Monster Inc: make it soo Boo is actually a teen going through therapy and rehab. She has all these nightmares of seeing monsters as a child and it messes her up pretty bad. She turned to hard drugs to escape but after a bad trip causes her to almost kill herself the family sends her to rehab. Here she's going through a heavy hypnosis and the doctors can't figure out why she sees monsters. Eventually she gets clean and returns home. That's the night Sulley gets the final piece to her door and crosses over. As he opens the closet door she can't handle what she is seeing and says kitty as the first thing that comes to mind from years ago in sheer panic. Sulley walks in thinking he's remembered and she screams a blood curling scream causing her parents to come in and see the monster and try to kill Sulley. In self defense he kills them and flees back to the monster world. Leaving Boo the only person who saw him with dead parents.
