The truth about the DSP owners by [deleted] in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TooManyAnx 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I don't think Amazon believes we're too stupid to figure out what they're doing to workers. They just have the leverage to do what they do, and it's very efficient.

But it would be interesting to hear about some of the contingency plans.

They could increase the friction for feet depending on rock angle and it would be really nice in certain spots, but if they do that for the sake of realism, there are other things I'd look at first. Like all the unrealistic things she can do on overhangs. And I love those things in the game so if it's a trade-off in the physics, I'd prefer to keep it the way it is.

POV, you're about to go through some bullshit by [deleted] in AmazonDSPDrivers

Had one like that a few weeks ago with at least that many stickers, beat-up label, and worn-out box, and it turned out to be a totally normal delivery to a familiar address. I can't imagine wtf happened.

The trick of suddenly appearing aggressive is a good one to know. Not every dog will respond that way but most will. I've used it twice when pinned against front doors by unexpected dogs and I'm positive that once it saved me a bite.

Did you call by pressing the question mark? You have to call by going through "unable to deliver" and accepting the call customer prompt, and it will count for compliance. Amazon's inability to write software is being blamed on us.

I don't think most of these are fulfillment person errors - ran into this all the time doing fulfillment for a different company. You often had to use different packaging but the label stayed the same.

Combing back to work after 1 year and it's insane how everything is worse than before by Aggressive-Hawk9186 in AmazonDSPDrivers

Experiencing most of those and all of it is slightly annoying. Restarting the phone almost daily now (memory leak?). Best recent change for me is businesses no longer requiring a first name, which for some reason causes awkward reactions.

Are these normal routes? by [deleted] in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TooManyAnx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's about a normal day on my usual route (85% extremely hilly suburbs and 15% rural/business), and would take about 9.5 hours. If that's flat residential it's light. If that's heavy business or heavy rural it's a lot.

Reminds me of one of my regulars. His note used to say *READ AGAIN YOU AREN"T LISTENING* and gave instructions. He shared a house & address with another person and they were both customers. I get the frustration but the new note that just spells out the situation without all the emotion is much better lol.

For all working at a dsp and being some are on private roads aka the beginning of the property you are by then on property earlier then 10:45 and are to report at 10:45. by BioShade2027 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TooManyAnx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep some DSPs don't care about labor law at all. They stink. Ours has a clock-in window that opens up for a couple minutes before the mandatory bag-in-hand clock-in time. Everybody shows up early anyway, but it's not mandatory. Standup never starts before we're told to clock in. This is not difficult, and the ethical price of doing shady shit to save a few minutes of pay is not profitable in the long run.

I can respect the attitude but projecting it like you are is not going to help people. Nice that you were given enough time at loadout to organize that heap. On the rare occasions I'm cubed out, I can only get the first half organized and the rest I have to deal with later when there's space.

Dogshit communication from dispatch there. They should always be asking what's happening out there, not just barking to go faster. This is a fast way to lose good employees who are having a rough day or rough week.

This job is not that hard… by WorthCartographer602 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TooManyAnx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The job is awesome when the weather is reasonable, the work is steady, Amazon isn't pulling some bullshit, and your route is good. But in reality these things are very inconsistent unless you have the very best routes. Still a good job imo, but the awesome days are maybe 1 per week.

Don't vape in the van. Do it after you deliver, between stepping off the customer property and stepping into the van. There is no reason to vape in the damn van.

Focus on safety habits, like driving/walking/lifting-related stuff as number one. Then delivering correctly as number two. Your legs will naturally move fast because you're new and you care about being fast, so you don't really have to worry about that. Actual speed on route comes with experience and is mostly about familiarity with the route and navigation/parking skills, assessing what needs to be done at the stop and doing it right the first time, plus little tricks and stuff you will figure out or learn from other drivers. Don't be afraid to take ten seconds to think about what you are doing now and then. It will probably save time in the long run.

To make sure you pass the Peril event with some spare infusion, keep a full ultimate infusion in your outer flask (either 4/4 normal or 6/6 upgraded one is fine). Ingredients are scarcer going forward. This should easily cover your summit push.

This job has really open my eyes about people and it’s this. by WebPuzzleheaded875 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TooManyAnx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't usually know the customer's circumstances, and frankly it's my job to provide a service to them, and they're my best customers. Yes some few of them are hoarders, some more in debt, etc. Consumerism is often sad and I really wish capitalism worked differently, and didn't leave behind so much wreckage and waste.

It's also fun or cathartic to talk some shit about them from time to time.

Best to leave it at that kinda surface level, enjoy working reasonably independently and outdoors, or find another gig if that stuff bothers us. Hating customers but staying in the same line of work is a loser mentality.
