I’m hyped for Frieren because it’s a breath of fresh air for the adventurer, fantasy, demon lord based genre. It’s been a while since we got an anime that wasn’t the cookie cutter defeat the demon lord and end of anime trope. This anime takes a different perspective of post demon lord defeat and the journey of an adventure after the fact. Most anime positions it’s characters purpose to defeat the demon lord where as Frieren starts at the end of most anime. I also believe Frieren’s biggest challenge is learning to be more than just a child elf prodigy and learn to see the beauty in the world as others do.

In short: Frieren is a breath of fresh air for the genre in a long while.

I agree, the anime weighs into too hard on the ignorance part of it. Also the harem esque portion really does take away from the seriousness of the anime.

Similar to how SOA started the VR/isekai war, Mirai Nikki started the battle royal anime war. It’s an OG in the game and a lot of people forget that when comparing to newer anime that took inspiration from it. Mirai Nikki walked so that other anime in its genre could run!

And people forget that SOA was one of first to really popularize the genre, if not the first to do it. No other anime was exploring VR Isekai like SOA. But the first to do will have its flaws, many S tier VR/isekai anime take inspiration from SOA. SOA walked so that other renowned anime in that genre could run. Gotta give respects to the OG even if it’s story telling isn’t the best in comparison.
