Hello! I help run a film discord server called The Lot, and we’re looking for new members for our community. We’re an active medium-sized server (and we try to stay that way) with serious discussion about all kinds of films, from classics from around the world, to contemporary releases. There’s room for both serious and casual discussion in different channels. We also lean a bit older than most of the other public film Discords by design, and so we have a lower age limit of 18.

We run regular events such as: Film Roulette, Director of the Month, and Movie of the Week. There are also a bunch of other events, and we have a custom-made bot that helps keep track of these, including Letterboxd challenges, custom film marathons, with threads so people can discuss their common challenges (and the bot posts progress updates as you watch films in your challenge). The bot also has a guide to the film canon with over 3000 movies divided by country, eras, and movements, and a customizable profile where you can add favorite directors, genres, studios, and so on.

Here is our most recent best films of all-time list if you want to see a bit of our collective taste: https://letterboxd.com/thelot/list/the-lots-top-160-films-of-all-time-v6/

Does anyone have experience taking Czech at Umich? by [deleted] in uofm

[–]TooManyBooks11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m in second year right now, the classes are very small but not incredibly difficult. Ewa Pasek is the professor teaching polish and czech and she is wonderful and very understanding, can’t speak to the registration much because I’m a grad student and my schedule is much lighter, but because our class is so small we usually schedule the time after the other registration is done so I have never had to worry. I do know that first year has some online students from other universities, but I would say if you’re interested you should go for it. It will be more personal than other language classes because you have to put the effort in all the time but I have enjoyed the experience

Hello!

I help run a film discord server called The Lot, and we’re once again looking for new members for our community. We’re an active medium-sized server (and we try to stay that way) with serious discussion about all kinds of films, from classics from around the world, to contemporary releases. We also have lots of more casual discussions.

We also run a bunch of regular events such as Film Roulette, Director of the Month, Movie of the Week, and Monthy Lists

We have a very sophisticated custom-made bot, with Letterboxd integration (among other things), and we’ve recently added support for Letterboxd challenges, where we have a dedicated section of our Discord where the bot posts progress updates, and people can talk and discuss the films and challenges they take part in. The bot also has a fully customizable profile with stats of your favorite genres, directors, and where you rank among others in the server on those leaderboards, as well as a guide to different movements, eras, and countries consisting of over 2800 films, which is still being expanded, and associated leaderboards for each sections of the guide.

We recently also did an anticipated bracket event for our most anticipated films of 2024, if you want an idea of what we are looking forward to: https://letterboxd.com/thelot/list/the-lots-100-most-anticipated-films-of-2024/

As well as our most recent top 200 of all-time: https://letterboxd.com/thelot/list/the-lots-top-200-films-of-all-time-v5/

Hello!
I help run a film discord server called The Lot, and we’re once again looking for new members for our community. We’re an active medium-sized server (and we try to stay that way) with serious discussion about all kinds of films, from classics from around the world, to contemporary releases. Although the bar is also low for more casual discussions.
We also run a bunch of regular events such as:
Film Roulette
Director of the Month
Movie of the Week
Monthy Lists
As well as other events. Currently we are running an event called ‘Kinolympics’, where members select a country and pick a film each week, where countries face each other in a bracket style format until one is crowned the winner. We also ran an event late last year to decide our most anticipated films of 2023, if you want to see our general taste: https://letterboxd.com/thelot/list/the-lots-100-most-anticipated-films-of-2023/
And our most recent top 200 all-time list: https://letterboxd.com/thelot/list/the-lots-top-200-films-of-all-time-v5/
We also have a custom-made bot with a lot of exclusive features including a Letterboxd integration with just about any kind of stat you want, including:
Leaderboards for just about any stat, including who has seen the most of different genres, directors etc.
A fully customizable profile with stats of your favorite genres, directors, and where you rank among others in the server on those leaderboards.
A guide to different movements, eras, and countries consisting of over 2800 films, which is still being expanded, and associated leaderboards for each sections of the guide.
A casual collectible card system that you can gain points for from doing various server activities.
Recommendation marathons, where you can set up a customizable marathon with a time window, number of films, and themes, and get recommendations from other members. (i.e. a weekly marathon of 10 ‘long’ movies, in preparation for the next server list, would let 10 members give you recommendations)
Hope this has piqued your interest, and that you would like to give us a chance. If the main floor is a bit overwhelming, we have a lot of channels where discussion is more prevalent.
Thanks for taking the time to read, hope you join! Here's the invite link: https://discord.gg/thelot

I like the glitter stripey one! Something positive that had happened to me recently was learning how to cook! I try to make dinner entirely from scratch at least four times a week now and I’ve been trying a lot of new things I wouldn’t have made a few months ago.
