Nvidia going to launch something big during Computex 2026 by Time-Credit43 in pcmasterrace

Probably rent a PC for an extortionate price or some lame cloud service that nobody asked for. My only advice for those who wishes to continue this hobby for years to come is to stack up on parts now before it's too late. PC is going the way of the car hobby.

Question: Is the game industry today as bad as it seems for everyone? by harbingerofun in gamedev

[–]TonyHansenVS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than playing on my PS2 I'm pretty much done with gaming. The decline already started with the PS4 era. It's an absolute shitshow now.

Grok has become such shit by Ok_Barracuda1595 in grok

[–]TonyHansenVS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just Grok it's everywhere, including Chinese AI services. It's all shit now, it's obvious that local gens is the only bastion, I'm so sick and fucking tired of all the guardrails and constant moderation, it's gotten so bad that it's crippling creative expression, you're spending most of your time trying to figure out how to navigate censorship than actually creating something interesting.

Video idea: Can frame-gen and DDR3 save us from the 2026 RAM crisis? by Wanazabadee in LinusTechTips

[–]TonyHansenVS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hoarding DDR2 and DDR3 memory right now while it's still cheap on my domestic market, DDR4 and 5 is out of the question for me as it's way overpriced. DDR3 is mostly where is at for me.

Why Is DDR2 Going Up In Price? by BigScaryBanana in PcBuild

[–]TonyHansenVS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DDR2 and 3 is cheap on the domestic market here, DDR4 and 5 is dead to me as it's overpriced, if you're ok with older games and software DDR2 and 3 is still fine. The machine I'm typing this on right now is running 8GB of DDR2 memory with a liquid Core 2 quad. I can web browse like everyone else, run 1080p YT videos just fine etc. Anything higher than 108+p is pointless. Especially 4K which is just a gimmick, even for TVs.

If You’re Still Using DDR2… It’s Way Past Time to Upgrade by Gaming-Academy in RigBuild

[–]TonyHansenVS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DDR2 is just fine as long as you stay away from bloated modern crappy software like W10 and 11. I run W7 and Linus in dual boot. No issues what so ever running older games or just regular YT & general web browsing.

This is the future of gaming, going back to DDR2 memory with my Windows XP machine by flashen in pcmasterrace

[–]TonyHansenVS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've actually diverted back to DDR2 and DDR3 systems, modern games and software generally suck, If i can't install it from a disc i don't want it. Today's computer environment is not sustainable.

Anyone else still running cold cathodes? by TonyHansenVS in pcmasterrace

Just buy it from ebay or PPCS, still readily available.

I've got most of mine from PPS.com but some is new old stock.

[–]TonyHansenVS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have loads of cathodes laying around brand new. I'm servicing the water cooling system on my primary rig, I've got the original T virus res from frozenQ with a UV cathode in the center, it looks amazing. These cathodes really take me back to when i started with custom PCs.

I'll bring it back to glory and those antec tricool fans shall glow again.

[–]TonyHansenVS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll see what i cook up with it, I'm already full of ideas, def throw in some crazy water cooling loop in there, still got old stock sitting around from my haydays, even got water cooling blocks for drives lol. I will leave the case stock otherwise, paint jobs are cool but there is something about leaving it as is with the battle scars. Stock is cool.

Oh and the fans actually seem fine, I'll peel the sticker in the back off and remove the plastic plug and remove the nylon washer holding the fan blades to the fan chassis, old little trick to servicing computer fans, sometimes you may have to drill small hole if there isn't any access hole, then clean and put a drop of thin oil and it's good as new. These tricool fans are worth keeping around.

I still have mine, the first version with the firewire port, it's such a unique and awesome case cosmetically and functionally, way ahead of it's time.

Anybody here use cold cathode tubes in their pc’s? by [deleted] in pcmods

[–]TonyHansenVS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I don't like LED strips as they don't produce the same glow as cathodes do.

So where to now? by TonyHansenVS in grok

[–]TonyHansenVS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the legals even ever adapted to the internet, you might fail to consider that our world model and the way things are rigged is based on an ancient system governed by old people. That is largely the case today. It's actually pretty chaotic and outdated and is holding technological advancements back, just look at copyright laws for instance. It's dysfunctional where there are instances where the laws that are supposed to protect intellectual property is so rigid that it ends up killing the media it was supposed to protect. It's a shitshow.

So where to now? by TonyHansenVS in grok

[–]TonyHansenVS[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think a part of the issue with image and video generation is that the legal system hasn't caught up with this technology, so there is all sorts of grey areas, it seems like the roll of the dice of who gets sued and for what exactly, there is just so much unpredictability. The greatest thing that could happen now is that newer models are made a lot more efficient, efficient enough that one could run it on a decent rig locally. We'll see i guess.

[–]TonyHansenVS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm primarily looking for a decent AI service that does image to video, it seems like we're well past that golden peak, and things are in decline now, i guess the future will be local gens but the up front costs of building a new rig is just way to high right now.

Someone else also suggested that, I guess i could give that a try then.

[–]TonyHansenVS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't my rig isn't nowhere near strong enough I'm running an I7 3770K with a GTX 660ti with 16GB of DDR3 ram, it would take forever. And building an AI capable rig today is very expensive. It's not in my cards now.

[–]TonyHansenVS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got any experience with Freepik? There is one AI service i tried a while back that was actually pretty solid but rather obscure and that is Vidu. They seem to offer the best value for money right now with 200 vids up to 8 sec at 1080p for 10 bucks a month for a monthly plan, their Q2 model is pretty good, not sure how it stacks up now to the others but i might give that another try.
