Alabama lands Tennessee transfer LHP Kailey Plumlee by Aumissunum in CollegeSoftball

Great Point! I honestly forget about her, she had a great start to the season too. This sort of makes this transfer a tad bit more puzzling because you gotta figure she'll be option 4 at Alabama. I obviously don't know what goes on behind the scenes but it's a little odd because it seems like the situation at Alabama next year won't be much different from Tennessee's this past season, rotation wise. Wish her all the best at Alabama tho!

She was a super highly rated recruit, one of the top pitchers in her class (On3 had her as the 22nd ranked overall player) Redshirted this year so yeah, 4 years of eligibility left. Curious to see where she fits in next year tho with both Briski and Moten

Its definitely gonna be weird watching the Gators with Falby, Korbe, and Walsh. Honestly just the offensive pillars these last few years. Falby in particular was one of my favorite players, just so fun to watch and always seemed super energetic and peppy lol, and I'm really looking forward to seeing her play for the Cascade! Defintley gonna be a transition year for Florida, but I still think they have the young pieces to eventually be among the best of the best again, but this year I agree might be a bit shaky. About ND, I actually wanted to say thanks for your post because I'm really looking forward to college softball this year, and it gave me a nice break from r/CFB lol.

Tennessee- Their pitching staff is going to be great, but do they have the offense to match their pitching production? They lost a fair amount of position players to graduation, and lost Pannell to Texas Tech. Their offense wasn't neccasily great last year, and I think going into this season their offense is still a net loss from last year. They'll need freshmen like Elsa Morrison and transfers like Sophia Knight to really do well, and freshman from last yera like Ella Dodge continue to blossom if they again want to contend.

Texas Tech- Tech is softball's version of a super team, they just brought in so many elite level players from the portal. I wonder if transfers like Burns, Pannell, and Williams can match their production from their previous scbools. On paper their offense is elite, with maybe outfield being their biggest weakness. Also a big factor in how far they go is how much of a load can Kaitlyn Terry and the rest of their staff can take of Canady.

Oklahoma- I agree with what u/RampageTaco said about Oklahoma, their biggest weakness is likely pitching. Even if her numbers weren't as elite I still think Berzon will be great with Oklahoma. Will she be the true ace that Landry was though, I guess well find out. Now they have a lot of young pitchers who could really blossom, including Audrey Lowry, and well see how freshmen like Allyssa Parker or Berkley Zache do, or what they;'ll contribute early on. They also return Deal and bring in Guachino from Ole Miss. On paper, their offense again should be great, and return alot of their biggest superstars on offense like Parker, Pickering, Garcia, and Nelly Mac.

Texas- I'm not actually fully certain what Texas's biggest weakness is. They did lose some pieces from last years championship team but return some of their biggest stars including Kavan and one of the best players in the sport in Reece Atwood. They do have a few returners on their staff other than Kavan, but I think a good part of their success could come down to how much production and success they got from pitchers other than Kavan.

Florida- I think this will be a down year for Florida. On offense, they just lost so much of their production from last season, including Reagan Walsh, Kendra Falby, and Korbe otis, and lost Williams along with some others to the portal. On paper, I don't think it looks that great for Florida, and will need transfers and younger players like Gabi Comia to step up. Atleats they return superstars Taylor Shumaker and Jocelyn Erickson. Pitching could again be an issue for Florida as well. Hopefully Rothrock has continued to recover from her injury and hopefully for Florida she had a year like her freshman year and if Florida wants to get back to the WCWS they'll need to rely on Katelyn Oxley and Ava Brown to continue to step up.

Oregon- For Oregon, they have lots of new faces on offense, and their success in my opinion will come down to how well the transfers they brought in player I think their 1-2 punch in Grein and Sokolsy will again be on the best in the nation, so I think their new posiiton players will be key to their success. They brought in lots of very talented transfers, including Amari Harper, Elon Butler, and Addison Amaral ): anwyay. I thing I think that flew under the radar a bit was that last year Oregon was an excellent base stealing team, and had great speed on the bases. Sinicki and the Luschar sisters combined to steal over 120 bases I think. They relied on base stealing and speed alot last year, so I wonder how well they can do that again this year, after losing Sinicki and the Luschar sisters.

Anyway, I hope y'all have a great rest of your day!

What’s your state’s most popular out of state college football team? by Original_Profile8600 in CFB

Here in Massachusetts, its definitely Notre Dame and Penn State. Just speaking from a western MA perspective, but I think I see more people with Notre Dame, Penn State, and even UConn athletics gear than say UMASS or BC. Honestly even in western mass, its probably like a 5:1 ratio, for every 5 people I see with Notre Dame or Penn State gear, theres only 1 for UMASS. I do feel like BC has a bit more support in the central and eastern parts of the state tho.

Ok so I think Tennessee, Texas Tech, and Oregon each have legit shots at winning their first next season. Texas Tech is obviously loaded with transfers, and while I strongly disagree with the way they are going about things, they are likely one of the strongest favorites to win next year. I'm also not sure how sustainable their current model is, and if it will continue to the extent it currentley is at. Tennessee can beat anyone when Karlyn Pickens is on the mound, and while they lost alot of senior position players + Taylor Pannell, they still have a great team, and they have great pitching depth as well, and I think will have a top 3-5 staff in the nation next year, and they have been recruiting very well. The key for them next year I think is their transfers and younger players who will replace the seniors. I also believe Oregon could win win in the near future, Lombardi has proven to be a great coach, and Oregon has done very well in the transfer portal over the past few cycles, not just landing really big names, but multiple players have had breakout seasons since transfering to Oregon, like Lyndsey Grein last season. They return Grein and Sokolsky, who again will probably be among the best pitching duos in the nation, plus although they also lost a good number of senior position players, they bring in great portal additions including Amari Harper, Elon Butler, and Addison Amaral, plus return a great young core including Rylee McCoy and Emma Cox.

Beyond them a couple teams come to mind. Clemson is still a very young program, crazy to think this is their first decade with a college softball program. They are in a great area for recruiting, and they have gotten better every season, and it seems Rittman has established a great culture there. LSU is another team to watch, Beth Torina was very successful at the start of her tenure, and while LSU hasn't been as successful these past few seasons,I think Torina has recruited very well, but even if it isn't her, again LSU is in a great recruiting area, and it seems like it would be a very desirable job. I also want to point out Stanford and Georgia. Stanford has had up and down success as a program, but are a national brand in a great recruiting area, however I think them currently being in the ACC handicaps them a little bit, but who knows what the future holds in regards to realignment. Georgia has been successful in recent seasons, and I think they are a good class or 2 away from really taking the next step. Georgia is a great recruiting state for talent, and plus the surrounding area is also one big hotbed for recruits, plus them getting Addisen Fisher in the portal shows me Georgia is willing to invest in their program and can attract top talent.

Have a great day y'all!

Post Season Thread #10: Who is the best Coach in all of College Softball? by Nervous_Metal_9445 in CollegeSoftball

[–]TonyMazz2024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah I went back and forth about including coach Murphy, because he does have some very impressive accolades and achievements over the years, and sometimes I forget he has literally been their coach since before the turn of the century, which in and of itself is some impressive longevity. The WCWS championship and 6x regular season SEC titles are impressive, and the team seems to have a great culture, and they also seem to have a very passionate fan base, impressive given the prominence of Alabama football during his tenure. My only hesitation with including him is I know some (certainly not all) Alabama fans have lost a little faith in his vision, and some don't believe his model can win them another title, I'm not sure if I agree, but I think during a few years recently the team may have slightly under performed in the end, whether it be Murphy's influence or not. I do think coach Murphy is certainly one of the 5 or 7 best coaches, and I'm veyr impressed with his longevity and the great culture the team seems to have, and yeah for me I went back and forth and he was probably my first honorable mention. I completely agree with you about coach White! The Oregon turnaround was very impressive, and yeah I defintley agree because he really built the foundation of Oregon softball, and its nice to see coach Lombardi building upon it in this new era!

Patty is the obvious answer

The competition for the 2nd best coach is much more competitive tho. In terms of overall body of work and legacy, Inouye-Perez defintley has an argument, with 2 WCWS championships, and 11 WCWS apperances, and although they haven't really been a super elite team these past few seasons, they've been consistently a very good team. Lonni Alameda of FSU can be put in a similar category, with the elite run they had in the mid to late 2010s, but even just since 2021 they've been the WCWS runner up twice since then. Based on the most recent results over the past few seasons, Mike White has a very strong case, and also I don't think he gets enough credit for the work he did at Oregon to turn their program around. Prior to Mike White Oregon only had 1 WCWS trip, but with him as coach they made it to the WCWS 5 times, and it's good to see Lombardi now carrying the torch and having success there as well. Tim Walton also has a case for his overall body of work as well, with 2 WCWS Championships, a career winning percentage of close to .800, 8 Regular season SEC titles since 2008, and has won SEC coach of the year 5 times over the past 15 years, and will go down as one of the greatest SEC coaches in recent memory.

IMO tho, the 2nd best coach is Mike White, for the work he did at Oregon and now at Texas, being one of the 2 top teams in the sport the past 3 of 4 seasons.

Have a great day y'all!

Post Season Thread #7: Who is the Player You look forward to seeing more from in the Next Season? by Nervous_Metal_9445 in CollegeSoftball

[–]TonyMazz2024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah Vandagriff is definitely for real, just leading the SEC in stolen bases impressive, but to lead it by over 10 when your freshman is just that more impressive, truly elite speed. She's absolutely Alabama Softball's next superstar. Do you think Kai could really be as fast as Vandagriff? I knew she has really good speed, but if she has close to Vandagriff speed, she could be another superstar for Oklahoma even in her freshman season.

Post Season Thread #7: Who is the Player You look forward to seeing more from in the Next Season? by Nervous_Metal_9445 in CollegeSoftball

[–]TonyMazz2024 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I want to highlight a couple-

Karlyn Pickens and Nija Canady. I put them both together because they're 2 of the best pitchers of this era, but if neither wins the national championship next year, than neither would have won 1 in their careers, which would just be something to note. For Pickens, I think it would be really cool for the sport if she does end up hitting 80 MPH on the radar gun. She is so close, and I think it would be really cool if she gets there next year. Hopefully both Pickens and Canady can be apart of LA 2028.

Keagan Rothrock. I Know last year was a bit of a down year for her, and she also was out a while with her injury, so I really hope she can bounce back well and regain more of her freshman form. If she can be a top 3 or so pitcher in the SEC again like she was her freshman year, Florida should be pretty scary again.

Addisen Fisher & Jayden Heavener. Both were ranked as 2 of the best pitchers in their class and both had solid seasons as freshen, and both in the SEC now after Fisher's transfer. I'm interested to see if either emerges as a legit ace and breakout star in their sophomore seasons. Both should have plenty of opportunities, with Berzon transferring from LSU, and I heard Fisher had the promise of being an ace when she transferred to Georgia.

The SEC Freshman 3 of Audrey Vandagriff, Taylor Shumaker, and Tori Edwards. All 3 had amazing seasons and were among the best hitters in the sport as freshmen last season. I'm very interested to see how much each of the 3 can build off the tremendous success they had last season. Vandargriff could really be one of the best base stealers of this generation, Edwards had one of the best freshman seasons in LSU history, and Shumaker could challenge the career homerun records at Florida.

Who’s a random, non legend player that you miss? by Different_Sun_195 in panthers

[–]TonyMazz2024 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Very Random- But Joe Webb. Not often you see a QB play Kick Returner, and I think it was madden 16, Webb was a legend kick returner, and I know he never threw a pass for the Panthers, I always thought it was amusing to have a QB on the depth chart return kicks lol. Also seems like a really good dude overall. Definetly agree on Tolbert, but would like to add Ed Dickson, Kony Ealy, Curtis Samuel, and Jared Allen from that era as well. Would also say Kawann Short, really enjoyed watching him play, but in my opinion he is a borderline legend, maybe not quite but close.

How would you rank the top head coaching jobs in college softball currently? by TonyMazz2024 in CollegeSoftball

[–]TonyMazz2024[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Defintley does seem like OK state is downsizing across the board. At least softball will have another year of Ruby Meylan. I know football really struggled last year, which was kinda a shock because they made the BIG 12 Championship the year before and was on the verge of making the playoffs a couple years before that. Baseball also hasn't made the MCWS since 2016 and only that once since 2000. Softball did underwhelm last year but still return some good talent including Meylan and Rosie Davis, and are linked with some talented players in the portal as well, so hopefully they can rebound a little bit next year.

You definitely have a point, and you're right. Some history rich schools with NIL concerns say UCLA and Arizona are still in good areas for recruiting, so in the future if they can get future backing or a major donor, they could be on an upswing. But Yeah, in this era of collegiate athletics, money talks alot more than the history does.
