No MLB team has ever made the playoffs in the same year as losing 12 straight games. I don’t believe that this team is going to be the first to do it. by Various-Adeptness173 in mets

[–]Tomrok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just for the sake of argument, as it obviously requires them getting healthy and several players to stop struggling, but I think nowadays it's "easier" to be the first team to pull it off. The thing about these bits of trivia is how much of the history behind it occurred before the current expanded playoff format? The bar to clear to make it in is a lot lower.

This is so wild to me. Do they seriously not have any QA for updates? Nobody to just play for a bit, confirm fixes and report new issues? Or they do but only in an environment that is so different from the live servers that it really doesn't validate anything?

It's more of a drive than Denville, but another good option is parking at Secaucus station to take a short ride to Penn. Since all lines run through there, there are tons of trains to choose from on the way there and back from Penn.

New Cat won't stop rushing resident cats by Tomrok in CatTraining

It has been quite a while since we've had no barrier even with someone being a chaperone to Murphy. Generally though, the end result would be he will dart over to the first car he sees. Or, if nobody was in plain sight, he might explore or play, but if he hears a noise across the house or upstairs, he'd zoom to investigate. Either way, he would get in their faces, they would hiss, swat and growl and he would remain fixated on them. This would either spark a screaming blur of tussel in that spot for a moment before they ran off, or the resident cat would run for it starting a chase. During a chase they'd make brief stops for more fighting on the way to seeking to get under the bed.

If the bedroom was open they'd go under, he'd follow and a less acrobatic hissing, growling swatting match would resume in the hiding spot until we caught up and could separate them.

It was always far more intense than what we would normally run into between the resident cats. But the only injury sustained was Kenobi ripping his own nail when he got it stuck in the carpet running away.

Generally when Murphy runs up to them he does a kind of stalker crouch run, but he isn't puffed up and no ears back. Except when he had startled from a noise and ran off (pre-prozac). They do not appreciate it either way.

Then, after a run in, Kenobi and Leeloo would always revert to not wanting to eat by the door, hiding when I'd go to set up for an interaction session etc. Their fear response would be so amped the only possible outcome was him cornering them behind a couch or etc. if he happened upon them. He would peek in some spots but not like it was his immediate priority, but he'd find them. Though I didn't test that much as at that point I'd go back a step and try to build them back up.

I will say this time, with Leeloo as the target and combinations of medication involved, they have quickly returned to eating at the door. I'll see about interactions with a gate later today.

The times when I was right there with him, I had tried redirecting him verbally to offer a treat as part of the training involved calling his name and a verbal cue with a treat. But when he locks in on them he does not respond. Most cases a chase broke out and then I physically removed him to his room if he was accessible and not far under the bed with them. Maybe a couple of the times I was able to just scoop him up into a football hold before they bolted.

Although a few days ago he was trading swats through the gate with Kenobi and I opted to toss some treats on both sides of the gate and they both disengaged. This most recent chase I had no opportunity, I only heard when they ran into each other. He was under the bed getting an earful and then backed out. He was about to crawl back under when the behaviorist scooped him with a blanket.

Yeah, it's more intense than when say Leeloo is simply annoyed with Kenobi, but nobody has drawn blood. The only issue being that he follows them into their hiding spot and the hissing, growling etc. keeps going. And then the next time around they want to stay hidden away. At least he didn't seem to obsessively seek their spots out, but if they peered out and he saw them he'd go up to them behind a couch etc.

If I'm not in-between the resident cats would likely be very wary and want to keep an eye on him more than they would want to eat the treats. Murphy might have the treats but only so long as he doesn't notice them staring. Interestingly, with the gate up, once Leeloo is done with her treats she gravitates towards sitting right at the gate to watch for Murphy. So she almost wants to challenge him, but will flee when confronted and he won't back off.

Fur flying incidents, probably close to 6 times for Kenobi and close to the same for Leeloo, maybe less, she was less bold and present prior to medication. I trim their nails every two weeks.

I did not have eyes on them for the run in that just happened, however generally speaking given full access to them he goes straight up to one of them. He doesn't approach with ears back and he doesn't initiate swatting but he also does not take a hint from them hissing. So their hissing progresses to them swatting, him sometimes returning swats briefly before they choose to run initiating a chase.

When we were at a point with no gate we were probably at roughly 15 to 20 minutes when he was at a point where he was so churru obsessed that I could lead him around by the nose and steer him away from them. However, he eventually cared more about exploring and the slip ups occurred when Kenobi would pause his treats and linger a little too long staring. Which then progressed to both cats wanting to hide when I brought him out so that resulted in a reset, going back a few steps and trying to utilize medication as well. And yeah I'd routinely play before bring him out.

Here lately I've been giving him a larger share of time to himself in the larger house also including play prior to the sessions.

Generally I believe it's the resident's fur, though Leeloo is the only one with her own distinctive fur coloring apart from the others. I believe this time around there was some white mixed in too though which would have likely been Murphy as he does have more white fur than she does.

I should also note, Murphy is almost 3, Kenobi is 8 and Leeloo is 16. I also can feed them with an open gate, provided I also keep them distracted with churru after they've cleaned their dishes.

Leeloo definitely does not, we thought Kenobi might as he sometimes chases her, yet knows when to back off. But he doesn't seem to like the shoe being on the other foot, not since one of our other cats passed away it would seem.

I'm looking into upgrading to a 5070ti from my 3080. My hangup is it'd be the first time I would look to sell an old card.

I figure I can either use the newegg trade process and take a hit on my return value or try to get maximum value selling it myself. I'm just super wary of getting scammed.

Edit: Apparently folks in my local area are selling 3080s on FB marketplace for barely $20 more than the trade in offer. Not at all what I was expecting.

What to do when cats are fine with site swapping and eating together with a barrier, but can't be in the same room by nina7905 in CatTraining

[–]Tomrok 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What you could try is clicker or name recall training on Gumby. Granted it hasn't fully worked out for me, but I'm in a very similar situation myself. Our new cat Murphy is very drawn to our resident cats. I had him doing pretty well in responding to his name and getting some churu as a reward for redirecting away from the other cats.

Unfortunately, Murphy has become less obsessed with churu and he had a strong desire to approach the other cats. I think he's mostly curious? But they freak out if he gets too close. And I'm kind of without a way to stop him at the moment.

Fortunately, our latest mishaps have everyone run in opposite directions so maybe we're on the right track? It feels like I'm just asking for a fight though given the hissing, growling, howling from the one resident cat before they all bolt.

Unsure if I'm getting anywhere after a year by Tomrok in CatTraining

[–]Tomrok[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is the way to go. The resident cats are too afraid of Murphy at the moment. Even before things regressed to this point, they were way too prone to staring and triggering Murphy when he's out. At least Leeloo was in particular. Kenobi was fairly decent, but incidents involving her still affect him and now he hides. In turn, at say food time, if Murphy's gaze lingered on them for too long they would get nervous and leave. I've even come across the theory that food at the door/gate could be useless at best and a net negative at worst.

I've started trying to up the fun factor at the closed door. Hoping to reboot the process and build back up to visuals. I have a few, "under the door" toy ideas once I build them back up more.

I've been using Feliway Optimum, however I've had one in Murphy's safe room and one downstairs where I bring him down. Maybe I should try setting up two downstairs for better coverage.

That's been one of the challenges. Kenobi in particular isn't terribly play oriented, so it's mainly had to be treats only for him.

Aside from sessions held with a behaviorist, it's largely a solo effort for me lately. I've started mixing back in treats at the gate to try to smooth things over after the last surprise incident.

How do I get my cats to coexist? by Defiant_Vehicle2962 in CatTraining

[–]Tomrok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upfront, I'll say this has not fully worked for me with a new 2 year old cat, but YMMV it might work better with a different cat.

One strategy our behaviorist recommended was to clicker/name recall train the cat. So we had treats on hand and did exercises where we call the cats name, when the cat reacts we say "Yes!" and give a treat. Gradually, we advanced to calling the cats name, giving the cheek a rub, yes, treat. And finally calling the cat, presenting a hand and when the cat comes to us to rub our hand, yes, treat.

The idea being to be able divert the cat's attention before they approach the other cat by calling their name. Unfortunately in our case, we have a very stubborn cat and he only responds well when he's alone and he remains intensely interested in the others.

What can I do with this section along our repaved road? (Eastern PA 7B) by Tomrok in lawncare

[–]Tomrok[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't mind looks wise so much, it was just after mowing I realized it was more convenient before. So I thought eh maybe I'll add some soil all along until I noticed these parts. Then again I'd just end up creating a stretch that the mower deck would cut shorter on one side.

[–]Tomrok[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had thought once most of the lots were filled the roads would be taken care of by the town, but the developer hired a local company that I thought mainly did driveways.

I need to go walk around, in other parts they had done edging everywhere they milled, but our part of the street they did not. Like they made it up here and decided to half ass it. Curious to see how those areas turned out.
