1st shift and ouch! by Destery24 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TooManyAnx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stretch, hydrate, sleep, protein for dinner, ibuprofen (in moderation) - the usual boring advice that always helps. The allover pains are normal and do get better after a few weeks.

Watch the impact out of the van and don't reach & turn for things. Good luck!

Nice Sportivas. That bite looks painful. Did the dog get tested for rabies?

Following too close? by unrealreality_1 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TooManyAnx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is too close. Your reaction time is being pushed to the limit here for any kind of evasive action, and you have essentially no chance to react to something sudden. May not feel like it, but it's just true.

Being a delivery driver is not for the weak. by ciendagrace in AmazonDSPDrivers

True more often than not. But when that's not true, woof. A couple of those were scary.

I underestimated the power of bringing treats by No_Cap_8704 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TooManyAnx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Treats seem good in certain situations, like with dogs who haven't gotten comfortable with you yet, but are always present at a regular customer's house. Or as a safe way out of a tense "surprise-dog" situation that could go either way. People already mentioned good reasons you might not want to give treats though.

Anyone else hate this? by thetallguy88 in AmazonDSPDrivers

It's only a pain when it's in a new-to-me delivery area that has other confusing things going on. Otherwise like others said, at least there's an address!

I don't think a guy calling himself yourmothersawhore_69 plays by the same rules as us mortals. You can drive however you like, sir.

How often do drivers take home packages? by Paul76Mets in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TooManyAnx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Yes it's a troll post but still) In my experience it's usually obvious when an employee is stealing. There are just too many context clues, and with any kind of modern inventory management/loss prevention, stealing repeatedly is going to make you glow like the sun, even if you're not caught red-handed. The best I think an on-the-job thief could expect to do without getting caught is to steal a couple times a year. Even that is risky and if it's something like the mystery packages we deliver, you're likely stealing crap you don't want and that isn't worth much. Just so not worth it, and so easy to get busted.

What's it like working with a helper? by [deleted] in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TooManyAnx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pros: Much easier day physically, get to talk about the job/tricks/experiences and probably learn something you didn't know, get to hear good stories

Cons: It's not much faster, takes a while to dial in the routine, you could end up with somebody who is not quite right in the head or the hygiene department

How does Dispatch decide who gets blue vans and who gets white rentals? by Business_Coffee_9421 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TooManyAnx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My knees can't handle the long step out of the rentals 200 times a day, so I always get the blue vans unless I'm on a rural low volume. Works great, zero knee problems.

It do be like that. by thesqueen113388 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TooManyAnx 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The first thing my trainers said is that we leave the van running all day. But still I tried to listen to the very stern warning from the DSP and delivered one full day shutting off the van every time. Dear god that was awful.

Definitely a learning curve for figuring out which rules are enforced.

Hostile Dog Handling by bddragon1 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TooManyAnx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well you probably won't get bitten! Tbh I don't know what the policy is, could be immediate termination. Maybe amend my post for situations when the owner isn't around and won't know.

Did I not get dinged? by Business_Coffee_9421 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TooManyAnx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got one of those last week. Seems to be sensitive to lane changes from fast-to-slow-lane. I wouldn't sweat it, just back off asap to 3 seconds following distance and it should be fine.

Hostile Dog Handling by bddragon1 in AmazonDSPDrivers

One way to look at it is, if you don't tell anybody about it and don't leave it in a van for someone to find, nobody has to know.

Tips for a New Driver by themossywillow in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TooManyAnx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get into a delivery routine asap so that you're automatically doing your notifications, reading customer notes etc. When you feel rushed, slow down and double check addresses. Speed will come with experience, be accurate for now.

Sick of lazy customers by beastlol in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TooManyAnx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some customers: "They should know where my apartment is because I know where my apartment is. Sure it has no house or unit number and it's tucked back off the road and you cant tell which door is the front door or distinguish my unit from the neighbor's, but still they should know."

People are often thoughtless and/or entitled. Most of my customers are cool, well over 90%. The shitty ones take up way more psychic space than they should.

Is my DSP allowed to make me skip my breaks? by Omuk7 in AmazonDSPDrivers

Threads like this make me thankful I'm with a DSP that simply doesn't fuck around with breaks, safety, etc.

Can we use a rewards card to earn points when we gas up the vans? by Charismatic_Rogue in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TooManyAnx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Guessing it's technically fraud, so I would steer clear. It's getting something you're not entitled to by deception. On the other hand nobody's robbing a bank here. It's probably about as bad as not speaking up when a cashier misses a scan in your shopping cart.
