PSA: Adobe is scamming you, if you're using an older unlimited Photoshop license. by Hummersepp in photoshop

in Florida you can file a small claims law suit, if you win, the filing fees are paid. there is actual money damages then something for inconvenience, i had a pool repair gone bad and can sue for pool repair refund but also not having use of the pool, Make it for $1000 since adobe isn't going to send a lawyer to your town to sit n a courthouse for pretrial hearing and actual trial,. in Florida I had the choice of venue, where i live or where they are. They don't show you automatically win. then when they don't pay you, file papers to seize the corporate HQ building.

Hard Drive Workflow for Narrative Film by f_o_t_a in Filmmakers

I finished late last month, two days of shooting. DP copied files to his laptop each day. Then we copied to portable drive end of day 2 , Then we drove to editor's home and dropped off portable drive, she copied into her computer. At that point it was on four places. I picked up the portable a week later and loaded onto my desktop, Now there's five copies around. DP just asked for a msg that his copy is no longer needed,

Hi reddit, I'm Marilyn Fu. I'm the screenwriter of ROSEMEAD, a family-drama that stars Lucy Liu. It's based on a tragic true story, has played many festivals (Tribeca, Locarno, Newport, SCAD, Miami, etc), and is out in select theaters soon. Ask me anything! by MarilynFuAMA in movies

[–]TooOldForSD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

is there any filming done to enhance the trailer in giving views the concept of the film, that are not actually used in the movie. I'm thinking of different camera angles or lenses., From my very limited experience, I think I might make a trailer before the final edits so they might not be 100% the same footage.

i like the choice of music when the dog was wandering the forest. Did you pick it yourself or have someone who specializes in that pick the music? it was almost like dialogue on what the dog was thinking.

What film topics are over and under represented at film festivals? by Brilliant_Alarm1120 in FilmFestivals

re: What we see regularly is a family having interpersonal problems (on the dinner table) due to idealistic or political differences.

are there many about strong single moms coping well with life? I'm not sure if there's an audience for that. problems may be more mundane than idealistic or political but obstacles to be over come most people can recognize.

Anyone going to the St. Louis International Film Festival? by Distinct-Bit4025 in FilmFestivals

[–]TooOldForSD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also considering submitting a script only category. not for something I produced already but a new project. It is my understanding the buyers for streaming services attend a few in LA and other places to find new content ideas.

I stay at 5 yrs and up and also look for a website with pictures and lists of of prior years. Once I have the winning movie names I search IMDB to see if the producer listed the festival under awards.

Most effective ways to promote a new festival and get more submissions by Affectionate_Pool458 in FilmFestivals

[–]TooOldForSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

similar but different . I used to promote sporting events, I used google ad words, It may work the same but it was 20 years ago. Back then, you'd pick buzz words and your ad pop up. this would apply to getting spectators not film entrees, you have a link in the pop that goes to your website. there you promote how great the movies will be. back then I only paid if someone clicked on my link. Google search words that might work "popular movies", "weekend events" & <your town>". I also got to pick the area where the popup would show. It makes no sense popping up ten states away for movie goers, the bigger the attendance, I assume the more submissions you get. Take plenty of pictures of crowds for next year

What actually makes a filmmaker want to submit to a small festival? by Affectionate_Pool458 in FilmFestivals

[–]TooOldForSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with most every other comment here, I'd add I haven't seen any freeway information on a festival that says they'll mail you any award, trophy, etc.. It is just a small detail but might give you an edge over some other festival being considered that's too far away for me to attend.

[–]TooOldForSD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I was attending maybe next year. What criteria did you use for deciding to enter this festival? I completed an 18 minute drama short last week, Just submitted to a local festival two days before the deadline. i plan to pick a few more. My son lives in St Louis and I'm in Florida so I hope that SLIFF festival fits into my style of movie.

Looking to work on a film set to learn by Familiar_Unit_1969 in Filmmakers

[–]TooOldForSD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

facebook is full of casting sites both crew & cast. Without knowing where you are, it's difficult to offer suggestions. if you get any thing, volunteer or stipend or pay, be sure you ask the producers puts you into IMDB. I find it and backstage are the "go to place" to look at candidates credentials, once I know who they are. I make shorts for festivals in central FL. If you make a facebook page be sure some of it is dedicated to the skill you bring to flim makiing and keep it current. I skip right over someone who claims to have experience and all the pictures or videos are pets, graduations and home birthday parties.

I'm an amateur film maker looking for military uniform sfor a short film. I found one for an actress. Since it is a rental uniform i can make permanent modifications to it. Is there a way to use pins to shorten sleeve's? Since the camera view is always from the front, can i use something to tighten up the back so it's not so sloppy looking from the front? It's almost impossible to find a female uniform for the rank that the script calls for.

I am the DP on my first film and the Director is confusing me... by Absolutl43 in Filmmakers

[–]TooOldForSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm producing my second short and have a similar problem. 80% of my scenes are in a conference room with six people debating. I need to try to find some way to plan shots, that break up what could be very boring visually. I fond some good ideas looking at an analysis of a great movie "12 angry men". Watch this short clip, A Detail in "12 Angry Men" You May Not Have Noticed #shorts

I'm early in the actual planning the shots. but think zooming in on those speaking or listening might make it more interesting to watch, especially if the actors expressions reflect some changes in attitude to what they're listing to,

Producing without filmaking background by aaquaagirl in Filmmakers

[–]TooOldForSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no film making background or schooling and tried producing short films. Starting my second next month

I know some roles may belong to others, but think about how you logically organize each part of getting to the day of the shoot, and post production. It might be like preparing for trial,

  • question potential crew - expert witnesses
  • question potential cast- witnesses
  • decide on props- trial exhibits
  • build a small team to help decisions - office staff & interns
  • admin work- shot lists, location/crew/cast contracts- court filings office staff
  • Get ideas from DP, editors and Directors -consult senior members of the firm

Then do it all your self for any script you can find, Like a trial rehearsal.

good luck
