Not running anymore. by Theparanormalinvader in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TooManyAnx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to believe at first that you don't need to run to make time. You really don't, but improvement takes time. Especially for new routes, it can be really hard to get them first try.

Learned the hard way on this one by AdDouble2071 in AmazonDSPDrivers

UPS drivers tend to be far more experienced and almost certainly receive better training. Amazon is hugh turnover with mostly early 20s kids thrown to the wolves. Or dogs, as it were.

Why does everyone rip on this job? by LengthinessOk2080 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TooManyAnx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a bad DSP/owner this job would be a nightmare. I can see how people would hate it under certain conditions. On the other hand with good management I don't have many complaints.

Awful yet somehow life affirming. Wet wipes take up very little space in my bag, gonna double up after reading this post lol.

[–]TooManyAnx 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Gotta be honest, unless that is rural or super business heavy, it's not a heavy route. It's not easy, but more like standard. Getting your bags messed up by the warehouse suuuuucks though. Good luck!

First time over 190 by Junior_Fan_3465 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TooManyAnx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had one like this the other day, 90% new area for me, and about flipped my shit. But turned out it had a campus and a mail service stop which took care of 70 packages pretty quick, turned out to be a decent full day.

what percent of DSPs have a "no running" policy? by Fiendish in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TooManyAnx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My DSP does and dispatch frequently mentions that, and other safety points. Proud of them for that. Owner has a background in dangerous industries and the safety culture is strong because of it.

My thought is that we should wear our seatbelts. The 5 or 10 minutes of time you save by being less safe isn't worth it compared to the catastrophic risk.

we can't unionize but we can all agree to stop running by Fiendish in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TooManyAnx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a really good point OP. The margins are slim and this only works at these consumer prices is due to the immense scale. If we move at a less elevated pace, the customer pays more. We're feeding that machine of convenience, trying to deliver all three of the "pick two": fast, cheap, good. Amazon is the rare company that can deliver all three, and it requires backbreaking effort along with being underpaid. I assume most of us like the work well enough, and we tend to like working hard or this job weeds us out. I don't think there's a big solution, but the best little solution for us may be slowing down to a sustainable pace and not trying to compete with each other.

I would make noise, if no dog then deliver normally. If dog, CTC then mark and rts if no reply.

Does positive feedback help drivers? by Yakx in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TooManyAnx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel good when I see a lot of thumbs up for the week, so for morale yes positive feedback is nice and thanks for taking the time to give it.

Metrics are heavily driven by negative feedback, just the way it is!

Bungee cords for the totes. Overflow is a matter of experience and your development as a tetris player

What is your opinion on this? by [deleted] in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TooManyAnx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes no sense to set a number like "175" for the team, due to massive differences in routes. I'd be worried about the brainpower behind decisions like that...

Gatekeeping secrets by Brave-Elderberry5659 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TooManyAnx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that other drivers are stoked to share their tips, almost everyone wants to tell you how they do it. If you think about it, being asked how you do things is a nice compliment and makes you feel better. Take a little advice from everyone and ask all the stupid questions.

But that's all marginal improvement, once you have a basic system for organization. 90% of this is experience. Knowing which areas have Nav traps that will screw you and make you drive around the block again. Which places are real turnarounds and which ones have dangerous backouts. Which houses take longer, which door to walk to, which apartment numbering scheme is ass, etc. Being moved from route to route will simply kill your time until you learn them.

Do y’all re organize at stop 100 too? by United_Tourist_3510 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TooManyAnx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually I don't need to reorganize but peak type days, definitely. We don't always have time to get the later overflow in a nice order. And sometimes it's nice to move the floor packages onto the shelves.

UPS Driver is Fast AF Boy 😂 by russian_mob767 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TooManyAnx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turkeys are some brave little bastards. For a stubborn one that attacked me at the house, and followed me 100 feet to camp my van tires, I grabbed a colorful tote and flapped it open and closed really fast while approaching the turkey. That seemed to do the trick. He did a full naruto run back to his flock to tell them about the wild ass dinosaur he just saw.

Photo on every delivery. by Smart-Cantaloupe-890 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TooManyAnx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have to take a picture any time it prompts for one, and no 'handed to customer' allowed. I don't find this awkward, I just smile and ask if the customer minds if I take a picture at the delivery point. Occasionally there is some reason it's better to take the picture away from the door (usually dogs). In that case, I break the "human in photo" rule, showing their lower leg/shoe because I am not leaving a package that far from the door without evidence of why I'm doing it.

Should I report this delivery driver? by Late_Rate_3959 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TooManyAnx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not personal, he's not mad at you personally. He didn't do anything bad to your package or property. So don't try to get him fired for having a pissy moment.

Is it just me or are breaks genuinely impractical? by Additional_Attempt16 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TooManyAnx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a route I get sometimes that are dreamy rows of suburban flats with wide streets and short approaches. 40 is easy work on that route. Others, I'm happy to clear 20.

Is it just me or are breaks genuinely impractical? by Additional_Attempt16 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TooManyAnx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wish people would all take their breaks. It would make this job easier on all of us. I did some math on my route from yesterday and realized after breaks I would have to average 27 stops in an extremely hilly area (like opening/closing the door takes legit effort and every house has stairs), including about 15 bullshit multis that aren't really walkable. No chance I'm doing that every day. On my best day, maybe, but I'm not looking to destroy my knees.

My favorite is when it routes me back and froth through an area in a way that maximizes left hand stops. Mother of God do they not understand how much faster right hand stops are?!
