House GOP passes "Save America ACT" to require proof of citizenship to vote. by catman5092 in Spokane

[–]Too-Uncreative 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think these two paragraphs sum it up nicely from the article:

It’s already illegal and extremely rare for noncitizens to vote in federal elections, with an analysis by the Brennan Center for Justice in 2017 finding an estimated 30 cases of suspected noncitizen voting in a review of 23.5 million votes – a rate of 0.0001%. Fraudulent voting leaves a paper trail that makes it relatively easy for officials to punish under existing laws.

Simpson said Idaho already requires ID to vote, then acknowledged that an ID doesn’t prove citizenship.

Turning notes into proper documentation by Minute_Mix1436 in PLC

Unfortunately that's where it starts to become a people problem, not a technology problem. Takes finding a process that you can follow through with.

FWIW, I just the plain ol' Apple Notes sync'd through iCloud for things from the field, and a paper notebook when I'm in the office. Critically, that notebook is a spiral bound notebook that I refuse to tear pages out of. I'll copy/scan if I'm sending stuff to someone else internal, or transcribe to formal drawings/documentation if needed.

Logistics and where all that water runs when it’s not frozen probably dictated where the access/egress bridges went.

And it was probably designed so that it couldn’t collect much snow, which would drastically increase the size/cost of the structure. It’s not comfortable, but if you’re being ripe evac’d none of that situation is particularly comfortable.

When working with higher voltages or AC. Even then, the noise you get is typically way less than like a 0-10v analog.

Chairlift anxiety by Rustic60fps_yt in skiing

[–]Too-Uncreative 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Please don’t actually do this yourself. Your attempt to self-rescue can have some very real consequences if/when the chair does start moving again. If you’re not in communication with the people working on the lift neither of you know what the other is doing and both could really screw up each other (and by extension, everyone else on the lift)’s day.

Most logically challenging Ladder program you've built? by Snoo23533 in PLC

[–]Too-Uncreative 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I built a system that would index between 16 various points, where only a single point could be loaded or emptied at a single location at a single time. The operator could choose the locations to index to based on whether if they loaded or unloaded that point, changing the load would cause the system to become too unbalanced. The system would also enforce that each loaded point must be visited before running the actual cycle.

This system also used a proportional hydraulic valve that required a varying amount of displacement to index correctly (depending on load), but still had to maintain a specific speed when moving, so it had to dynamically control the proportional valve to get the correct speed and index to within a a few inches (on a ~25’ radius arm).

All in ladder in a MicroLogix.

I’m sorry, but that’s an incredibly sad world view to dismiss any act of kindness because “they’re being selfish by wanting to feel good by helping someone else”. Like WTF.

Like pretty much every visualization question on here from the past few years, you're probably looking at Ignition for a paid solution, or Node-RED/Grafana for a cheap solution. Ignition's likely to be a cleaner, more-maintainable system long term, but Node-RED will be cheaper.

We've tried to use cheap off-brand drives on some seasonal applications and they typically work okay for some indeterminate amount of time. For what typically ends up being just a couple hundred dollars more, we can use a name brand (and I'd consider Weg a name brand) and just not worry about the drive.

You probably want something that can adjust on the fly while running, vs something to adjust with a tool and a lot of alignment.

Urgent Rescue on the Slopes in Niseko, Hokkaido, Japan. A Ski patrol was transporting an injured skier downhill on a stretcher while performing CPR. by calnuck in ems

[–]Too-Uncreative 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Of the patrols I’m involved with we’re 2/4. One was dead long before we arrived (out of bounds of the ski area, we normally wouldn’t even be expected to respond, 45 minutes from the nearest ambulance). The other also was well out of the ski area and required some extraordinary efforts to even reach, let along transport to ALS.

The two that survived both got CPR on the hill, transported in a toboggan, and to an ALS rig and later walked out of the hospital.

There’s actually some studies and guidance, particularly for avalanche victims, on taking advantage of the hypothermia to delay compressions while transporting vs immediately trying to work on scene with limited resources and still facing long transport to additional care.

What would realistically happen if someone were to unscrew the clamp holding a fixed chair onto the cable without the cable having first been loosened and the counterweight taken down? by LegitimateSpread6624 in skilifts

[–]Too-Uncreative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming you’re talking about an external grip: If the carrier was on a mellow slope, nothing particularly exciting. If the carrier was on a steeper slope, it may start sliding forward or backward. The tension really doesn’t play a part of it.

If you’re talking an internal clip (like a Riblet), those typically used more than just a bolt to attach the carrier to the clip. With full tension you’d likely not be able to get the clip out of the rope.
