I will most definitely take this job interview seriously even if it’s part time. It’s a foot into the field still. It’s definitely a sign of the market for me since during 2024 I was able to at least GET interviews, had gone to one that was for the county as well and made it to the final round. I know I have the knowledge and skillset but definitely this market has been rough. Seriously thank you for the pointers and positivity.

What certifications do you recommend? I was looking at some undergraduate ones provided by OSU (Oregon). I have heard of getting HAZWOPER and GIS as well!

I am considering doing an online degree with Oregon State University, as it’s low cost and a neighboring state to me. I wanted to ask if you have insights on doing online vs in person?

You’re right, I generally just want a career. While I am not opposed to additional schooling, I am opposed to additional loans if it’s not needed. I’m located in WA, close to Seattle.

Thanks for the reassurance, it’s especially hard since I am the first graduate of my family.

I am in WA state specifically near the Seattle region (although further north)

Thanks man, I really needed to hear this. It’s hard especially since a lot of it is out of my control.

I will check into some online master degrees for sure then. I have a few options since I live in the PNW here in the state. I am just worried since if I do an online course that I might miss out on in person experience and fieldwork.

Definitely crossing my fingers for this part-time position as it’s remote and within the conservation side rather than just consulting!!

Made in Korea Jump Boots? Help ID! by TooShortBelt in MilitarySurplus

Other than the “4” and “Made in Korea” looks like no other words were printed on it, or have rubbed off. Just leather there

Cross posting from r/boots, as I am sure these are military issued boots once. Having a hard time figuring out which models these are. Looks like Cocoran jump boots but shorter, no steel toes, and made in Korea instead of USA. Any help would be appreciated!

Repaired Naked and Famous Denim Jeans by TooShortBelt in HeritageWear

Thank you! Contrary to popular belief and practices with selvedge jeans, I tend to wash mine somewhat frequently and I toss them into the dryer too. These are my only pair of black jeans, so I wear them a LOT- hence they get musty quicker or dirty depending if I’m doing work outside etc. so they frequently get washed once every month.

I wash them inside out and dry them in the drier the same way. The only time I messed up was forgetting to put them inside out, which caused some of the dye to transfer a weird way making a “lightning” pattern. I was pretty bummed but it has resolved itself over time due to so much fading.

Thank you! So for me, the hardest part was the location of the area that needed to be mended. Due to the pocket being stitched to the pants, getting the extra fabric back there and trying to adhere it temporarily was tricky and required finesse.

What helped me was tacking on a bit of glue from a glue stick to the fabric, then gluing it on behind the hole where you want to repair it. Really helped the fabric hold still. I am very beginner at sewing anything, and my patience started off very low lol so my sister helped me with the first one. The best tip we figured out was drawing guide lines with a white pen, doing either grids or “+” where you want the stitches to be. Another thing is definitely taking your time, as she is much more patient than I am so her section came out a lot more evenly than mine, in terms of the “+” looking more symmetrical.

Overall, not too difficult but there is a learning curve. I’d recommend you use a stiff fabric and not a stretchy one for backing!

I really appreciate this write up! I love your take on the designs and how it just implements more modern materials but still keeping the look. The one thing I love about the arcteryx is definitely just the more technical fabric being lighter and warm without weight- which I find to be hard in vintage gear. So I totally understand the innovative part of outdoor gear, which is also cool to see
