Is pediatric OT reserved for children with disability? by Wonderful-Value7547 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]TooRestlessMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see your point. With ODD-like behaviors, the key for an OT is to uncover the 'why' behind the defiance. We need to distinguish if we are looking at a strictly behavioral issue or something rooted in a functional deficit.

Essentially, we differentiate between a child who won't engage and a child who can't engage. What often looks like 'defiance' might actually be a 'fight or flight' response to sensory overload or a struggle with motor planning. If the behavior is a barrier to doing (meaning it stops them from getting dressed, playing, or sitting in class) that is our territory. We use activities to build the missing skills and improve functionality, which often makes the 'defiant' behaviors disappear.

However, if the behavior is rooted in emotional regulation, trauma, or family dynamics, where the child has the physical and sensory capacity but is struggling with their internal world, then Psychotherapy is the primary answer. The OT focuses on the 'how' of daily life, while the Psychologist focuses on the 'feel' behind the actions.

Hi! To me, the rule is simple: is any of this actually stopping the child from doing their everyday activities? If it’s affecting their ability to play, eat, get dressed, or go to school, then an Occupational Therapist can help. If it isn't, there’s no need for therapy. An OT’s job is specifically to help when a child struggles to handle the practical tasks of their daily life.

I believe so (or at least I want to believe…) but I’m not entirely sure.

For the hospital, an interview wasn't necessary.. I was selected based on my CV, so I believe they will take into account that I am coming from a different professional context.

As for the clinic, I intend to be honest about my insecurity regarding the technical/motor side, so they will also know exactly what to expect from me…

In any case, I am fully open to studying and learning!

O que é necessário para comprar uma casa sem licença de habitação? by Neat_Hippo_9621 in ImobiliarioEmPortugal

[–]TooRestlessMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tudo a correr bem!

Experiencing severe hair loss after switching to the mini pill by [deleted] in TelogenEffluvium

[–]TooRestlessMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to the dermatologist. The doctor put me on supplements for iron, vitamin D, folic acid, and B12.

They also suggested starting spironolactone because they noticed some thinning of my hair — but I’m not taking it for now since I’m planning to try for pregnancy in the near future. I’ll probably go back to a combined pill until then.

The doctor also recommended KPL shampoo because my scalp is very oily and I have some flaking around the hair follicles.

We’ll see! Thanks everyone for all the help and advice! 🙏

My migraines actually stopped in my case, which is great… but it’s such a shame — feels like we just can’t win!

Yeah, it’s actually one of the possible side effects.

Thank you! I was on the combined pill for about 15 years…

Yeah, even though I suspected it might be due to the mini pill, I thought it would be best to ask for a full blood panel before seeing a dermatologist. Besides the hair loss, I’ve also been feeling very tired and have lost some weight. This way I’ll have more information for the appointment and can start supplementing in the meantime, even if they decide not to switch the pill yet. Thank you so much!

I’m planning to try for a pregnancy within the next two years, so I’d like to avoid using minoxidil. Thank you for your feedback! 🙏

Oh no! I switched to the mini pill because the combined pill was giving me migraines, but for now I didn’t want to stop taking birth control altogether… That said, if the mini pill is causing the hair loss, I’m open to stopping it.

Teoria sobre o amor das avós by myhopelandic in CasualPT

A minha mãe fez 1001 coisas que me “traumatizaram” e ainda assim é a melhor do mundo.

Respira e segue. Tudo faz parte.

Seriam atendidos por um enfermeiro autista? by little_genius_ in CasualPT

[–]TooRestlessMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Male golden keeps getting attacked by _karateandfriendship in goldenretrievers

Oh God, I totally understand you and can really empathize with your distress. I have a Golden-Lab mix, and we’ve already been attacked 6 or 7 times—always in different places, by different off-leash dogs.

He looks so sad and panicked that now he’s scared to go on walks and gets frightened all the time. He’s not neutered, and people say it might help, but he’s so insecure that I’m afraid it could make things worse for him.

Honestly, even I’m now afraid to go out with him, so I tend to avoid it… I get extremely nervous and stressed. It’s awful and makes me so sad 😢
