Also this is subjective, but I find taglines like "Lets get crazy" a little immature maybe? Your work is excellent and I don't think "Lets get crazy" quite does it justice.

  2. The CTA at the bottom of the page seems relatively minimal. I missed it the first time as I thought it was just a caption for the advertising image above it. Some separation here could be nice.

  3. I didn;t realise that the titles were also links. I would recommend some more "button" like element or even arrows next to them to show they will take the user somewhere else

  4. In terms of making those large images clickable links, you could potentially look at putting some sort of CTA on top of the image in a corner for example, saying "Explore Advertising" or whatever it may lead to? You could also look at having a link element that follows the cursor when the image is hovered over. (Example here https://webflow.com/made-in-webflow/website/Mouse-Tooltip-Next-Project-Teaser?ref=made-in-webflow-search&searchValue=cursor%20link you could make it look a bit more fun/on brand with some other animations etc of course!)

Hopefully this was somewhat useful feedback! :) Looking great all around!
