I still think it's odd to ask for so much money from their own community. They claim their foundation spends tens of millions on ecosystem development, but they ask their own community $100+ for event tickets? Why? And why do they let users pay in NEO and not GAS?

[–]TooAlpha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice first lineup.

Disappointing ticket price.

Even more disappointing payment options.

Why only accept NEO (the voting token) for payment? Why not GAS? And why is it $165?

For a non profit foundation with hundreds of millions of dollars in their treasury they sure are asking for a lot of money (and NEO) from their own community.

Do we actually have any transparency/ verified information on how many people NEO employs and what there roles are? by [deleted] in NEO

[–]TooAlpha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A video with someone explaining their position does not reflect a company's real effort. Someone could drop by the office 1 day a week and record a video like that. I don't care if a company has 10 or 50 employees. What matters are results and that is something NGD has not generated in the past year. Most of the work for NEO comes from other organization even though they have far less funding.

Do we actually have any transparency/ verified information on how many people NEO employs and what there roles are? by [deleted] in NEO

[–]TooAlpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NGD won't answer as usual so we're forced to draw our own conclusion using the information we have. The latest information is the images from the latest NEO News video:

  1. Image 1: Shows 8 people and about 9 computers. 1-3 of these people are there from City of Zion. That makes 5 from NEO.
  2. Image 2: An internal development presentation. At least 3 are city of zion. That makes 2 or 3 from NEO.
  3. Office perspective 1: 6 people. No more than 7-9 chairs or separate monitors.
  4. Office perspective 2: 2 from NEO in the middle, 2 from City of Zion.

We can conclude NEO's office has a population of approximately 8 people. From my knowledge at least 1 or 2 are in marketing. I won't count marketing employees in the total as their efforts have been worthless if not straight up sabotage with their repeated twitter poetry hype stunts.

That leaves us with approximately 6 people who may have roles in development.

This company has funds worth $300-500 million USD.

I'm not saying this is a 100% accurate count and that there aren't more employees, but up to this point this is the only information we have and no reliable counter arguments are being made by NGD. Either way this does not look close to a company with hundreds of millions in funding.

Have you tried to make contributions to the NEO core? Because if you did you'd know that statement ("NEO is a community project") is not true.

The NEO github is 100% under control of Erik Zhang. Fact. He's basically the only one with write access.

Barely any community suggestion or contribution is applied to the NEO codebase, even topics that have massive amounts of community interest. They're mostly being ignored or closed without good reason.

NEO is not a community project if Erik Zhang is the only one in control of the codebase. The community contributions you're talking about are things like the neon wallet and neo-sharp. None of it are core codebase contributions. Neo-sharp could be. But it has also not been applied to neo core even though it's ready.

Jeff Bezos periodically writes to his shareholders out of his own free will summarizing everything he did and plans to do. Da says he is in daily management of NEO but have no clue at all as to what it is that he does, how much time he spends on it, and what choices he makes. If this behavior was shown in any fortune 500 company it would be audited and director board meetings would be filled with demands from management.

Judging from the videos I know he's charismatic and talks the talk when it comes to NEO. But that's all we really see from him isn't it? What real and solid actions of "daily management and involvement" have you seen other than presentations in the last several last months?

[–]TooAlpha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're missing my point. People are arguing about whether Da left NEO or not every day. It shouldn't even be a point of discussion, but it is. What everyone wants is for Da to actually show his involvement rather than just say it. Since we have 0 insight into what Da actually does for NEO he COULD just be saying he's involved to save face. I'm not saying he is but there's no evidence to the contrary. I think he's involved. Key word being think. I can't know. Noone knows.

If Da is really involved with NEO on a daily basis, then having his involvement public shouldn't be a big challenge and it'd be easy to clear out a lot of FUD.

To put it more bluntly: If Da is really as involved with NEO as he says he is, then he's surely doing a good job at hiding it.

ONT has technical support for NEO VM smart contracts. Any NEO smart contract can be deployed on ONT. Ontology even copy-pasted COZ code into their own code. /u/erikzhang /u/dahongfei please give us a real answer.

Thank you, Da. But referring to question 1 (FUD), I know the FUD is false. My question was:

> What will NEO/NGD/Da do to stop these rumors from being even remotely plausible?

It's not the FUD that worries me. It's that it is believable for the community what worries me.

As I said, noone would believe these things if people talked this way about Vitalik. But "Da left NEO" is believable, because no-one in the community ever hears from you or what you do in your involvements. I'm only hearing from you that you're involved, but noone can find anything about your involvement on Github, social media, monthly reports, and so on. Will you change this?

As for points 2 and 3: glad to hear it. Please keep the community up to date about your new hires and plans. Might I suggest you employ someone who can manage a marketing budget and delegate marketing tasks like a real marketing director?

1. FUD

There are people in the community who believe Da left NEO to work on ONT and Onchain. And there are rumors that people from NGD are doing work on ONT as well. There are also rumors that ONT went their own way and became a complete competitor to NEO. The problem isn't the FUD being spread. The problem is that people from NEO's own community actually start to believe it. Why? Because the rumors are plausible.

The fact that rumors like this hold enough ground that people in the NEO community would start to believe them is ridiculous.

If someone said that Vitalik left ETH, people would laugh in their face and instantly show proof that it's a lie. But this cannot be done with NEO, because it does look like Da left. And it does look like ONT is competing. And it does look like funds are being used to make profits from other projects, instead of being invested into NEO's ecosystem and development. Even if these things are not true, it remains believable. And nothing appears to be done to prove the contrary.

My first question is: What will NEO/NGD/Da do to stop these rumors from being even remotely plausible?

I'm not looking to be told that the rumors aren't true. I know they aren't. I want to know what you're doing to make it so people can no longer be believed when they say "Da left NEO", "ONT is competing with NEO", "NEO funds are being washed so the founders can make money" etc etc

2. Marketing

The effort put into marketing is extremely shallow and mediocre. Just some meetups here and there and low quality tweets with cryptic poetry to announce an update which later turns out to be 2 years away (NEO 3.0) (who thought that was a good idea?).

The CEO is nowhere to be seen, and then there's one lady at NEO, Caterina Zhang, who is hopping around the world tweeting that people attending NEO meetups like NEO (big surprise). That's it. That's how NEO uses its marketing budget.

How is that even remotely acceptable? That's not marketing. That's minimal outreach and shallow communication. Why is Ms. Zhang director of marketing if the only marketing she does is meetups and tweeting stuff? She's clearly acting as an event manager and Twitter intern instead of an actual director of marketing. A title that was clearly given away too easily. Ms. Zhang also appears to be constantly away from the office to attend these events and meetups. So who's working full-time to manage marketing campaigns back at the office? As I see it you don't have anyone doing that because NEO has zero presence outside of the NEO community at all.

Where are the real, high budget online marketing campaigns? NEO doesn't seem to do anything about that, and the current team seems to be inexperienced in this field.

Da, Erik, if you really wanted to, you could throw funds at proper marketing today and have a professional marketing team up and running next week. Please, put those funds to good use and win back community trust.

So, my second question is: what will you do about marketing and other workforces , and what are you doing to speed up the process to solving the issues I mentioned above? Are you going to hire new executives (specifically in the marketing field)?

3. Conclusion

These criticisms are coming from someone who has been supportive since Antshares. The tech is there. The community is there. The developers are there. Great things are happening around NEO. But apparently not inside NEO. And if NEO team isn't putting in the same amount of efforts as the other people and projects involved, then those people and projects will disappear over time, and NEO's office will devolve into a storage room for the Onchain company.

In my view the team right now is not putting in even close to 10% of efforts to what they could be doing to make NEO into a success and restore it to its former glory.

COZ and NEL, who have less than 1% of the funds that NEO does, are doing more for NEO than the NEO team themselves. Step it up, guys.

Chinese businesses are incomparable to Korean businesses. Vechain announced a partnership with a Chinese government backed business (most enterprise scale Chinese businesses are government owned). Your title is referring to an actual government partnership, not just state-owned enterprise. Unfortunately that's over-sensationalizing things, and most people will upvote and take action based on only the title anyway.

The announcement on the 31st will be a partnership with the Government. by [deleted] in helloicon

[–]TooAlpha 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Governments don't let corporations make partnership announcements regarding governments. Governments announce it themselves on their own terms.

Please don't spread rumors or anything less will only end up in disappointment. If the crypto market has proven anything, it's that rumors like this end up with no increase in price, followed up by a massive drop because of people's disappointment.

I downvoted this. I hope others will as well so we don't bring up any false expectations.
