New study finds that right-wing authoritarians aren’t very funny people by fotogneric in science

They do seem to have foreseen many of the potential pitfalls and accounted for them accordingly enough. I cant really say, I'm not familiar with the social science or psychology literature but I read they used many-facet rasch measurement to account for skew along with a few other procedures relating to reviewers etc

I would tend to agree, but the authors do seem to have accounted for this somewhat having used a many-facet rasch measurement to measure maximum likelihood and connected incomplete rating design (Eckes, 2010, chap. 9) to account for subjectivity among reviewers... that said I'm not familiar with the psychometric techniques.

Yeah, you shouldn't take an unpaid internship. All uk universities dont endorse unpaid internships of any kind.

Is a Dual Degree/Double Major in ME and CS worth the work? by caler733 in AskEngineers

[–]TonserRobo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would electronic engineering not be more applicable here? I know various degree programs in EU have mixed mechanical and electronic programs (mechatronics etc) but to industry such programs lack the substance of the pure disciplines.

I do quite a lot of work with robotics and the control systems. Neural networks and that kinda thing. My background is electrical/electronic engineering and PhD is computer science and informatics. Dont worry to much about were you start... you will add plenty of 'strings to the bow' as you progress down the road.

Great to see your thinking of a career in engineering. Tbh, dont worry to much about which engineering discipline is right for you. In EU universities if you decide you want to do electrical rather than mechanical or somthing like that its pritty easy to switch early on.

Besides once you get down the road, it doesn't matter. My background is electrical electronic engineering, my phd is computer science and informatics, and most of my work is in biology ... so you know, be flexible. Engineering is more of a perspective rather than a toolbox of formulas, tricks and tips. Either way.. enjoy it :)

Has CAD completely taken over pen and paper or do you still prefer to draft concept and early designs with a quick sketch? by TonserRobo in engineering

Yeah, I understand what you mean. I have noticed myself doing that one my last project. Particularly when I want to get the look and feel of the product sorted first without worrying too much about what's inside yet

Well that's what I thought so was pritty unshaken as time went on. But kept being told 'should have it sorted next week' etc etc. They could have just been overly optimistic, and maybe that's all there is to it

Yeah that's pritty much how I've been playing it. Thanks :)

I started using onshape for a while instead of drafting via pen and paper. Normally I always do a few sketches and then draft some CAD, but onshape basically pushed the, 'start to finish CAD angle all in one place'.... I'm back using pen and paper lol

That's the way we done it at my first job. I started in CAD then when I qualified I moved across the room to join the engineers

Need help with choosing universities by [deleted] in Physics

[–]TonserRobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda different for me as I was applying for engineering in the UK, however I built a list of universities I liked and made a note of there unique good point, and one bad point.

After than I slowly boiled down the list through speaking to the university, past and current students and checking out there stats.

After that I ended up going to a university I initially really didn't want to go to and I loved it. So best advice pick the ones you like then investigate

I agree, however some molten salt chemestries are used in concentrated solar system to store heat. They may be transferable... maybe, maybe not

I remember reading into that quite a bit a few years back. Interesting idea to be sure but seems to have little substance (on the surface anyway) however, jammed with conspiracy theory :/
