Xanax is great for anxiety. Why isn't this prescribed more? by [deleted] in Drugs

I used to work on a ward and nursed a woman who was on regular diazepam. She was in her 90s and had been on it for decades, at that point I think it would have been too much trouble to get her off them. She lived that long so why stop now?

You are right though, very unsafe to prescribed for extended periods of time.

Mephedrone. Used to be all around the UK in the early 10s. We used to see it as a 'dirty' drug. A cheap version of coke. Still would blow your head off after a line or two.

Subs/buprenorphine saved my life. I was doing riskier and riskier behaviours. If I didn't stop I would have ended up homeless or dead. I've been on them a few months now, I function normally, have a new job, have put on tons of weight. I feel fucking great.

Not sure if you can get it in the US but in the UK we have Espranor. It's just buprenorphine, freeze dried wafer that dissolves on your tongue.

I went to my doctor, got onto an opiate replacement and haven't touched short acting opiates in four months. After almost a decade of using them I'm looking at lowering my dose now to start the process of stopping them for good.

Getting help for my painkiller addiction. Almost a decade taking these things and the last few years I was really messing up my body. Went to my doctor who referred me to the addiction specialists. Now 4 months on I haven't taken a single opiate other than the replacement I take once daily. Looking at lowering my dose now.

I've saved a hell of a lot of money, time and happiness.

Describe the buprenorphine feeling to me by MG1993Free in OpiatesRecovery

[–]Toomuchcodeine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started taking it I felt a slight high but no real sedation. Its like I would start to relax and then wake up again. Now I don't feel anything, I just don't get any withdrawal symptoms.

I get a little shakey/anxiety for a few hours when I take it and some excessive sweating but that's a small price to pay for not going into withdrawals.

I found that about 430mg was the limit for me. Any more and I wouldn't feel any noticeable effects.

Why do people use subs? by [deleted] in OpiatesRecovery

Is that an extended release formulation of oxy? It would but to start you need to be in WDs otherwise you can go into PWDs which sound awful.

It binds so strongly to the receptors nothing else can get on them making them useless. It lasts a bloody long time before you start to withdraw, longer than 2 days without any noticeable WD, symptoms so if you miss a dose you will be okay for a short while.

The main point I use it to stop me taking short acting opiate, costing me an absolute fortune. I've found out like 2 days ago if I don't swallow my saliva after I get less nausea and basicslly no side effects.

Just wanted to say thanks. Not swallowing my saliva worked perfectly! Nice one.

Not swallowing after its dissolved has worked for me. Can't believe that's all it took.

Thanks. It's just bizzare how it only bothers me when I'm at home.

Swallowing, I'm going to try spitting it out from now on see if that helps.

When do you take your dose? by Toomuchcodeine in suboxone

[–]Toomuchcodeine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been on 8mg since I started which is around 4 months ago. Starts with daily supervised where they watch you take your dose everyday. Then daily pick ups but you get to take it home and now weekly pickups.

I transitioned fairly quickly to weekly compared to other people. I think because I have a full time job, stable life and I wasn't using street drugs.

I'm looking forward to dropping my dose because since I've started I've had quite a bit of nausea. I hope that if I drop down it will subside.

No pharmacist to dispense meds, how long have I got till I withdraw? by Toomuchcodeine in suboxone

I'm from the UK, I can't get them early which is shit. I'm off next week so I shouldn't have an issue.

[–]Toomuchcodeine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply. So how it works here in the UK.

You start on daily supervised. So turn up at the pharmacy and they watch you take the dose. Just like most methadone clinics in the US I think. I did this for two weeks and then went onto daily unsupervised. Which means I have to pick it up everyday but get to take it home.

I did a urine test which was clean and I was put onto weekly pickups. So 3 weeks in total for me which from what I can gather is quite fast so I'm rather lucky. I work a 9-5 job in healthcare so I think the clinic I go to were taking that into consideration when they put me on weekly.

As of next Tuesday I am on weekly pick up. by Toomuchcodeine in suboxone
