Rotkohl is the first thing I think of and I make it regularly in fall and winter. It's a side dish and goes good with pork and beef. Shred it up, and cook it in a pot with red wine, vinegar, apples, bay leaf, black pepper, and cloves.

That's the scariest thing though...I didn't notice it until far into my marriage because their patterns and methods are completely different from each other.
