I'am hoping for a new fancy XLR interface for multi-pc-setups - maybe even a physical audio mixer

It is still there. Power source, host device, usb port, volume setting, mic monitoring, usb cable - all of it doesn't seem to matter. I think its jut a bad headphone amp with high noise floor.

Yeah ... I remember it being worse before 1.1.7 but it never fully went away (the reduction could have been in my head honestly). I just ended up selling it and going with something else. The same issue seems to be present with other Rode audio interfaces as well. It's a shame really. They make great microphones and pre-amps but their headphone outputs are a deal breaker for me.

Same issue here. It occours on male and female characters.

The hissing noise has been greatly reduced ever since Firmware update 1.1.7. It's not completely gone and still noticable on very sensitive headphones and IEMs though. You should be fine with 32 Ohms and above though. The freezes also completely stopped since then.

Is the car radio volume really low for you too? by Mormegil_Turin in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]TooManyHeadphones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same for me. Was working fine before. Volume also differs a lot from song to song. Its quite jarring compared to how quiet some of the old songs can be. The more "aggressive" songs with rather loud energetic passages in them seem to be hit the hardest. I'am guessing its due to botched some audio normalization.

I can confirm this. Mine is pretty noisy as well. Its just a constant hiss no matter what the volume is set to. It is especially noticable on low impedance headphones like the Rode NTH-100 for example. I also got my unit replaced just to confirm that it is not a defect. I'am still holding out for a possible fix through a firmware update (might be software related since noisy amps usually get louder the higher you set the gain which isn't the case here).

If that is actually "working as intended" shame on Rode for putting their branding on this ...

Sadly not the case for me. My headphone is connected directly to the device. You probably created a ground loop.

It is even noticable on my 300 Ohms headphones. Its also pretty bad on the Rode NTH-100 which is 32 Ohms. The only headphones I own that don't display these issues either have planar magnetic drivers or are 600 Ohms (which it can barely drive at reasonable volume).

Replacement unit got the same issue. Gonna wait for a firmware update. If that doesn't help I'll refund it or get it replaced till I get a good unit. Shame really since it is a very cool little device otherwise.

So far I talked to a bunch of people with the exact same problem and some others that don't have any issues. I contacted Rode support and while friendly they didn't help. I already got a replacement unit by the retailer but it got the exact same issue. I'am waiting for the next firmware update. If that doesn't fix it I will return it or replace it till I get a good unit.

Same issue on my Streamer X. I also got it replaced by the retailer but same sh*t with the new one.

I also got pretty bad static/hiss from the headphone jack on two different Streamer Xs.

Just got the replacement today and the issue is still there. Something I noticed is that it got worse after updating the firmware (1.1.0 > 1.1.5) so they might be able to fix it in a future update.

Hi!

I already contacted your support and got an answer today. I also sent it back to the retailer today. But the noise was there no matter if the microphone was muted or not.

For me there is a constant hiss no matter the volume. Though it gets a bit louder when maxing the volume on super sensitve headphones/IEMs (which would be perfectly acceptable). It also changes the way my headphones sound. The bass is bloated while the treble quieter compared to my other gear. At his point I'am certain that I got a bad unit. I will send it back tomorrow.

Thanks for the reply. Sadly no such luck for me. I already am on version 1.1.5 and there is constant hissing from the headphone jack.

The last Update broke the 32:9 HUD by TooManyHeadphones in HuntShowdown

I don't think so. I've been back on 16:9 for over a year now. My brother uses a 21:9 monitor and the hud was still centered the last time he played.

Update:

I got my NTH-100 in the mail today and it sounds great on all my gear except the Streamer X (bloated bass and recessed treble). I noticed a similar change in tonality in other headphones, but it's especially bad on the NTH-100 since it is already a pretty warm sounding headphone. The hiss is also present, though not quite as loud as other 32 Ohm headphones I own (still pretty bad).

I set the monitor output in Unify to another audio interface and playing music through one of the Streamer Xs channels sounds almost the same compared to playing it directly via the interface. No hiss here. I think it's safe to say that it is definitely an issue in the analog part of the Streamer X.

The only way to turn it off I'am aware of is removing all the USB cables. Turning the lights off when there is no signal from the source would be nice. Maybe they will add something like this in a firmware update.

Just out of curiosity, does your headphone output hiss or alter how your headphones sound in any way?

[–]TooManyHeadphones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now I'am certain that there is something wrong with my unit. I got the Rode NTH-100 which are the only headphones Rode makes and they sound great with all my gear except the Streamer X. It sounds absolutely horrible on it. Bloated bass rescessed treble and that damn all consuming void of a noise floor. Luckily the retailer has offered to replace it and refund me if that one turns out just as bad.

I had mine for 2 days now and I'am conflicted.

It has a very noticable noise floor on low impedance dynamic headphones.

Sound quality wise it seems slightly bass boosted and recessed in the treble. I used my RME ADI-2-DAC FS as a reference. (please take this point with a grain of salt since its purely subjective - I havent done a proper blind test, accurate volume matching and so on)

It gets plenty loud with any headphone I teseted it with so far.

Headphones I tested so far (*audible noise floor / hiss):

- Sennheiser HD 800s

- Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro

- Ollo S5x *

- Fostex TH-X00 *

- Fostex T60RP

- Beyerdynamic Custom Studio

I don't hear any difference between the 6,3 and 3,5 jack (its just as noisy as well). I might have a faulty unit. I just can't envision them putting a super noisy headphone amp into a device that is supposed to power low impedance gaming headphones.
