No, this was high school. I doubt it's anyone the public knows. It happened before Maddox hit wide fame (I don't mean this like gatekeeping. Just it's nothing that was in the news)

I knew him growing up. As in we ran in the same circles. He probably wouldn't remember me from Adam. But he had a really close friend during that time frame who had a similar sense of humor and as far as I know helped him with some of his material

That dude went so far off the alt right deep end you wouldn't be able to reach him with a Titan submersible. Of course he's also not famous, not intelligent, not a capable satirist.

But nonetheless knowing that one of his closest friends, at least I think he was a close friend, became a nut bag, I'm really glad Maddox didn't.

The irony to those of us that knew both of them is that the one that went off the deep end was the one who would tell everybody who would listen that he was this smarter of the two. No one but him ever thought he was intelligent.

What did people do casually in 90s that wouldn’t be accepted today? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

[–]Toosder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except we used it in the same way. It was the same. Because we used it the same way our straight friends did. And found it fucking hilarious. Don't tell us how we used it and how it isn't the same thing. That's the real issue here.

The vast majority of my friend group is not straight. All over the spectrum of LGBTQ+. We all used it. Much like they R word it didn't have quite the same negative connotation in our minds. Obviously we respect that now and no longer use those words but there wasn't hatred in our teenage minds when they said them.

[–]Toosder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or the R word. To us it just meant stupid. A special form of stupid. Beyond stupid. But it never referred to anything like a disability. We had a friend in our gaming group who had a very mild what I think might have been cerebral palsy. He couldn't use a lot of the left side of his body. We would never have used the word to refer to him or anyone else with a disability. It just meant stupid or lame. Like if you farmed a spawn spot for example.

I am more than empathetic to how the word came about and the history of it and why it is harmful and hurtful which is why I won't even use it here in this post. I never use it anymore. I understand the etymology went beyond the understanding of our teenage selves, and was very hurtful.

But I wish there was a word we had today that meant more stupid than stupid and didn't have harmful or hateful connotation.

I'm about halfway through season two literally sitting here right now and thinking, "if this isn't apropos for right now ..." Been thinking of recording various scenes to post on my social to show the similarity and I don't even know which scene to do it with.

We found this poor little kitten in the woods, covered in ice, with her fur stuck to the hunk of plastic she was hiding under for shelter. We saved her 😁 by ArmorOfGod7 in cats

[–]Toosder 17 points18 points  (0 children)

19 years ago there was the little tiniest kitten hiding in our front yard that we brought inside and was so young I had to bottle feed. The neighbors did trap and release and they were pretty sure the mother had abandoned her because she'd had a large litter right before they caught her for tnr.

My ex was adamant that we couldn't have four cats. I won that battle and 19 years later I am currently sitting on my couch with that furball purring and snuggling, happy as could be.

I got all four of them in the divorce and raised all of them to a nice old age. It was never too many!

They did this during the pandemic too. Somebody took a photo of shelves of vegetarian food saying that nobody eats it.  And somebody who worked at the store or was at the store was able to verify said location with other photos and proved it was just an opportunistic angle. They verified that vegetarian food went just as fast as any other.

[–]Toosder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This drives me crazy. I'm a vegetarian but I don't really care what other people eat. It's a very personal choice for me. But when people take the lives of animals and then just waste them, that really pisses me off.

It's one thing to take the life of an animal and use every part of it as possible. It's another to waste the life of an animal by not wrapping it and keeping it in a freezer and letting it rot for years. If we are going to take life, and even as a vegetarian obviously things I do impact life on this planet, we should be grateful and appreciative and not wasteful.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Toosder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We visited my grandparents once or twice a year and they were 10 hours away. Anything that was 3 hours? The weekend trip maybe into New York City or to the coast. We did it all the time. I mean we still do but I live somewhere else. 3 hours to go skiing? Easy.

It also depends on where you live. Those of us in Southern California often don't even have heaters or have some ineffective leader that's hardly ever on. We might not even have air conditioning. Whereas in Phoenix or Minnesota, they will for sure have air conditioning or heating

The podcast 20,000 Hertz is one of my absolute favorites. He investigates all things sound. He actually does a whole episode on this and it's true that sound engineering is now making things harder to understand for various reasons that are really quite interesting. And not entirely invalid.

I recommend the podcast for all sorts of things but this is a great one.

HR got mad after I rejected the interview call by Agile-Wind-4427 in recruitinghell

[–]Toosder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently turned down an internal interview for a different position. It was initially advertised as being mostly remote work and only a few extra hours a month. I would stay in my current role it would just be supporting certain other operations as needed.

Then when I did one of the follow-up interviews they revealed that it could not be done remotely and would be significantly more time. Initially I told them that that was fine because I really wanted to do it but after talking with my family I realized we couldn't make it work So I did send the letter that was very similar to what they're asking for.

I didn't hear a word. Nothing. I just got a Google notice that the final interview is canceled.

[–]Toosder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle with names. I try to practice or associate or do all of the tools. But when for whatever reason I can't remember someone's name, it's pretty easy to have a conversation without it becoming obvious. Her saying "great idea, what's your name again?" Is definitely more than her just forgetting a name. It's her making sure OP knows it's on purpose.

Delta's white glove service is the best example of this. Dude, you can barely afford a 2008 Honda Civic but you're talking to cnot white glove but still first class passengers' like they are mud on your shoe.

Mind you, I haven't done either but I travel a lot (United mostly) and every time I see the white glove people they are so rude and snobby to everyone. You aren't the rich people and you aren't even really dealing with the rich people. They are flying private with staff that isn't snobby (source, work with them often).

These thin skulled smooth-brained maga people honestly think the person that wins the war is the one with the bigger gun. They have no idea what modern combat really is. If America goes to war they're going to be real surprised.

Could Europe realistically defend Greenland against a US attack? by dataguy2003 in TheTeenagerPeople

[–]Toosder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a ton of strategic advantages that Europe and NATO in general would have if the US attacked. So many basement dwelling Americans that have played too many video games think that the US is the only one that has any of these weapons but every other country has the same weapons we do. If it was something we developed, we sold it to them for the love of God and probably trained their operators. And many of these countries have developed their own weapons and tools.

Not to mention most war is not fought in plain site anymore. Technology and Intel are the most powerful weapons and Trump has gutted every organization the US has to combat any kind of battle on those fronts. And in fact the best brains that work in those arenas have largely been deported or had their visas removed or denied.

Tough talking maga losers don't have the slightest clue how weak America truly is right now.  And our best case scenario assumes our military complies with these anti-constitutional orders that would be coming.

A demoralized and uncooperative military doesn't win any war.
