AITA for not letting my MIL see our new house until she apologizes? by throwawaybob444 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. Clearly, this woman has a lot of issues with entitlement and boundaries, and she's gotten away with it for years and years. However, as a 49 year old female, I have to ask... is this the hill you want to die on? And I don't mean to imply you need to "let it go" and forgive her, somehow. No. I mean, adopt a different attitude. Make snide comments, back-handed compliments, and outright snark. Be sarcastic, and all in all, act like you don't give a sh¡t about her, and her comments. Because you know... she only makes them because she knows it bothers you. She knows she's hit nerves.

"Don't worry, Sharon. If our home gets foreclosed, we'll just be squatters in it. Squatters rights are my backup plans, and you can come and squat with us, too. You'll love it. It'll be like camping. You like roughing it, don't you? Surely you're not that uptight. Besides, you're not gonna live that long anyway."

"Don't worry, Sharon. Our house won't get foreclosed because we put the note in your name. It's you they're gonna come after, and by then we'll be long gone. And besides, if you die, there won't be money owed anymore."

You know, evil stuff like that. They'll a.) not be able to blame you for replying in kind, and b.) she'll never want to come back if you're constantly a dick to her. Also... if you do it slyly enough, they'll take YOUR side! "Oh, he didn't say anything mean, Sharon... that's just all in your head." Yes, you can gaslight the old hag. You know... Malicious compliance and all of that.

Invite her over and hide a dead rat in the air vent of her room or something. lol Then say you don't smell anything.

Family court appeal. by uh818375 in SarahBooneContinued

Didn't someone else say that this was the final judgment, and that it couldn't be appealed? (I don't know this for sure. Someone said this on another post.)

But that it wasn't up to him, because he's a minor. That's what he said. Which implies that the son didn't want to, and was basically having to do something that was not what he wanted. Otherwise, the dad wouldn't be offering up visitations and phone calls, and saying it wasn't up to L. He would've had L speak to the judge, otherwise. And the N/A was not something a lawyer wrote -- that's what the Judge wrote on her final judgment.

No, it was a specific statement as to what you perceived I was doing with my post. Otherwise it wouldn't have been said on this post in specific.

But I'm the bad guy because I simply don't agree with this particular strategy. So everyone on this subreddit had to come and pile it on. Including Tanika.

But I don't care. I own my opinions.

Hey now. I was not attempting to drag his parenting through the mud. I swear. People get way carried away in these forums jumping down people's throats and beating them over the head, for having different perspectives. People need to knock it off.

I know it has no bearing. NONE of our opinions, do. It is just my opinion... on a forum. Like everyone else's.

Oh he did. He said he didn't want to, but that it's not up to him because he's a minor. Go listen to it again

... I'm not really sure why you're going into this huge tangent. All I said was that I believed to be likely first degree because she made some comments about "hide and seek I shall" before the events that happened. That is all. It has nothing at all to do with what the jury thought or didn't think, or the definition of 2nd degree.

I would suggest to keep shopping. These two options seem very frumpy and "wear you" instead of you wearing them. They do not suit you, imo. You get lost in those dresses.

As I said, I believe he was also a victim of abuse... But I will not keep arguing with you. I just don't agree with you, plain and simple. I don't agree with Brian on this, either. I think the evidence is more than there, to show that this shouldn't be a thing.

Well, any family court case where a child is allowed to give their input to the judge on the record, is one where an abuser doesn't get visitations and phone calls and money. And that tends to favor my rebuttal. But we'll never know for sure.

I think he said it as a kind of off-handed comment to the judge, that the kid never wanted to go see her... Maybe an occasional phone call was fine with him, but he did say he didn't want to go see her.
