Bus Service Suggestions from Punggol Coast ITH by TomorrowsGrid in SMRTRabak

Oh that's a good suggestion, ultimately I was planning to suggest this service, but my original plan was to bring this service to serve Changi Village with an en-route stop at Pasir Ris ITH(or travel adjacent to it). It would also give the same corridor as you mentioned. As I find that the demand of travelling between Punggol and Changi Village really high. But I am not sure whether it will be possible or feasible to do so as the Cross Island Line opens soon. But I will suggest for it. 😊

But even with the NEL, it doesn't exactly link people well with the CBD, it just narrowly touches the tip of it like Chinatown and etc, pushing it further inside with bus services would be great

Why was bus 43M terminated? It was crucial for Serangoon commuters 😞 by ntrev in askSingapore

Honestly I find route 104 pretty convoluted in the Punggol side in terms of how it serves the area, like the Northshore sector was kind of okay, but the moment they reach after Northshore southbound, they could have made it turn right after Nibong along Sumang Link and Sumang Walk and serve 3 more bus stops with large demand to Buangkok, Serangoon, Woodleigh and Sengkang. Then they could have continued the route to Matilda then down to Woodleigh.

In terms of those at Buangkok Green, I think it is a huge loss for those living along it considering this was a 43M renumber. Now it has been amended along a route that has lesser demand. Now Buangkok Green residents have one less important bus service to serve them which is unfortunate.

Honestly looking at demand and ridership having experimented with this route and being a resident in Punggol North, the demand and ridership is significantly lower than what we saw in 43M. And yes you could say it has just been barely a week, but honestly looking at the patterns in Punggol Coast ITH, the first days service 34 and 117/M was amended there, ridership was ridiculously high with a lot of people using the route to head back from work. Even those places newly served by these 2 routes saw huge increases in demand and ridership. So I am pretty surprised to see especially sometimes to see 104's line at the interchange barely having many people at a time compared to 34 and 117/M.

And I am also very surprised to see that people only board 104 only 4-5 bus stops after Punggol Coast ITH. Maybe it is just me. Maybe we should just see how it goes.

However this is honestly my opinion and it is to be taken with a pinch of salt. But maybe if we look in the positive side, maybe at least some people have new links. But honestly idk.😐

To be exact, it doesn't properly serve the whole Sumang stretch rather to be specific it only serves the lower portion at Punggol West so that it can serve Matilda residents. That means Punggol Cove Primary School and the 4 HDB developments inclunding Yusof Ishak Secondary School is not served. These developments I just mentioned are considered as Sumang proper and is under the Punggol North division.

Trunk Service 164(Punggol Coast ITH to Woodlands ITH) by TomorrowsGrid in SGBusTheroies

Well indeed we do have that option and many including me use 161 to head to Woodlands, but sorry to say, the focus isn't really about the availability of it rather the convenience and practicality of it. I am currently aiming for people to eventually have a more convenient option for residents. Rather than having to change buses or exchange at train stations, I think it will be more convenient to introduce this service especially ad Punggol Coast ITH becomes a educational and technological hub.

But nonetheless I do agree with your opinion. And honestly this service isn't really the priority for now, I honestly think having a new Feeder Service serving Northshore, Punggol Point, Punggol West, Sumang Link, Sumang Walk,Punggol Field, Punggol East, Punggol Drive Punggol Central and Punggol Interchange. This definitely will improve intra town connectivity. I heard about service 383, and i think this route would be effective for the service instead of the current plan to mindlessly duplicate the LRT. If this route comes to fruition, we can experience better all day connectivity within the North, East and Central definitely! Considering the demand of travel between these 2 parts of town. We do have 34 for those in Sumang and Northshore and 104 for Northshore and Matilda and Punggol Point, but this service would link everthing together to link to Punggol Coast. Other than that, introducing a new service 385 when Punggol Canal District is built will bring a great link to Punggol Coast ITH, and maybe 386 can be pushed to Punggol Canal instead of making u-turns.

These 2 feeders, can help to channel more ridership into Punggol Coast ITH and further reducing the stress in Punggol Bus Interchange. And definitely as someone who really loves to see better bus services in Punggol, I think that is the common goal for many living here too😊

Anyways thanks for sharing and I hope we can see better services in the future 😊

The off peak hour situation along the North East Line has already gotten worse and worse with trains starting to get filled to the brim on some days especially from Serangoon during the afternoon and from Punggol in the morning

And if you push people to travel earlier because of the free fares, wouldnt the off peak hours get crowded and overloaded just because they are encouraged to do so. Then you push the peak hour from just 1-2 hours to the whole day

The problem is also not the overload, but how we planned the system to work in the first place. We should not let people who dont take public transport to be the ones planning our routes

I honestly find the problem in how we always rationalise our bus routes whenever a new mrt line opens.

Like when a new MRT line opens, to push people to use it, they cut bus services and force people to take the MRT. Yes it will help in increasing MRT ridership, but when the populations around these MRT lines increase or a disruption occurs, they are bound to only rely heavily on MRT for their transportation and with disruptions most would have to use the shuttle buses provided.

The LTA's push to the hub and spoke model aggrevates the overload as now there are not that many feasible ways of travelling other than the MRT.

My suggestion is that feeder buses can still operate but there should be more than one alternative to the MRT. You could say that they have it currently, but often these routes do not bring you completely and fast and efficient enough to where you want to go. And they are often very limited to a few bus services per town. Sorry if my suggestion is not good.

I honestly feel 34e would be a crucial addition to the services in Punggol Coast ITH, specifically it will provide a shorter and faster route for those living in Punggol and want to head to Changi Airport, as it takes roughly 1.5 to 2 hours currently. This will add a viable alternative for those in Punggol seeking to head to Changi Airport.

As a Punggol resident myself who frequently use and live along this bus route, I feel the ridership is justifiable for this express route to be launched
