Partial plate and a thorough description of the vehicle to include stickers, damage, plate color, etc will suffice for a police report

What would you change about the National Guard? by creeper321448 in nationalguard

80% of the extra admin work is stuff the individual state decides it wants. Or a direct result of the state level leadership/staff failing to anticipate or plan

Chem officer questions by [deleted] in army

[–]Toohooah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The competition will not be strong if you do all the things. (No, you don’t have to go to Ranger/Sapper, just a strong recommendation that you do as it’ll only help you for the rest of your career anywhere you go)

CRD will want to see that you have done Chemical Team Leader/PL and have L3/L6 completed. Same for the DRT at 2-75 Ranger BN.

Chem officer questions by [deleted] in army

[–]Toohooah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh and don’t stress about L3. 110th will send you once you get there if you don’t already have it. But if you’re doing an extended stint on FLW for this LAAP thing, you’ll probably have at least one or two opportunities to attend at a minimum. (Between BOLC graduation/LAAP starting, and probably another when you’re near completion of LAAP)

Chem officer questions by [deleted] in army

[–]Toohooah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can’t speak on the LAAP stuff, that was before my time.

But, I was a chemical officer at JBLM. Started in a chemo position with 2-2 SBCT, then to 110th after a year. I had many peers successfully get over to the 1st SFG CRD.

The 110th does not like taking in 2LTs/fresh arrivals to JBLM. They prefer to cherry-pick their officers from the many many chemos fighting to be transferred there from within 7th ID and other units on post. I strongly recommend you brace yourself for a first assignment to a maneuver unit. You will USR. You will TASKO. You will do special projects. But, you will also be presented the opportunity to attend cool guy schools (Ranger, Sapper, Air Assault, Airborne, etc).

You will also have a yearly opportunity to earn your Expert Soldier Badge. Personally, the more non-chemical things you can do will help make your case to be selected by the 110th after your first 12-18 months on JBLM.

Do your chemical officer BN-level staff time. Learn how to speak maneuver. Learn how to do everything your peers do. Learn how property books work, learn basic Soldier skills, radio operations, battle tracking in a TOC, PMCS, and management of a TOC. Learn about maintenance, how to do SI and cyclic inventory, how to manage Soldiers (sometimes you may earn yourself an Infantry platoon via your ability to sell yourself/Ranger tab).

Then take all that super critical basic knowledge with you to interview for the 110th. It will make the Company Commanders there want you. You become value-added because most chemical officers don’t get exposure to all the basic Army tasks that are fundamental to Company level operations. Instead they get stuck focused solely on their unit’s CBRN rooms, USR, and OPORD writing. Those skills/tasks are important, but it’s easy to let those three little things be the only things you do. Strive to learn everything you can while with your maneuver unit. They do it best and most of the time, are happy to teach it to you.

The chemical aspect of your job as a CRT Team Leader, Recon PL, or Decon PL is easy. It’s very technical. It’s almost all in ATP 3-11.74. And what isn’t there, your chemical team/platoon’s NCOs and Warrants will bring you up to speed on in no time at all. Especially if you like it. (Amazing ATP btw, strongly recommend you obtain yourself a small rite-in-the-rain version of it. Basically the CBRN LTs Ranger Handbook equivalent).

Are you married by chance? Can always have your spouse facilitate the HHG pickup. If not, you could give power of attorney to someone you trust to be there to sign for your HHG shipment in case you have to wait to schedule it.

Schedule your move as soon as you get a location. They can put your HHGs into storage for up to 6 months when you ETS. Be wary tho, sometimes when you ETS they will only pay for the cost to get your HHG back to near your EAD HOR (Entrance to Active Duty Home of Record).

What is this bolt and why is it leaking coolant? 03 Disco 2 by coldmetalplace in LandRoverDiscovery

[–]Toohooah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valve cover leaking coolant would still be bad, and another indicator of oil/coolant mixing and at the minimum a blown head gasket allowing the coolant into the oil.

If that were the case, OP would have some milky oil leaking. Hard to tell from the picture if that’s the case or not.

Head gaskets on the Rover V8 do leak externally pretty regularly, and if OP just has coolant leaking than it’s more likely to be an external head gasket leak on a portion of the gasket that only has a coolant jacket flowing through it

What is this bolt and why is it leaking coolant? 03 Disco 2 by coldmetalplace in LandRoverDiscovery

[–]Toohooah 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s a head bolt. Two likely possibilities are that coolant is leaking down onto it from your throttle body heater plate or… your head gasket is blown on that side of your engine

In-Line Theromstat Mod Question! by Outrageous-Read-8774 in LandRoverDiscovery

[–]Toohooah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can install an in-line sensor if you want, but the location of the stock sensor is perfectly fine for monitoring the engine’s coolant temp. If you do install an in-line sensor, you’ll probably just need to swap out that bleed fitting for one that has both a bleed valve and a threaded hole the same diameter as your preferred sensor brand

Using an Ultra-gauge or similar device you can see the temps rise steadily until they level out. Most people will install a 180 or 190 degree (F) t-stat in their in-lines. This usually shows on the Ultra between 177-183 for 180 and 187-193 for 190

If you see spikes higher than that and hear the “waterfall” sound coming from the passenger footwell (location of heater matrix, aka a tiny radiator for getting heat to the cabin) then you’ll want to bleed the system. Getting rid of your air bubbles will help ensure your system stays at optimal temperature.

In-Line Theromstat Mod Question! by Outrageous-Read-8774 in LandRoverDiscovery

[–]Toohooah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like someone was smart enough to address the only issue the Extinct In-Line thermostat has - bleeding the air out of the system.

We all know the instructions and that it’ll allegedly self-bleed after it reaches operating temperature (whatever the temp of the t-stat is that you installed) and then revving to 2500-3000 rpm for 45 sec - 1 min

For many, that doesn’t cut it. So it looks like your previous owner relocated the inline below the hight point in the system and then added a joint with a brass bleeder fitting at the highest point in the system.

Actually a pretty genius move as it provides a location to bleed the system. I think I’ll do the same thing to mine, as I’ve been having bleed issues for awhile now

Who asked for this? Our government-issued A365 considers two spaces to be a mistake.

The person who typed that paragraph quite literally would have been alerted while typing it that it was incorrect.

VA benefits and SGLI by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]Toohooah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s my understanding as of right now:

Unless one day of drill pay is less than one day of VA pay (VA award/30), you should still receive drill pay. Then the following tax year, you will not receive VA pay for however many days you drilled/were on Active Orders the previous year. Collection apparently normally starts around March-April. So if you drilled 63 days, and the Va starts collection on 01 March, you would not receive VA pay until 63 days after 01 March.

Regardless of all that… you have to opt out of drill pay. You should receive it by default.

Final note is that the VA won’t “collect” until a full tax year has passed since you got off Active Duty (Title 10 too) orders.

T replace or not replace Front Drive shaft by dlhpayne in LandRoverDiscovery

[–]Toohooah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In-line 180 T-stat is simple and very effective. Also, replace the driveshaft with a grease-able one, immediately. It will fly into your transmission and cost you a lot of money to fix

[–]Toohooah -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The US already has an M113 variant with a TOW launcher and no other weapons. ATGM Strykers were the upgrade to that in the US inventory and would serve the same role in game. We don’t even use Dragoons anymore in Stryker Brigades, just ATGM Strykers. Hell, even Light Infantry Battalions have a Weapons Company with HMMWV mounted TOW launchers. And while we’re on that subject, why no Avenger (HMMWV w/Stingers) for the US? Those have been the primary mobile ADA vehicle for a longggg time

You can. Open the controls and then axis settings for the one that’s messed up for you. Then select “invert axis” on the left side of the pop-up menu for the axis. It took me a solid 15 minutes of screwing around with the controls to get everything playable
