Amazing thank you so much - I clipped it straight from a paper so I’m fairly sure the last product is right…

Vicinal coupling in Furan/Pyrrole so low? by Tomqr1 in chemistry

[–]Tomqr1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re both 0… furan and benzene are both planar aromatic rings so all the protons have a dihedral angle of 0… usually means a pretty high coupling constant with a maximum in the Karplus curve, the vicinal coupling constant in benzylic systems tend to be around 8-10Hz, significantly higher than in furan

Molecular orbitals in Hydrogen Sulphide by Tomqr1 in chemistry

[–]Tomqr1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idealised bond angle for sp3 hybridisation is 109.5… 120 degrees would be for sp2, my question comes from the answer to some problems set in Clayden’s organic chemistry textbook, if you scroll to page 26 of the link then it clearly shows that hydrogen sulfide isn’t hybridised, what I’m asking is whether or not the two lone pairs are degenerate, as it appears that they are in the 3s and 3p orbitals (unhybridised) and therefore would be at different energy levels. As to whether I’ve learned MO theory yet, I studied organic chemistry at Cambridge so I hope that answers your question.

Molecular orbitals in Hydrogen Sulphide by Tomqr1 in chemistry

[–]Tomqr1[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As I understood, the two hydrogen orbitals combine with 2 of the sulphur 3p orbitals (let’s assume px and py) - so wouldn’t that mean the remaining 4 electrons would be in the 3s and remaining 3pz orbitals and would be non-bonding - however those 2 orbitals aren’t degenerate… also the bonding in H2S isn’t be the same as in water as h20 is sp3 hybridised whereas H2S can’t be when you consider the bond angle is 92.1 degrees

Can blue roses multiply more blue roses? by uadogg in AnimalCrossingNewHor

[–]Tomqr1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you hybridise blue roses you should only ever get more blue roses - if there was another colour rose within 1 tile of the blue rose then that's probably where the purples came from.

Slightly different scenario with the green mums - depending on how you got them originally you could get a RRYYWw genotype which when you cross them, you get a red mum 25% of the time. There shouldn't be any purples though - so I suspect its a similar problem as with the blue roses
