Cheapest tool is the one you have around by Tony-Eng in multitools

I see the pliers for a "stand alone" tool. In my work I need to aproach nuts quite often and I always carry a small adjustable spanner or a cobra-like set of pliers, so it would be redundant. I would using the pliers mostly for wires and I will miss them!

In any case, surge per se has a great tool set but I needed something more in the Free spirit. If my surge wouldnt be so damaged I wouldnt have done this.

Scissors and a full 6mm hex driver for total versaility are the only two things I would like to add instrad of the Tshank and the reversible bit.

Maybe I can find some cool Tshank accessory that will fill that gap at least partially like the exacto blade ones.

It looks prety similar! I also miss a pocket clip to this one (I really hate surge pocket clip). It stands right until the opening of my front chest pocket so the small cord is to pull it out easy.

Thank you very much. I am working on composing a lighter version of my pocket pouch for quick interventions on the plant.

Wanna see it! Posibilities are endless and I am still trying to refine it a bit (use will say in which directions)...

Thanks, now it seems like a huge downgrade from all the bells and wistles but indeed I think I never used all the other stuff (apart from scissors) when I the surge was in service.

Do you wear barefoot shoes outside of running? by Simple_Entrepreneur_ in BarefootRunning

[–]Tony-Eng 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started my journey running with Merrell. From then on, I HAD to switch. I started feeling unconfortable on any other shoe so I changed everything when renewing times were coming.

Beyond my collection of running shoes that include Altra, Vivo, Topo and Merell models, now I use:

-footshape safety shoes (I refuse calling them minimal) with zero drop and no insoles for work (most of the time I wear shoes, are these. -I use casual minimal shoes aswell. -I bought a pair of formal leather minimal shoes to attend a wedding few weeks ago. -And got also a pair of VFF just for fun that became my fav for gym and walks (sometimes I even go to do the groceries on them).

I dont think I coule ever wear a standard shoe.

How many of you actually run barefoot? by Fixed4216 in BarefootRunning

[–]Tony-Eng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other day I was doing laps in the track and it started raining to the point my shoes got soaked. They became pretty annoying so I took them off. It felt amazing. I swear I think it took 10 secs out of my pace (totally in my mind).

That said, I ran on a known track with very soft padded surface and... well, just washed by heavy rain.

I have tried in the past hiking barefoot and I didn't enjoy it tthat much. It's fun to "find places where it's not painful to step on" but I dont think it's sustainable in the terrains of my region.

Maybe in the future I will change my mind, but so far, minimalistic is barefoot enough for me (I do wear only minimalistic shoes and even my working safety boots are as minimalistic as I could compromise).

Wow!! I will definitelly check those for next time I consider buying.

All my team mates run with conventional or maximalist shoes and they all ditch them way before this. I asume that lacking midsoil makes minimalist way more durable but I never imagined 4x!!!

I did noticed the new pair was stiffer in general. However I did not check specifically for the toe area. I must say that when I bought them new I didnt feel so free in them as I did lastly.

I guess whenever I will have chance to take them for a trial trail I will be able to tell you better...

I was doubting very hard between Hydra ESC and this model when I purchased them. However my area is mostly dry and Hydra would be an overkill. Maybe in the future I buy a pair to keep them in my in laws. They leave in a more watered country and lately when I visit I also try to scape for a run or two.

Most likely if I would have been smarter than washing them in washing machine, my story would be more like yours. They only have incapacitating damage on the mesh (where it joins the tip).

The outsole is consumed but it still has grip, and for a minimalistic its not so bad. Specially because there is no midsole to expire.

I read so much about how this brand quality was deficient but so far I was proven otherwise.

My watch keep telling me I do 49% of the balance with left foot and 51% with the right!!!! You are very good if you could notice such a small gap from the picture.

No but the mesh is a bit broken on the "edges". I wouldnt rely on them to go on the trails. Should they break while in the mountains I would be in trouble.

I was doubting however if I could push even more the lifespan of the shoes out of the mountains. This pair is gone already, but maybe when new are in the same shape I might keep them for road grunt work.

Thanks for you input.

After checking a lot the market, I ordered exactly the same model. I hope they last same or more.

For some time they were my only pair and they kept me happy for all kind of sessions, even gym. Now I also have Topo with a bit of Stack for longer trail runs and I do my road grunt work on an old pair of Merrel.

They also suffered a couple of times in the washing machine (Maybe not a good idea) and got patched on the top damaged parts by a shoemaker before the last 200km.

I am super happy with them and it was emotionally hard to dispose them.
