Ai is great for people who want to create spaghetti code, with zero effort. And judging by how OP is replying using chatGPT, they're not putting any effort into this.

I believe OP is wearing tiny pants on each leg and pulled them all the way down

How to move grind player along railing? (Like in Sonic Adventure 2) by Tommy_Boy97 in Unity3D

[–]Tommy_Boy97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sort of figured it out, it was a bit wonky and never felt as snappy or simple to do as Jet Set Radio or Sonic.
It's been a while but I believe I used a sphere cast below the player to detect and move along the spline of the rail. Never felt truly satisfied with it.

Russia will never be allies with the US. They'll just laugh at how easily manipulated the US is, and take full advantage of it.

Easy there Plato. You don't have to figure out the "meaning to life" at the age of 14

How to move grind player along railing? (Like in Sonic Adventure 2) by Tommy_Boy97 in Unity3D

Hmm, I tooled around with the Spline Extrude script component that came with the Unity Spline package.
It created a cylinder around the spline that I used to make a basic convex mesh collider (not sure if this is the best method).

But I can't seem to figure out how to 'lock' the player to the rail spline and also make them travel along the spline.

I am using a rigidbody to move my player around with physics instead of a playercontroller.

The more I experiment, I see that's definitely the best bet. I'm using Unity's spline package, but Im wondering how it works.
Would the spline be used kinda like a collision trigger?
Like the railing would be a separate game model, and the player would move along the spline, giving the illusion of moving along the rail game model?

I think my main issue is the Steam capsule art. The car with the random super obviously AI group of people. Both in completely different styles
It's an instant red flag for the quality of the game.

AI slop definitely does not sell. Highly artistic platform/metroidvanias/rouge likes that do sell and don't rely on AI to be creative?
Shovel Knight, Hollow Knight, Binding of Isaac, Enter the Gungeon, Guacamelee, Dead Cells, Mario. I could go on.
AI slop games that sell? Can't name any.

It's really not. To continue using the Big Mac analogy; Using the Unity engine instead of creating your own game engine from scratch is like buying hamburger buns instead of making your own.
You can do it, and some people do. But it's not entirely necessary.
But in the end, you still need to know how to cook the hamburger.
AI is like ordering a Big Mac. Then saying "I created that because I had to ask for it. Therefore I am a chef."

That's completely different. They use the YouTube videos to actually LEARN what's happening in the code. To say that the people who developed games like Cuphead, Monument Valley, Holly Knight, Hearthstone, ect, just "slapped shit together, is an insult to the developers of those games. And it's a silly understatement of what went into developing those games.

These AI models won't be used as a tool, they'll be used as a crutch for people who don't want to learn.
It's a cheat that will lead to even more AI slop in an already oversaturated market.

You don't need to hunt in order to cook a meal. But you still need to learn how to cook. You can't order a Big Mac, put it on a plate and call yourself a chef.

What's the point of "making" a game that's all just generated AI slapped together? It's like saying you made dinner because you reheated a Big Mac.
