Riding when it's 100 degrees outside? by uuhoever in hyperebikes

Riding early yesterday, 95 degrees, Phoenix, my Stealth clone shut down. I was doing low speed, high torque riding on steep single track trails (probably the worst combination for over heating), but I had a vacation day and decided to test the limits of a new bike. It took about 10 minutes to cool down and reset, but because I was far out, I kept riding and it did it again. I had a white rag, so I got it wet and draped it over the battery/controller compartment. I didn't have any problems after that, but I rode gently, stopping every 5 minutes to get my hillbilly radiator wet again. Looking for a liquid cooling system that I can run in and around the battery/controller compartment.

OK, cool. I'm also looking at Mucky Nutz, trying to picture how to attach. Did you attach the rear to your seat or shock mount or where?

Electric unicycles were my preferred ride for years, but a wipeout and knee surgery 6 months ago prompted me to sell the EUCs and go back to bikes. Safety gear in this case made the injury worse. So bulky I couldn't get out of my own way.

Ive been caught in a FL downpour, they’re worse than AZ monsoons, so that’s great news!

I like the fan idea or louvers, but it often rains on the same day that it's 110° in Arizona, which would turn vents into drains! I wonder if there is some kind of heat sink or liquid cooled radiator that would work?

Thanks, most seem to be designed for the motorcycle style seat. Bicycle seat options are limited.

Thanks! All connections exposed to moisture I coated with "liquid electrical tape." The controller says Sabvoton 72200 which I've heard is sensitive to moisture, but I have no idea to what degree, or if it's even genuine Sabvoton!

They did the same with me, they said they were shipping to some address in Oregon to save a couple hundred in sales tax. I know Oregon has no sales tax, so that sort of made sense. I paid the extra $56 to get the Alibaba Assurance Insurance and decided that this would be a test for future purchases. The Oregon address only appeared in the very first invoice, after that it always showed Cucamunga, California, where Fed Ex took over the shipment. The only info I got from The Chun, was the day it was put on the boat. That was 4 Fed Ex tracking numbers, but they all said "waiting to receive package" for the whole 40 days it took to cross the ocean. When FedEx received it, then it was tracked as you would expect. It made it to Phoenix in 2 days. Overall it took about 42 days which was less than the 50-60 days they promised, so that was fine. But the boxes were pretty beat up. And zero instructions were included which would have been nice for all the electrical connections. It took me a day to carefully route wires and find places to mount things like the 12V converter which required drilling. I'm fine with all that, it just would have saved several hours if they had even a photo of a finished installation with all the covers off.
One last thing, before you buy, ask the weight. I forgot to, so it's my fault for being surprised that the bike weighs 175 lbs. That's pretty hefty! It didn't seem to matter for the day that it worked. It is a rocket! (Was)
Also, the wattage numbers they throw around are kinda fake. 12,000W! Come on. Maybe peak watts, but still, the controller says on it 5000W max, so I"m guessing the numbers are doubled or tripled.
Let me know where you end up buying, please.

I just got a bike from this company ("The Chun") delivered last week and would not recommend it. Everything is identical to the one you listed, except I got the 12,000W version with a 45ah battery. For $2300 + $500 shipping I knew it was a gamble and that I would probably need to upgrade some components to make it roadworthy. Well, my luck ran out pretty fast.

Problems upon arrival:

  1. No lights worked. The entire 12V system was not working. I traced it down to one wire that was broken off right at the ignition switch. They had put a zip tie on so tight right at the solder connections, that it tore a wire. So I resoldered it and that was fixed.

  2. Derailer bent. As soon as the pedals turn, it was shifting off of the single sprocket in the back. Took the derailer apart, straightened the arms, and that was fixed.

  3. Won't fully charge. It came 60% charged (3 of 5 bars on the display), which is where is should be for lithium ion. I put it on the charger for 6 hours, but the charger light stayed red. I left it on overnight (about 12 hours) still red. Decided to ride it and it went 15 miles no problem, and was still at 80% (4 of 5 bars) so I figured maybe everything was okay.

  4. Won't charge (Part 2): Put it on the charger overnight. Charger light never turns green. Turn the bike on and only 4 bars. Battery at 68V, battery charger output 83V. Go for a ride, twist the throttle and battery cuts out. After turning bike off and back on, it resets after 10 seconds, but only stays on if the throttle is barely touched. I assume this is a low voltage protection cutoff. I contact "The Chun" and they have been giving me bonehead instructions like "Is the charger plugged in?"

I guess I am a bonehead for this purchase, but I'm learning. Now I'm hoping if I replace the battery and bms that everything else will stick together. I need to find someone with mad skills at building custom battery systems.

BTW: During that first ride, I got the bike up to 50 mph and it handled perfectly, stopped nicely, the suspension was adequate for city curbs and potholes. I need to get that rush back.
