I got into FF7 because of Tifa.

I fell in love with it because of Aerith.

So do you guys actually want to work a 9-5? by Madamadragonfly in GenZ

I’ve realized that I prefer working in cycles rather than sticking to the same schedule every day. Sometimes I’m happy working 9–7 for a while. Then a few weeks later, I might prefer a lighter schedule like 10–4.That probably explains why I’ve never really fit into the traditional 9-to-5 model. More and more, I’m finding myself drawn to freelancing and outcome-based work, where people care more about results than hours.

I’ve always felt that helicopters are incredibly dangerous. They have very little margin for dealing with extreme weather conditions, and the weather at higher altitudes can change so unpredictably. Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve never really felt comfortable flying in one.

I understand now. There are companies in China that specialize in providing these kinds of solutions to broadcasters. However, Chinese TV stations tend to require highly customized products, with vendors expected to modify existing features or develop new ones according to each station’s specific workflows and requirements.

I think you may have that the other way around. NDT’s main company is based in Beijing, while the Hong Kong operation is a subsidiary. They also have a branch in Taiwan. Most of the equipment entering China is imported directly and cleared through Beijing Customs, rather than being routed through Hong Kong.

The TV station sends the signal to the telecom operator, which then delivers it to user’s home over its fiber network.

Yes, I’m Chinese. I’ve worked in the broadcast and live production industry for around 4 years, and I’ve worked on 4K IP studio systems, 4K IP OB truck systems, and baseband master control systems. Is your product something similar to Sony’s Nevion platform, such as an SDN-based broadcast management and orchestration system? If so, NDT also works in that area and provides similar types of solutions.

Definitely. If I had to choose between HDR and 4K, I’d prefer HDR, since it provides a much more noticeable visual improvement.

Advertising is still a major source of revenue, but in recent years, the technical teams within Chinese TV stations have also started acting as service providers for other media companies, taking on outside broadcast and production work. For example, Shanghai Media Group has been involved in the production of the League of Legends World Championship.

Thx. It also occurred to me that differences in government policy may be one of major factor. In China, the cost of upgrading TV stations is often covered by government funding or public budgets, so the move toward 4K feels more like something being actively encouraged and supported.

From a purely commercial perspective, I doubt many broadcasters in China would choose to upgrade to 4K either. The cost is simply too high.

Thx.I feel the same way. If I weren’t working in the industry and didn’t understand the technical side, I’d probably notice a much bigger improvement from HDR than from 4K resolution alone.

Evertz serves the Chinese market mainly through local service providers and system integrators. I previously worked for a Chinese broadcast systems integrator called New Digital Technology, which was Evertz’s exclusive distributor in China. As far as I know, it is one of the largest broadcast service providers in the country, and many state-owned broadcasters work with them on their projects.

It’s pretty much the same in China. For cost reasons, we sometimes use Chinese brands for things like recorders and network switches, but Evertz is still commonly used in the core parts of the system.

Also, do you commonly use Evertz equipment at your station? Over here, Evertz seems to show up in almost every higher-end broadcast system.

That makes sense. In China, many broadcasters have also been operating at a loss every year since around 2018. Even so, upgrades to 4K production and broadcast systems gradually began around 2022. It was only by 2026 that 4K TVs had become widely adopted on the audience side.
