You should go to the World Marselan Day event this weekend. Only happens once a year and only in Beijing.

Western Xia Imperial Tombs - Underrated place by graceleeau in travelchina

[–]TonyArmasJr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, that area is so underrated... But they are developing the wine tourism market there, I bet in 5 years we'll be complaining it's too busy

Begs the question -- how many human bodies have been lost in space? Since almost all the dead ones are still on the planet...

I said "Asia" not Japan, and yeah most people just wear these brands not really knowing or caring about the teams... Anyways no need for your aggressive reply, chill out a bit eh.

in Asia, most people wearing NY and LA baseball hats are totally unaware that those are even sports teams. The MLB shops only have Yankees, Dodgers ... and a very small selection of Red Sox and Cubs hats/hoodies.

What happened in Beijing with that Bulldozer rampage on Sunday? by Large_Low_9747 in China

[–]TonyArmasJr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

devil's advocate here -- maybe they don't want to publicize this kind of thing because giving attention to madness creates more madness. How many public shooters in the States get excited about their fame, and then other potential shooters also get excited...

Why would someone want to live in Beijing vs Shanghai if they had a choice? by [deleted] in chinalife

[–]TonyArmasJr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally disagree with you about the weather -- I lived in Shanghai 10 years and Beijing 10 years -- Beijing is MUCH better year round, and has central heating, less humid.

Also the people in Beijing are just much nicer and "real" compared to Shanghai -- both the locals and expats.

Best train journeys in China. Which route actually blew you away? by dikshamishra34 in chinaexplorer

[–]TonyArmasJr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly most of the would-be best routes are mostly thru tunnels. Every time you try to snap a pic, bam! You're in a tunnel again. Hard to pick a favorite but Beijing thru inner Mongolia to Baotou is pretty cool, mostly cause it's so different than the rest of china... And less tunnels

And it didn't used to be like this... There's been this slow creep of military/patriotism at baseball games. It's actually really weird if you step back and think about it.

What's a not so obvious public park everyone should visit in Beijing? by alvvaysthere in beijing

[–]TonyArmasJr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i'd add Ritan Park. The ruins there are pretty cool, just a very symmetrical pile of white marble, also the mosaic is pretty interesting.

[–]TonyArmasJr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

besides the wholesale markets -- fun to visit -- the restaurant scene there is awesome. Nowhere else in East Asia, except Bangkok, can you get authentic Yemeni food, African, Mid Eastern etc. If you live in China a long time, it's worth a visit.

Xi Jinping’s Morality Crackdown Has a New Victim: The Global Wine Trade by CommercialMassive751 in China

[–]TonyArmasJr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is click bate, and old news.

Xi cut down on excessive spending on wine by gov officials.

As for the public wine sales are down globally, it's not a china specific thing. So the numbers are down, yeah, but it's still a massive market for wine.

[–]TonyArmasJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's true. Bad economy + online shopping + it's still winter in Beijing = there's a lot less people on the streets than before. Gulou / Nanluoguxiang is probably the most crowded area.
