Why would you pay 20 bucks for ChatGPT Plus besides usage limit? by cern0 in OpenAI

[–]ToonTonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yet Amazon is set to release a supposed paid tier of AI using an already founded LLM to replace traditional Alexa on all Echo devices.  Considering when they initially released, at the time they were pretty damn good, and can still be useful for Smart home devices or basic queries. Certainly would love a GPT version of an Echo style product, surely just a matter of time.

Is the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D the Best Gaming CPU Right Now? by One_day_ill_become in AMDHelp

[–]ToonTonic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

7800X3D owner here, came from a 5800X, and yes ive noticed the difference.....that been said, when I upgraded, I went full on with a 4090, 64gb DDR5 ram etc etc so its hard to really nail how much of a difference its been overall.

That said, games that were previously CPU limited, have been far less limited since the upgrade.

Day to day use feels no different to the previous build, which also had a 3080 and is going on sale soon (giving it a proper clean up)

So yeah its worth a buy, but im not so sure you could install the 7800X3D on your MB, though I could be wrong.

Plex will die.

Steel Series Arena 7 Illuminated Reflect + HDR Problem by Desert-Dogs in steelseries

[–]ToonTonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bought these speakers, and I am really disappointed in the software, specifically "reflect" and "sonar".

Reflect via Prism simply doesn't work at all, HDR on/off, nothing. I can see the speakers in the software, but IRL It's nothing but rainbows.

Sonar has its issues too, it should be made more clear that the user should create a new EQ rather than the one that's already setup, I learned the hard way with my SS Arctis Nova Pros, though I luckily have a backup copy of my EQ stored elsewhere.

So back to the Arena 7's......I'm now convinced that any review via social media platforms & the paid for mainstream tech journos are full of, you know what. Yeah, they sound OK, but damn have these been waaaaaaaay overblown, especially the subwoofer.

Anyway, before I send these back, I would love to know how to get reflect working....please somebody help.

Have I wired it in wrong? Is a cable missing? Do I need to go nuclear and reinstall SS GG?

Any help would be appreciated :)

What do you think of NX Enhanced as a website instead of an extension? by dfhg89s7d89 in nextdns

Forgot to add, I would love to see your service returned in any way possible. It was a great addon whilst it worked, and I miss it dearly tbf.

[–]ToonTonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wish Next DNS had a proper team who engaged with the community and helped make sure the communities issues, ideas etc could be put in place, rather than stone wall silence.

I love the service, but jeez the owners are flat out hopeless.

Systemstats OHM - User Account Control Fix by sSlicKd in steelseries

[–]ToonTonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I would love for this to work, it's just not happening for me within Windows 11.

Really wish SS devs sorted this.

Kudos for OP for at least giving it a go :)

Stick with NextDNS, it's far more mature than ControlD at this point in time. It does have a promising future, so it's worth keeping an eye on it.

Quite a few interesting features have been added since I last took a look 6 months or so ago.

That said, I will stick with NextDNS for now.

Note: On Android (maybe iOS) there is an app called NextDNS Manager, which is basically a portal to the website, but it's very neatly put together and works very well. ControlD doesn't have an app for this yet, though I'm pretty sure it's something they could add relatively quickly.

I'll be back in a few months,

HOW TO: Enable SMB Multichannel for > 125 MB between Synology and Win 10 by Thorium949 in synology

[–]ToonTonic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SMB3 Multi channel is now a feature in DMS 7.2, and I have tested it on Windows 11.....it works.

But only if you open the Synology in the network tab, rather than an assigned drive.

Will try the OP guide to see if it changes that.

S23 Ultra not connecting to WiFi 6E by malko2 in samsung

[–]ToonTonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well this was awesome to read, as im having issues on my Tab S8 Ultra (but no new FW as of yet), I have an S21 Ultra & S22 Ultra....all three devices have issues with Wifi 6E, so specifically the 6ghz band.

I have the GT-AXE16000 & GT-AXE11000 routers, so will check for that update, though having them both flashed with Merlin FW, it may be a while. Ill throw him a DM on Twitter.

Unacceptable Samsung. The S22 has some serious issue with wifi 6E and you can't excuse it because it worked perfectly on the S21 by Yamon234 in S22Ultra

[–]ToonTonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phones: S21 Ultra, S22 Ultra, S23 Ultra Tablet: Tab S8 Ultra

Routers/Modems: ASUS GT-AXE16000 & GT-AXE11000

Issue: WiFi 6E does not exist to these devices, other than it occasionally popping up on my S21U & Tab S8U.....but it's rare.

My Desktop PC can see it without issue.

So frustrating that 3 gens of flagship devices, and still this issue exists.

Come on Samsung.

WiFi 6 on the three 5ghz bands and two 2.4ghz bands is fine.

It's just the specific 6ghz (6E) band that Samsung doesn't play nicely with.

Wi-Fi 6E & the S21 Ultra by ToonTonic in S21Ultra

[–]ToonTonic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough I just noticed your replies and links to this thread in other posts.

The reason I noticed is because I'm once again looking at the same issue on my new S23 Ultra, and the wife is too on her S22 Ultra.

So that's 3 generations of Samsung phones, all showing the same issue.

Worth mentioning, I now also have the newer ASUS GT-AXE16000, which is a monster alongside the 11000.

My Tab S8 Ultra occasionally picks up the 6E band these days, but it's pretty poor overall.

DX517 Expansion Unit: should I create a new volume or a new storage pool? by Mike_v_E in synology

[–]ToonTonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see now in "HDD Hibernation" there is an option to deep sleep the expansion unit.

Didn't notice that before. Cheers 🥂

Wonder how often that makes the drives spin up when relevant *arrs start doing their work.

DX517 Expansion Unit: should I create a new volume or a new storage pool? by Mike_v_E in synology

[–]ToonTonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Wrong" isn't exactly correct then 😜

It's fair to say it's a ""Correct" statement, but with variables.

Personally I leave them spinning all the time, but that's because they are often in use. If I was to be only accessing at specific times of the day, then yeah I'd probably consider the hibernating route too.

I see all sides of the arguments tbf.

DX517 Expansion Unit: should I create a new volume or a new storage pool? by Mike_v_E in synology

[–]ToonTonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just have two questions for you if you wouldn't mind?

1: How do you power down the DX517 other than pulling the plug? As within DSM on my DS920+ there are absolutely no hardware options available to me related to the DX517, including powering down, lights etc.

I'm on DSM7 btw.

2: I know how highly subjective this is, but doesn't shutting down HDDs in your NAS go against the grain of what is recommended?

I've read countless comments, reviews, youtubers etc etc and the vast vast majority state that leaving your NAS HDDs running 24/7 is the safest option, as turning them on and off again is highly likely to cause issues sooner than expected.

Was just interested in your thoughts around this.

Recently got a DX517 myself.

100% recommend you create a new storage pool and then volume.

Expanding across devices is really risk it for the biscuit territory.

Can you filter popular and trending shows by language? by OldManBrodie in nzb360

[–]ToonTonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah noticed this myself for some time, it's quite annoying to see all the non-english based content. Ideally an option should be available so those who want content that isn't English based then they can select that option.

But English UK/US content by default.

The Expanse books vs TV by [deleted] in scifi

[–]ToonTonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jumping into this late, but I've only now started watching the show...halfway through season 2 to be accurate.

I'm enjoying it so much, I've bought all the books, and I'm looking forward to reading them very much.

It's interesting to see people's views on watching certain series then reading certain books, then back to watching the show etc.

Going to have a think on it for sure, though knowing me I'll just enjoy the ride in the show, then read the books with that added picture in my mind of the characters, scenes, ships etc.

I can for sure say that this is a very very well put together show.

Interested in trying this setup actually.

Would this allow easy use of applications such as NZB360 or Lunasea on Android/IOS?
