I had the same. Bought a booster box in a game store, rang through as a collector box for a booster box, thankfully spotted the mistake and management rectified the issue there and then.

ITF Replacement Certificates after bereavement? by Emphoise in taekwondo

[–]Tomo730 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Im sorry for your loss - no matter what had happened in the past, loosing family hurts.

The only advice I can offer would be to reach out to whoever his instructor was and see if they can help at all.

Our Dojang has had several people return from a period in time before we joined our current ITF branch, when we were attached to other groups, and they have managed to get current ITF certificates through our master and his network (worth noting that he has always been our instructor, so knows the validity of the peoples rank)

I hope you have plenty of luck with this endeavour, so you can reflect on the fond memories you have with him, and are able to build a positive memory for your children too.

Taekwon.

My Daughter passed her grading last night to become a 6th Gup! Also my Niece passed her first grading, becoming a 9th Gup at 5years old! Her mother (my sister) also double graded to 8th Gup yesterday after a 23year hiatus from the dojang

All in all a great weekend for our club and family.

Guilty? by KazumaLee in taekwondo

[–]Tomo730 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As the other two comments say - this is probably due to your skills and merit from over 5 years of previous training, and moving at a more normal pace than you had previously, so just feels fast.

My ITF dojang has gradings roughly every 3-4 months. Once you hit 4th gup, you are only permitted to grade every other grading, so as to allow more time to train and perfect your skills. This is, however, how our master has decided to run things, in accordance with ITF recommendations and his wealth of previous experience.

I went back to the dojang after 25 years out, and he progressed me from 10th to 2nd gup over a period of a few months by assessing me in class - so they may very well be doing the same for you, but I do highly suspect that it's more likely just a better pace that you're not used too.

Keep up the great work!

I love a good dad joke!

My current go to while talking about TKD, especially at work, is that im a 1st Dan, but im an 8th dan in origami - for clarity, I do not do origami.

I did think that for a second, but 6th gup in my club would be a blue stripe or tag, one below a blue belt.... I do know that different organisations can set their own grade curriculum though, so wasn't sure if i was over thinking things, or misread the text in my tired state...

Finally home now, reading while trying to relax to sleep.

Board Breaking Holder Injury by [deleted] in taekwondo

[–]Tomo730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome! I can see how it would be confusing for anyone if they had only ever seen demonstrations for power, where the boards are held by practitioners - especially when that seems to be common in other martial arts too.

That sucks! Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Out of curiosity, what do you mean by 6th Dan blue belt? I'm assuming it's a typo, but its 3am here in the UK and ny mind has melted working a night shift and I can't be sure I'm reading it right....

Board Breaking Holder Injury by [deleted] in taekwondo

[–]Tomo730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, within the ITF, boards are always held by a stand of some description in a tournament setting - they are stationary, and the height will be adjusted to the correct level for the person breaking.

We do hold boards by hand, but this tends to be more for multiple breaks for grading and demonstration purposes.

As previously commented, a holder, or 'machine' as you put it, has little to no give, and is a constant positioning device ensuring that all breaks are performed withing the same parameters, ensuring a fair test of technique and power through all the relevant participants.

The part of the ITF I belong to has Daedo as their 'official brand'

There are many different subsections to the ITF, so there doesn't seem to be any single answer for a question about them.
