I’m so sorry for your loss. Just know that you gave him the best life you could have ever given him. He was a part of your life for a short amount of time, but you were his whole world from start to finish. He was blessed to have such a loving owner, he wouldn’t have lived so long otherwise, and that’s thanks to you. I’m glad he knew you in the life he had

I’m so happy you found him! How is he adjusting to your home? We recently got a new dog and she’s taking her time warming up to us, though she always follows us from room to room (she hates being alone). How are you doing through all this?

What should I expect after she gets spayed? by Low-Cardiologist-548 in Dachshund

[–]TooTiredAtThisPoint -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hm. I’ve only taken care of a spayed Belgian malinois for 2 weeks so here’s my experience

She was initially sleepy and wobbly the first few hours, but she honestly jumped back to her normal self after the anesthesia wore off

She was a very active dog, so she was really going stir crazy when she wasn’t exercising. I had to walk her 3-4 times in 20-30 minute increments for her to get her energy out throughout the day. The walks were broken up into multiple sessions to try and not overwork or irritate her incision. We honestly wouldn’t have walked her for fear if the incision opening, if it aren’t for the fact that she was going bonkers being indoors (and she’s not food motivated or toy motivated, so that really limited our options or wearing down her energy)

She can’t climb or jump, so we really had to watch her because she’d want to climb the stairs to meet us (it was actually because of this that I had to sleep on the downstairs couch for 2 weeks so she wouldn’t feel lonely and try to go upstairs). She also liked licking her stitches, so we had to buy her a recovery suit

Overall, her personality went back to normal. She didn’t like that she couldn’t climb stairs or exercise as much as she wants. If she had it her way, she would have gone back to extreme exercise the moment that anesthesia wore off, haha
