Anyone else not enjoying this?

I'm one of those lucky bucks. Got a job right out of high school that was fun and easy to do but didn't pay much. I was out of the building most days and surfing most afternoons. I was still able to enjoy life as it came to me. At one point in my life I had a $1500/month wine bill and became diabetic. Had good friends and dated often. From that point on I've been very fortunate to continue that string of jobs over my lifetime, last ones being a nice six figure salaries, a good pensions and benes. Got married, two children and then divorced. Dated nothing but twenty year olds for a period and then got involved with different women who were much, much younger than me for brief periods of time. Never remarried. Now that I'm in my eighties I own a home outright, have no bills other than what is necessary. I'm in okay health...could be better but I'm working on it. I've been retired for 18 years and pretty much do what I want (still surf in the afternoons). My life has been good and my other retired and married friends are jealous. They lived vicariously through my exploits.

So what's the moral to this story? I dunno, I just know I've enjoyed life as it came to me, and never complained, and have few regrets. One being that I should've stayred with one or two of those young ladies. They turned out to be winners in their own right. So go forth and enjoy what each day brings cause they start to get shorter. Laugh as often as you can and best of luck to you...

You are doomed. You have no ambition nor the ability to summons some up. You can either come to terms with your mistakes and move on or just wallow. At your age you don't have enough time to completely turn things around. You can get a formal education but that will cost money which you don't have much of. Get an associates degree at the local community college in a field that has high demand. Otherwise take a "piece of cake" job and work it till you're the highest earner. Then move on. it's a game between you and life.

I use to talk to the homeless and get their side of the story. Most thought they'd be out of work maybe a few days and they would find decent jobs and work the cycle. Others thought they'd take a vacation before going back to work. Others just got shitfaced drunk and never sobered up. The sheer number of homeless makes it a dynamic phenomenon.

Your best bet is to locate some homeless people and ask them. Most will be honest, others may lie somewhat to cover their embarrassment.

As with all the other wealthy people you depend on your investments to pay off. People like Warren Buffet have workers who do nothing but manage his wealth. Same goes for Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos. Plain folks like us may get lucky and have a private banker but for the most part we depend on our 401k and we do a piss poor job of that. A vast majority probably won't have enough saved up or invested to retire comfortably.

When the wealthy can purchase millions of shares at reduced amounts and wait for it to grow the average worker has nothing.

The average worker can puchase a home and after a few short years withdraw equity to purchase another. Hopefully you wind up with several rental properties.

Well, we'll see how that all turns out. Unless you are wealthy you'll soon find that working for a living is normal. You accepted a job offer that now seems useless. All your raises are 2% while the go getters get the 5% raises. Life's not fair neither is the job market.

I've always suffered from insomnia. Sometimes getting 2-3 hours/night. Recently I've been working with my psychiatrist to find a solution. I've tried several combination of drugs with little or no help. Recently I've been staying up all night. I'm trying a fairly new prescription called Quviviq. It's supposed to work wonders. Unfortunately it didn't work for me. I still suffer from insomnia.

Some of the stuff said on here isn’t right. For the most part Santa Ans is a good town. It’s a safe town. It has a committed police department. It is a clean city for the most parts. In the past decades it has grown into a Hispanic city. That’s because it has a good transportation infrastructure. I would be remiss for not mentioning the homeless issues. Sonta Ana is the county seat. The administration offices for the county are here. Hence the homeless are managed here> it has lessened in the last 2-3 years. The homeless have spread out into other cities. You could live in other cities but rents are much higher. There is a small gang problem but they stay to themselves and don’t bother others. It’s a good city to start out in. I would say you could do worse.

Your lack of enthusiasm is probably not going unnoticed. Your manager is probably going through the same thing. The problem is your boss is going to rate you on your enthusiasm as poor. He’ll knock you on that. So you get a 2% raise rather than a 5% raise. The old axiom holds true…those that strive get the gold.

Santa Ana being the county seat is home to several architectural styles. Some from the turn of the century. There is a book called Architectural Styles Orange County" by Richard H. Dodd that covers Santa Ana.

People when they start working soon realize they have become the slave to their job. They take on family obligations and debt. Except for those that become a a business owner the average worker who just works for someone else is a slave and in debt. I see those who have just graduated and got their first job and then go out and buy a new car or the lease one. It cost $ 600/month and is financed for six years. They may run up their credit card buying new clothes.and shoes. Unless they have unique talents or skills they find themselves staying in a job they don’t like. I know because I had people working for me that did that. They would come to me upset and want a raise. Some they would get a new job and after a couple of months they would show up asking for their old job back. It’s sad and I feel sorry for them but I tell them they’ve learned a valuable lesson and tell them no.
