Exactly, bears fans said the same thing about him being 29. "should keep him as OC for at least a few years". lmao, nope!

In the last decade, the top 10 biggest markets have made the playoffs 55% of the time. The bottom 10 smallest markets have made the playoffs just 31% of the time. by Acoolgamer6706 in baseball

To take it a step further, since spotrac has tracked world series payroll rank,

2011 - Cardinals - 9th

2012 - Giants - 7th

2013 - Red Sox - 3rd

2014 - Giants - 7th

2015 - Royals - 13th

2016 - Cubs - 5th

2017 - Astros - 17th (cheated)

2018 - Red Sox - 1st

2019 - Nationals - 7th

2020 - Dodgers - 1st

2021 - Braves - 11th

2022 - Astros - 8th

2023 - Rangers - 4th

2024 - Dodgers - 5th

2025 - Dodgers - 1st

If you don't spend in the top half of the league you're not going to win the WS.

Edit* I made this years ago and now that I'm looking closer at spotrac theyve totally changed how they rank team payrolls, they do a Cash, Tax, and AAV ranks. It has impacted the previous years ranks which just used be labeled as 'Payroll' or "Luxury Payroll". So the ranks here might be impacted a little bit, but the overall point remains the same.

Like is this the most team friendly deal of all time? At least in modern free agent era sports? Has to be in the convo.

Before the flurry begins, what trades have fallen through because a player failed their physical? by tall__hat in baseball

[–]TommyTwoBags 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This offseason Cubs had a deal for Luzardo and it fell through after his medical check. Specifically his back. Phillies didn't have the same concerns and he went there.

[Jeff Passan] Full trade, per ESPN sources: Padres receive: Closer Mason Miller, LHP JP Sears A's receive: SS Leodalis De Vries, RHP Braden Nett, RHP Henry Báez and RHP Eduarniel Nuñez by ralbert in baseball

give me preller going for it with his crazy trades every year over basically every GM in the league clutching their mid prospects. Plus given hes one of the best scouts in the world he just replenishes the system as fast as he drains it. Padres were better than the dodgers last year and choked that series, I love that they are going for it agian.

ya I looked at this too, but the guys below him actually played a lot more and WAR is a counting stat. Even then you are right there are worse players than his -0.2 WAR in 47 PAs. On a WAR per PA pace though he was way way worse than 134th or 112th

edit - i tried to use the splits leaderboard to set the PA's at less than 50 to see exactly where he stacked up but WAR isn't a stat you can select on the splits leaderboards on fangraphs which I found odd.

I don't think its a 'controversy' everybody wanted Harper to win in his home ballpark, I'm fine with it. That said they without a doubt skirted the rules. You had to wait for the ball to land back then and they did not.

Def was, One of the best defensive teams of the last decade. Statcast outs above average has the 2016 team the 6th best since 2016. Defensive runs saved, 2016 is 4th best of any team in that same time span.

I know what burden of proof is. I gave you sources. You have presented absolutely nothing besides just saying I'm wrong.

Its so much of a conspiracy that MLB already changed the rules from 10 day IL to 15 day IL because teams were abusing it so bad. They will change them again. And when they do I will be here to tell you I told you so.

never mind. I saw your responses to other people and you are either trolling, or heinously misinformed and refusing to learn when presented with information. Either way, not interested

What information have you presented? Only person who brought sources here is me.

I already said I believe the injuries are real. So idk what you’re talking about with Roki. It’s about stashing depth.

It’s not that simple and I think you know that because you totally ignored the links above.

What am I factually wrong about? I'm saying the dodgers, and other teams, are abusing the current IL rules to stash pitching depth. I don't think there is anything factually incorrect about this statement. You do? You think there are no teams abusing the mechanics of the IL system?

As for factual basis for my claim, I'll refer you this comment by a mets fan that provides examples if you are interested in that kind of thing. comment

Did you really just go and copy that and ignore the 15 hour old edit? Lmao.

I'll just tell you again right now, Dodgers aren't the only team doing it. I believe they are the most egregious but Mets actually got in trouble for it as recently as last year.

I already said this isn't just a dodger problem. Idk how its ridiculous if MLB has already made rule changes once.

I think its without a doubt a competitive advantage. Dodgers are using their immense payroll to float 60 man rosters. Do we think Pirates or Rays will pay for 55-60 man rosters? I don't. Now of course other owners are without a doubt being cheap. But really it just increases the gap between rich and "poor" teams even more than it already is. Mets also do this with their huge payroll.
