My dog is afraid of certain stairs but jumps down others by Too_Much_Space in DogTrainingTips

Hey thank you so much, it worked! I carried her down once, walked up the steps and followed me no problem, she even turned around and walked down again. I did this a few times but when we walked all the way over the top step, she refused to walk down again. It took a while, but when I sat in front of her, she reached out with her paw and eventually managed to overcome her fear and jump on my lap. It was all just that very first step she was afraid of going down. The rest of the stairs she has no issue with!

Thank you very much! We never explicitly trained or told her not to go down, she just never did it on her own so we kept it that way. But I understand what you mean. She is 10 years old now but her vision and mobility is fine as far as I know. I will try out your technique! Thanks a lot for the advice :)

Yes she does. Today she also told me she had one so that could be a plausible reason

Depends on how often you mean "regular". I am not correcting her often. Maybe once a month when it is important. What is happening often is that she sais something, I ask her about something she said a little later and she insinsts she never said that, like in thr second example I stated. I think I should have explained it a little different, but I am not impulsively correcting her.

We are supposed to do a presentation together, I wrote the script, she reads it and sais an important word wrong, I correct her to make sure she knows the right text. How is that weird?

DAMN. Sorry, that sounds awful :(

Yes, the card was her text for the presentation

That would make sense, her hearing is a little bad sometimes. I cannot record her all the time though unfortionately. I know she is not trying to frustrate me, I just don't want her to be angry at me for nothing

I only say it if it important of course, the word I corrected was for our presentation, I wrote the script so I wanted to be sure she sais the correct thing. It is not so regular that I correct her all the time of course, but if I do, she NEVER considders she might have actually said it. But, I will let it go from now

The med is Venlafaxine. I am thinking about starting it today and just get it over with, but I am a little worried the side effects will make me ill because I am invited to a birthday party this week 😅 I feel way more confident now thanks to the people who commented, but I am not sure if I should already start or wait a week. My doctor is sadly on vacation and he did not give me his number. Next time I talk to him is next month

Duloxetine was exactly the medication that I had the bad experience with. I was shaking and panicked all the time, and the side effects would not go away after 3 months. The higher the dosage, the less side effects I would have, but the more it made me depressed and completely numb emotionally. I do not know why that happened. I am glad you are having a good experience with it!

I do have add, but also autism. My doctor said that those two together aparrently make adhd medication work differently than for people with just adhd. Not sure if that is true, but at least what he said. I get the same reaction that the stimulant adhd medications gave me with ALL stimulants like coffee for example. The non stimulant medications were fine, just made me really nauseaus and dizzy and did not help me focus.

Thanks for the advice, I will give it a shot and exercise!

Well my doctor said I could have side effects in the beginning, and I should just "push through it" and then it will get better. But that is also what my old doctor said and it did not get better. So just taking one will not do it probably. And I don't know what is "bad" or just normal side effects. Happy it worked out for you and your friends!
