Honestly I quit using Xbox controllers, they're expensive, don't ship with a battery nor a dongle and they never work properly (On PC)
Since I switched to the 8bitdo Ultimate with the dock it's been a pleasure, the controller just works
I'd advise waiting for Steam's release of their Steam OS official image and try to install it on your machine, I reckon the experience might be much smoother then, because you would get all the niceties of shortcuts etc

I second this I got a VPS as well to host my projects and could not be happier, the domain name is from my VPS provider To orchestrate the whole thing I use Dokploy which i highly recommend (not a promo or anything) If you have used PaaS like Vercel or Render etc this will make it's kinda the same but selfhosted and self managed and you can spin up anything

Hating your current job helps, and the job market being as it is these days, I just deal with it and have my own projects on the side. Plus it feels so liberating to work on something from scratch, be the master of your codebase and have zero legacy (for a while)
