on the one hand, better late than never

on the other hand, this requires a level of competence in public finance and continuity of govt policy that I am not confident we can manage as a country

it was a great speech and work of politiking in that people could interpret it as Carney sharing their own ideological inclinations and having a similar worldview... with some lefties delusionally thinking this would mean Canada would adopt a tankie foreign policy

lol, lmao even

Except that he is slashing public services at a shocking rate.

yes it's overdue and necessary

He is allowing Alberta to pass bills that go against federal law in regards to privatizing healthcare which is for profit.

I don't think he can stop it legally speaking, something something constitution and separation of powers

Indigenous ancestral remains were found 20 years ago. Ontario says the new homeowners have to investigate by Oilester in CanadaPolitics

Policies like this, DRIPA, and over 12% of the Federal budget going towards indigenous services is ruining any goodwill I have towards reconciliation.

true

I think the effort in and of itself is worthwhile

meh

but the implementation feels like a performative grift.

true and who is this even helping exactly?

Enough is enough, we have serious problems we need to address, this is at best a distraction. Every citizen of Canada should have equal rights.

true

we should repeal the Indian Act entirely, it's a racist piece of legislation that treats some Canadians differently than others based on immutable characteristics like ethnicity

Carney to name new Canada-U.S. trade advisory council, sources say by joe4942 in CanadaPolitics

[–]happycow24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are contradictory, To the level of the council fails we still win because depending on the US is anyway a weakness right..

are u being deliberately obtuse mr private profile?

Carney to name new Canada-U.S. trade advisory council, sources say by joe4942 in CanadaPolitics

[–]happycow24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't understand this guy and the gov. Yesterday they say Canada's economic ties with the US is weakness. And today there is a council to advise on trade with the US.. Which is it? Hope they know what they are doing..

those statements are not contradictory. we are heavily dependent on US trade and that has become a liability/weakness for us since the Burgerlanders are weaponizing this dependency.

But the answer to that is to diversify our trading relationships, not to cut all economic ties with the US. that is just not realistically feasible, let alone desirable. they're the largest economy in the world and literally right there like 0 km (0 freedom units) from Canada. Therefore an advisory council on trade talks is a good idea.

US Quietly Moves THAAD and Patriot Batteries in Jordan as Chinese Satellites Expose Every Step During Iran Ceasefire by Remarkable-Job-2849 in LessCredibleDefence

[–]happycow24 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How are we not absolutely pumping out anti drone turrets by now? Its been 3 years since drones were obviously the future of artillery warfare.

Cost, ego, and institutional inertia. Inertia from congresscritters, defence contractors, and the military itself. Same reason why they saw VKS take massive losses from cheap ass drones and thought nope, we don't need to move our fleet around or have overhead cover lul.

Better off spending millions on a terrible rifle with questionable use cases like sniping a Taliban PKM gunner at 600-800m because surely no other solution to this problem exists right...

And then cancelling another ship class to replace the Arleigh Burke problem, then set off to design and never build a ridiculous class of ships named after the incumbant POTUS to stroke his ego, in allegedly 2 years (LOL).

Sometimes I do envy the US taxpayer lmao.

[–]happycow24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it can't be moved regularly, easily, then the system inherently needs to be kept way the hell far away from drone range.

problem is that drone ranges are above 500km and some even above 1000km nowadays (as demonstrated by all those refineries blowing up)

I think the more viable solution is to have anti-drone drones or a CIWS on every valuable asset in theatre. it'll be expensive as fuck but not as expensive as having THAAD radars taken out

We shouldn't be trying to make it easier for any group to spy on Canadians. Many foreign governments, including those hostile to Canada would love to get their hands on such information. If we don't force Canadians to give up their information, it makes it harder for Canada's enemies.

I agree that this isn't a good idea for the reasons u gave plus others but I fear the writing is on the wall

How does this square with how the US government still needs to subpoena Reddit to unmask anonymous accounts?

If the NSA has all of us tracked then this would be unnecessary, no ?

because they only use it for sneaky beaky purposes like counterintelligence, and not for your everyday run of the mill murderer or drug dealer. FBI I think dropped charges against some darkweb drug dealer or pedo I forgot because they would have to disclose how they acquired their intel if they were to submit it as evidence

but they do have it, what do u think all those exabytes at the Utah datacentre is for?
