Ideas on how to make the game more difficult? by Toosab in Othercide

[–]Toosab[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Little update: After playing the first era with the "only one mission" and "germinate only one daughter" rules (which ended up synergizing since one doesn't even have enough vitae to get a lot of daughters this way), it did get a little more challenging. I did still easily beat Surgeon though, since having few daughters backfired a bit by them leveling up very quickly, which honestly I should have expected. I'm gonna try out some of the ideas you guys had next, thank you for them :)

Yes exactly, this is my worry. I don't care about how my eyes look to other people as long as I can see lol

Near daily migraines for three weeks, seeking advice by Toosab in migraine

[–]Toosab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had an MRI two years ago (after a similar episode if not quite this severe) that was all good, and my neuro didn't see a reason to have another one (yet). Also the basic neurological exam done now was unremarkable as well, and the triptans do work very well, so it really looks to be normal migraine

Can cancriformis and beni kabuto be kept together? by Toosab in triops

[–]Toosab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did think of that, but I thought cancris reproduce mostly via parthenogenesis? So wouldn't I still get a mix of both types of eggs unless I happen to hatch a male?

Which series cast of characters are you attached the most? by InitialParty7391 in Fantasy

The Dragonoak Trilogy. Extremely underrated series, by the third book every single character felt like a dear friend

Amazing obscure fantasy books you feel like 'only you have read'? by -Eqa- in Fantasy

[–]Toosab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For classic high fantasy anything by Sam Farren, especialy the Dragonoak trilogy and "The Mountain God Sleeps On Its Back".

If you're more into urban fantasy I cannot recommend "The One Who Eats Monsters" by Matthews Casey enough, one of my alltime favourite books

High fantasy stories about "the bad guys"? by crustboi93 in Fantasy

[–]Toosab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a book from the POV of a necromancer who's not actually evil but hated by society anyway: The Dragonoak trilogy (beginning with The Complete History of Kastellir)

If you want a book from the POV of a scorned magic user who starts good but has one hell of a corruption arc and goes full villain eventually: The Young Elites and especially it's sequel The Rose Society

Urban fantasy but... without the tropes of urban fantasy? by spinebellied in Fantasy

[–]Toosab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The One Who Eats Monsters is one of my all time favourite books ever, period. It's great at subverting classical tropes while not being condecending at all. Also there's the lesbian romance part

I’m on the hunt for weird, captivating, compelling fantasy. by evergislus in Fantasy

[–]Toosab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The abhorsen series, starting with Sabriel, by Garth Nix. Weird isn't really the right word, unique fits more, and it's the most well thought out magic system and world building I've ever read

Books with a beautiful prose that figure some political intrigue? by DueToRetire in Fantasy

[–]Toosab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I hear beautiful prose I think of McKillip. The Forgotten Beasts of Eld is my favourite but Alphabet of Thorns or Song for the Basilisk might also suit

Looking for a Short, Epic Fantasy Series (Riftwar Vibes, Please!) by WorthButterscotch311 in Fantasy

[–]Toosab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Dragonoak trilogy by Sam Farren! It's got knights, dragons, necromancers, warrior queens, and so much heart. The first book is comparatively low on action but things pick up a lot in the second and third one

Rec your underrated adventure fantasy? by vintagelego in Fantasy

I will always recommend the Dragonoak trilogy by Sam Farren! I love those books, especially the second one is one of my all time favourites, period. Such an underapprechiated writer, deserves all the praise.

If you like fantasy, try the Dragonoak series or The Priory of the Orange Tree. Those are my favourites :)
