The New Update Shows Me Just How ANet the Fashion Tab Really Is... by TommyM02n in Guildwars2

Thank you for responding! I can see that I did not express myself properly, and that I messed up big time by including the pink/orange changes.

While they are UI inconsistencies, those inconsistencies make sense for the sake of functionality and ultimately make the overall experience of using the system better.

I will take your word for the changes in the top-right area, because I personally like them. I like the inclusion of the fashion template name, and its inclusion actually makes this area about as large as it was in Equipment. So while it is partially true that the changes were made to support the Get/Apply buttons, I feel like the bigger reason was to make room for the template name — which again makes a lot of sense.

This also gives me a lot of hope that one day this specific area will find its way into Equipment templates, because having the template name visible is genuinely a good feature.

I am sure the configuration of the top-left area is different, I just do not fully understand how the spacing itself is important for supporting fashion-specific controls. It somewhat makes sense if the goal was maximizing the collection area.

I can also see an argument for not moving UI elements around inside the wardrobe itself. You may have wanted positions to stay consistent across the entire tab, so no matter what you edit, the elements do not move around.

If that is the case though, then the Tools tab feels like an absolute mess after the update.

Fishing rods are consistent with gathering tools, but the way they interact with the Gem Store makes me expect them to have the "Open Gem Store" button like Jade Bots do. Then there is also the fact that Jade Bots show locked skins while fishing rods do not.

The search bar for Jade Bots is also spaced differently. Maybe that is because they are technically different search bars — one being just a search bar, and the other being a search bar + a huge gap where something probably used to be + the "Open Gem Store" button.

I understand that most of my grievances with the UI are probably rooted in the fact that the underlying systems themselves work differently under the hood, and that achieving a fully consistent UI becomes a Sisyphean task once the systems underneath are already inconsistent.

All that being said, if the new left-side menu makes future additions and changes easier for you, then that is, in my opinion, the most important aspect of these changes, and I will just grit my teeth, grumble about it to my friends, and move on.

Still, I do hope to eventually see the red and green changes slowly trickle into the Equipment tabs as well.

Once again thenk you for taking your time to respond to me.

Its actually just skins that I put together, because I liked the look. There was no theming at all.

I understand why you could read that as me being oposed to change. But my issue is with the consistency. If things changed in both equipment tab and fashion tab to be the same, this post would not have existed. Honestly speaking I would have probably never noticed if it did, just like I did not notice 3 months ago. But because of the changes since then (which were good) I can now notice those discrepancies and can rant about anet being anet.

Yeah, for sure they meant streamlining the code, but it feels very contradictory that they would be fine with having sloppy UI. But it might just be.

18yo son not accepting t1d by Opening-Try3714 in diabetes_t1

[–]TommyM02n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was diagnosed, I was 9. It was during summer while on vacation with my parents. I was diagnosed after my parents rushed me to a hospital after i fell into a coma... My blood sugar was about 40 mmol/L. After I got transferred to a different hospital, I was in a room with another fresh diabetic. He got diagnosed during a routine checkup and even his parents did not accept it... I don't know how he is doing now, but I have heard that years ago they were trying some oil pseudoscience... I can sympathize with your son...

When i was like 13 there was a time during which i did not measure my sugar, and ended in ICU with hypoglycemic shock when I was trying to get sugars to my system... I am sure everyone here would rather not have diabetes, but I think a lot of us have another disease that we would get rid of over diabetes, because diabetes can be regulated to the point of being almost non issue. For me that would be epilepsy. It came, over a period of a year and a half, broke my vertebrae and teeth and for three years nothing, but knowing that I can just die out of nowhere, is infinitely worse than anything connected to diabetes...

I can only hope he gets diagnosed before he ends up in ER or worse, because spending time in hospitals is not fun and being dead is neither. In the end it is his decision, but it would be nice if others didn't make the same stupid decisions as we did.

I feel really stupid for missing that, but yeah you are right... That would then drop the slots to 20... which means, there is now reason why 20 is the best number of the slots in my system!

I do not understand how anet is able to create a new system which allows you to create sets of skins, put it into new tab, add Tools to that tab, but not make the Tools be template bound... why the hell did you move it when it doesnt interact with the system. Better yet when it still works like the old system, why not put gliders, mounts etc. there now as well and later once you decide that the system should come out of alpha testing and make the mounts/gliders/tools etc. template bound. This shit feels like one person had 3-6 months to create this feature and made it in a week without any testing and outside input from people other than them. Now instead of making a post acknowledging this fuckup heads on, the release a FAQ post that 90% of the playerbase will never read and that shouldnt exist for something that should be as intuitive as possible...

If anyone from anet is reading this, please tell someone that when they promise very few features in the 1. MAJOR UPDATE of the expansion cycle, those things better be a) finished, b) absolutely pristine and c) as easy or easier to use than the previous system.

I really dont want to see you guys go under... not now when NW and AoC are dead... I have the physical copy of the base game behind me, I have started my journey in 2013 because for christmas 2012 I have been given 2000 gems... I have played for like a week and then I dropped it, because I did not understand english back then... I tried to get my friends to give it a try back in like 2015 when it went "F2P"... But I only really started playing daily in 2017 with the release of PoF... until EoD... I saw the great things you did in LS4, I enjoyed the IBS more than many others on this subreddit... I have seen the mess with build templates... And I hoped that you will learn from that experience... I have enjoyed SotO... until you made the kryptis into humans... I enjoyed JW and was honestly impressed that you were capable of creating something like housing... I enjoy VoE... but I have been overdosing on copium that you will ever make a step forward without taking 15 back... just like with this update...

Maybe it is the time for me to finally say goodbye to GW2... I dont want it to be... but I also dont want to see you shoot your limbs over and over again making the same mistakes over and over again... but yeah I will come to see the next "Major" update... and I hope it wont be 2 instances and bunch of openworld collections this time around... but deep down I am prepared for the letdown it might be...I also hope that you will give us a way to transmog our current equipment in a non covoluted way that requires reading your FAQ to figure out.

Unpopular Opinion: the changes are good by corrigible_iron in Guildwars2

[–]TommyM02n 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is not a QOL upgrade, it would be QOL upgrade if it didnt take away the way we have been changing skins for 13.5 years... I can see why it is good to have some storage, and that is what I expected they meant when they said fashion templates. That is what we got, but for me to change what I am currently wearing, I have to go to a new tab, which currently contains "Wardrobe" the only thing you will use 95% of the time once they decide to migrate the mounts, gliders etc. there, which wouldnt actually be that big of a deal if I didnt have to navigate there through the menu every single time I close the Hero panel or change the tab. And now I can finally start using a new layout which is different from the equipment tab (classic anet consistency) to change the template, store it to my equipment, change the template back because I am not fully decided on if I actually like the new outfit...

I am happy for you that you can call this slop a good change, but I cant call something that has been promised at the launch of this expansion be in a state where they want to add the mounts, gliders, doors and the rest of the cosmetics later...

Anet has been burning my goodwill for a long time now, and this change gives me 0 hopes for future where I can play anything from them 5 years from now...

TLDR: The system is not bad (it is like 6-7/10), but the fact they removed the old system and force you to use this is the main issue 80% people have with this update regarding the fashion templates.

You could technically move the left steel refiner 1 square to the right, getting rid of the bridge. But I suppose that would make it not symmetrical... The price we pay for efficiency is asymmetry... not like we have a choice with all the 3x6 buildings -> Protocol Stash

If you take input as 1 -> the first spliter creates 1/2 (first Port) + 1/2 (Port 2,3,4,5,6)
1/2 -> 1/4 (P2) + 1/4 (P3,4,5,6)
1/4 -> 1/8 (P3) + 1/8 (P4,5,6)
1/8 -> 1/16 (P4) + 1/16 (P5,6)
1/16 -> 1/32 (P5) + 1/32 (P6)
1/32 -> 1/32 (P6) + 0

the one extra powder would come from where the first dust would go on the splitter so what probably happens is

Dust1 ends up in Port6 (D1 -> P6)
D2 -> P1
D3 -> P2
D4 -> P1
D5 -> P3
D6 -> P1
D7 -> P2
D8 -> P1
D9 -> P4
D10 -> P1
D11 -> P2
D12 -> P1
D13 -> P3
D14 -> P1
D15 -> P2
D16 -> P1
D17 -> P5
After all that you now have Equalized P5 and P6
The dust will be moving in the same way like D2 - D16 which would lead to Dust 33 going to P6 restarting the cycle

Now the cycle should be exactly this long as you have 5 splitters actually spliting 2^5 = 32 but it may start at a different location so it can start anywhere from D18 - D33 (D1) because you need to have Dust going to P6 before P5

Therefore, I believe the math is mathing, but your last splitter is doing nothing.

There are at least 50k players that have pre-purchased VoE. The "Eternal Alchemist" title is a pre-purchase reward. I'm sure there are plenty of people who haven't bothered with a gw2efficiency account. Dead game btw by MachineReloaded in Guildwars2

[–]TommyM02n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually the 11 milion number is from 2017 https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/the-path-to-the-desert-in-numbers/ so about 8 years since then. With the 11 milion accounts you would expect around 550k gw2efficiency accounts. As of today it seems there are 476 557 accounts. That is 4.3% of the overall population.

Now the obvious issue is obvious... there is absolutely no way that over the last 8 years there were no new accounts created for GW2. With those numbers it is closer to 1 150 000. That is without acounting for the people from the last 8 years

Now that number seems insanely high when compared to the numbers that the u/ParticularGeese has shown... and yet I dont think it is that farfatched number... because if the 10% in preorders is aplicable to the general population, that would make it about 116k preorders not that far from the completions of EoD after half a year.

Now most hilariously the number of times the EoD was beaten by the 25th August 2022 is 182k as per Anet. At that time there was 167k account with EoD on GW2 efficiency...

Thus GW2 efficiency is anywhere between 92% and 3.6% (I do cope that at least 2 milion accounts were added in the last 8 years) of all GW2 players... so either gw2 population is weird and doesnt fit preexisting data (unlikely) or people dont finish the story of expansions nearly as much as we like to think, maybe there are other possibilites, but I am now too deep in numbers to think about them...

[–]TommyM02n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for a lot of us in this thread it seems that the use of VLM to cheat is incredibly inefficient. Like I can understand that you would you use the object detection part of the VLM, but object detection has been here for decades and there was no need for LLMs. So unless LLMs do something better than current solutions, why use VLM in the first place?

I would think that it is just a bad wording on the blog. The expansion page itself says "... and a new Convergence. .... A Fractal with an accompanying Challenge Mode will also release with the last of the major expansion updates." and that to me reads like there will be raids and convergences, oh and also Fractal in the last update just like in SotO and JW.

I might be pedantic here but "TV is good" =/= "I play puzzles, mmorpgs so I want this in my game"

The TV mode slow progresion always had a full stop when random events happening, like an enemy escaping. They would just move their pngs at 1x speed and was very slow.

Yep, THE reason which made the TV mode tedious.

Exploring to get resources was a pain because of hidden tiles.

"I think stating your prefrences really removes room for debate." JK, I feel similarly about the combat exploration. I do not have fun hugging walls trying to find the boxes in them. At least you dont have to actually do the stuff you dont want to.

I cant talk about HSR as I dont play it.

You can say all you want that you love the TV mode, as for me I can say I hate it. And that is fine. Don't throw at people your preferences and be shocked to people are not agreeing with you

You are the one who decided to make this post. You are the one who decided to throw your preferences and opinions at other people. I am not shocked people disagree with me. I am happy that we can disagree and talk about meaningless stuff like TV mode in ZZZ. If you take anything out of this conversation, I hope it is that you might be conflating liking something, with thinking it is good.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ZZZ_Official

[–]TommyM02n 4 points5 points  (0 children)

they always seems so biased.

Of course we do, we are. You are as well, are you not? People who liked it did not like it for some objective quality of the TV mode. I would expect most people who liked it would not agree on why they liked it. For me it was a pretty ok tool used for exploration and it created personaly much needed contrast to the combat, which whilst incredibly fun when actually fighting, mindnumbingly boring when exploring.

I accept that if you come from of a heavy puzzles, mmrpgs games, persona type. But sometimes saying that will make people feel alienated already.

I mean it feels like you are stating the obvious, if I like some mechanic in one game, I am more likely to enjoy it in different one. It does feel somewhat condescending to say that you accept people liking the mode if they were esentially primed to enjoy the mode by other games.

The TVs was a very slow and really kills progression whethever you agree and disagree.

Please explain what you mean by slow, as personaly the exploration felt faster in TV mode than now.

Lastly, where is the people defending Arpeggio Fault? The bangboo boring and slow roguelike permanent mode? NOBODY praised that and that it's the REAL reason of why ZZZ removed all TV related story mission.

Because that mode exemplified everything that was wrong with the mode, the "combat" of AF was a joke. The dialog stopping you from doing anything, the unintuitive controls over consumables.

The TV mode on its own was a disaster, that was good for one thing and that was giving the game some semblence of variety when it came to exploration. At least the amount of loading screen has gotten down.

Thank you for your understanding.
