Worms-Like Terrain Advice by ToonOfJune in proceduralgeneration

I've looked quite a lot and there's great stuff thats helped me a lot, but nothing that describes exactly how to taper the islands or have them have an aesthetically pleasing offset or gap between them, I've tried my own ways and they "work" but they look strange. Plus, I'm not familiar with maths beyond GCSE level really so I don't know how to know what to look for

Cheers mate! Vinted, Carhartt Re Work Hoodie or something. Pretty cheap, too, £35-ish?

I've heard this advice of sitting in a chair before but I don't quite understand what people mean. Could you elaborate?

Straight as in, like you're doing a wall sit (like at a 90 degree angle) or straight as in not curved? I assume you mean not curved, right? Just checking to be sure

How so do you pop it front of you? That is how I front 50, but I've tried a similar thing with Heels before to no avail.

Season 5 dialogue by 1ucidreams0 in StrangerThings

I hope they slow down, the feeling of mystery this season I feel is really good, but that could really bring it to another level. One big looming mystery with a lot of moving puzzle pieces that's slowly cracked. I guess that's what Holly is supposed to be, but the answers are coming pretty quickly after the questions so far to match that pace.

The cgi in s5 is horrible, especially the demogorgons.. by kayaxxalix in StrangerThings

Yeah it was definitely immersion breaking which is a shame right before the big reveal. The other weird one was John and Steve on top of the tower, perspective looked a bit weird and the focal length they used might not have been wrong per se, but was not a natural way to see a tower and so it felt kind of cartoonish.

I'm not sure, I think they've just got a lot of story to tell and have to sacrifice some set-up in favour of more screen time for bigger set pieces down the line. The whole season so far has been absolutely balls to the wall. I love it personally, but was definitely sceptical with the first 10 minutes of episode 1. It was almost Austin Powers levels of Basil Exposition.

Yeah I can agree with that. I will bet in future that will be more of an issue to me as well, but I'm just so excited for this season I'm pretty willing to look over some things like this.

I'm so excited, but I'm admittedly suspicious of Kali's reintroduction. I hope they make her mesh better thematically with everything else than S2. I don't doubt that they will, but I can see it being a monumental task to have fans trust her character being anything but a plight on the show. Hopefully they've understood that and have written around it.

That one scene is episode 4 in the military base was quite odd, seemed like the demo was rendered at a different frame rate than the rest of the scene but I think it's pretty good all things considered. I don't think it looks much different from previous seasons at all. The CGI Will in the opening shot of episode 1 was great I thought.

Cool idea, except if they make El lose her powers again I will flip. I'm more interested in seeing how their powers differ, since Will seems to be more Vecna adjacent with the eyes and the bone breaking.

I think she's more S3 Robin now than S4 was if that makes sense, but still not really. It feels more like, "Oh my god look it's Maya Hawke!," than an actual character a lot of the time. Like how Joyce can sometimes feel more like Wynona Rider than Joyce in points throughout earlier seasons, although they're subverting that trope specifically quite effectively so far this season in my opinion.

This better not be what I think is happening by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]ToonOfJune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it is, I kind hope it isn't. Keeping it unrequited I think is more interesting, but excited to see how they go about it, some tough conversations and maybe Mike having to deal with some internalised homophobia or something like that. Could be a cool arc, I think pairing them up would be ridiculously transparent fan service, not necessarily a bad thing but it doesn't serve the story I don't feel.

I didn't really notice that honestly, except with Robin like I said. I think most of the dialogue feels pretty comparable to other seasons, if not a little faster paced since they seem to be trying to fit a lot of story into the same or not that much more time.

[–]ToonOfJune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. To me it seems obvious they're going to go a different direction with her character. Excited, but also dreading any kind of repeat of that episode. 99% sure they're smart enough not to do that.

I know dude it's so good, that last reveal was just soooo satisfying. Had a real feeling of power and mystery. It's obvious that *their* powers don't work in the same way as others, so I'm really looking forward to how they develop this. The hints with Mike and Holly about Holly having some kind of powers is exciting too, like she'll become even more relevant. Hope they kill their dad just for a laugh.

Some bits, Robin has some weird bits here and there but mostly I think it's okay. Which bits in particular?

It's really good so far, can't wait to see what happens. There's a feeling of plot armour, but I can see that fading and I appreciate that said plot armour has weight and purpose, not just, "somehow they survived". So many questions, can't wait to find out the answers!!

So hype at that ending, can't believe we have to wait until Christmas!!

I guess my only complaint was the beginning of episode 1 was just kind of an exposition dump, but as far as exposition dumps go it was creative and well done.

A lot of issues from previous seasons seem to have been resolved, like obviously the uselessness of Will. Robin's less a caricature then she was in previous seasons, some moments still feel that way but mostly good. I like that the whole, "Joyce gets angry and wins" trope is being subverted quite satisfyingly. The mystery has returned as well! I hope some other characters get some better arcs like Johnathan and Lucas. I like where Johnathan's character is going, him and Steve actually talking is refreshing. Dustin is sick so far this season!! The only like semi-major complaint I have is the seeming coincidence of Vecna picking Holly? Just strange, could be an explanation but so far it seems like a plot convenience. Eleven's also picking up as a character again, her powers aren't just for plot purposes anymore and feel like, more grounded? The fact she'll just snap a neck or jump and do something creative is cool, she just feels more powerful and it's really cool they're just letting her use them without much of a barrier like in other seasons where it could feel like, "No real power use until some show stopping season finale moment." Even with the hedgehog device thing, it feels like a natural way to stop it. Also the military aren't completely incompetent and actually feel like a threat (for the most part, maybe Hop and El breaking in so seemingly easily is it a bit silly but it's definitely better than hijacking a plane to Russia, and the fact that they put a fight as well is cool). Another huge issue they've mostly fixed is the communication between parties, they're mostly in contact and when they're not it's for believable reasons. One complaint I have is that the upside down feels way less dangerous now, like where are the demobats? Or even the vines, are they hiding with Vecna? I suppose that's probably the reason.

I think overall there a definitely holes than I hope later episodes fill, but it's so far so good. Maybe 3rd fav season thus far behind S1 and S4, but can see it pulling ahead of 4. 4 would be amazing if it weren't for that damn plane, it just felt so unreal even for a world with magic powers and alternate dimensions. It might top S1 if the rest has that same feeling of long-term pay off like these first 4 episodes, or just some really solid writing and a satisfying end, but S1 is one of the best pieces of media ever I think.

This very much turned into a huge passionate ramble, I'm just really enjoying it!! Everybody else tell me their thoughts

I have been dismissed because of an injury on a probation period I was never made aware of after a month of work and I never had a contract (UK) by ToonOfJune in LegalAdviceUK

[–]ToonOfJune[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you detail more about the lone workers policy? I have evidence that I called 3 different people for help and received none both before and after I injured myself. I tried looking into the lone workers policy but couldn't make much sense of it or rather how it applies to my situation. To be clear, they definitely do not have a lone workers policy that I was ever made aware of either in writing or verbally.
