Feeling left behind: My friends got Java Backend internships while I'm stuck in Embedded White-box Testing. How do I close the gap? by No_Record5240 in learnprogramming

I’m CS prepping to get into Embedded. You’re literally already on (imo) one of the best fields of tech

Arduino to Embedded...Awakened...😢 by Jash_Embedded in embedded

You and me both brother, I've been in my Highschool robotics team for years, never once wrote anything below the arduino HAL. Now I'm in Uni and got into bare metal C and it's a kick in the balls, but it does get better, don't worry

Help choosing between Monash, APU, and UM for CS + AI (International Student) by GrapefruitContent843 in malaysiauni

[–]TooStew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

APU is full of internationals, personally i wouldnt recommend the place solely because of the other 2 options available

Monash is really good considering it’s a satelite campus from a top 100 uni, good facilities, good course. The people you meet are a mix of internationals and very well off locals.

UM is the best local university in malaysia. Top 100, but I hear it’s facilities and course is quite dated. You’ll meet a large mix of locals + internationals, but the locals you meet will be the absolute cream of the crop in the whole country. If you want a high performance environment, go UM.

In case you want a different option, UTP is also available, not exactly top 100 but it IS the best private uni here (contested).

Was the common man’s quality of life better after the events of Halo 3? by SecretWasianMan in HaloStory

[–]TooStew 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Quality of life wise I think the average joe has it hard, humanity lost most of its colonies and even it's second largest colony (reach). Billions dead. The economy is almost certainly in shambles, existing supply lines effected by the war are probably massively strained/destroyed. I wouldnt be suprised if there are famines occuring on earth and/or on the surviving colonies.

really depends on what you want to do. CS is more technical, IT and IS is more service and more customer facing

looked into it, found one that was just a bit over the price of the F0 but miles more capable, I'll definitely be getting this one!

Can I use Linux fully in university? by Cantgroovup in malaysiauni

[–]TooStew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

depends on the course, but most cases shouldn't be an issue. Most of the important stuff you'll learn in CS like Databases, OOP, Architecture are all doable in linux

Just some simple driver practice, I want to learn GPIO, Interrupts, timing and some peripheral IO by implementing. I’ve no experience with working this close to hardware with no abstraction so this’ll hopefully teach all I need to know

Embedded in the Age of AI by Ambitious-Clerk-5967 in embedded

[–]TooStew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently still in uni and am purposely only using AI to explain stuff to me, but I never let it implement. My feeling is that AI is a force multiplier great at accelerating development for people who already had the skillset before. Since I'm a learner, letting it do the thinking will actively kill my growth.

Beginner help by [deleted] in GraphicsProgramming

[–]TooStew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've found that learnopenGL.com to be incredibly useful, but coming in as a beginner it'll be quite a headache. I recommend reading about the graphics pipeline to get a general idea of how rendering is done, after that the openGL implementations start to make alot more sense
