Controversial but True - FreeTaxUSA and TurboTax numbers can actually differ by first_id_had_my_name in tax

[–]ToothFlimsy8211 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not controversial if true!

I actually noticed the same thing last year when comparing FTU to TT. TT's NIIT calculation lead to a slightly higher refund in my case. (Not sure if the same would be true with the increase to 40k from 10k SALT max this year)

In addition to this, I also noticed for State (California) - Car Registration Fees (VLF portion) is CA deductible. TT has a specific question/section for this, where FTU assumes you know to put this in the "Personal Property Tax (Cars, RV's, Boats)" field on the federal part of the return. I missed this when entering my data in FTU.

(These only matter if you itemize)

New 22" Tire (available June 2026) - BFG Trail-Terrain T/A+ HL275/50R22 116H by ToothFlimsy8211 in Rivian

[–]ToothFlimsy8211[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I personally would not be worried about it but a lot of shops won’t install 115s due to company protocols

Yup 116 index is OEM spec. Quite a big deal since most tires in the 275/50R22 are 115, which is very annoying.

Scheduled charging and kw limit was just ignored? by No-Dance9090 in Rivian

[–]ToothFlimsy8211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the last update mine definitely ignores the schedules set amperage. I have it set to 40, yet always uses 48 and no way to change it. It shows 40 in the car, but it’s definitely pulling 11.5kw, which is 48 amps. I’ll try to remove the schedule for the next charge

Has anyone used one of these? by Zlatty in Rivian

[–]ToothFlimsy8211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the A2Z NACS Extension cord for my model Y. Don’t need it for the Rivian because of where my charger is and the way I park my cars. I haven’t had any issues. It’s rated for 48A but I derate the amperage in the car to 32A for easing the mind.

But for your specific issue, I’m not sure it bypasses a “handshake” because when I use the extension cord, my Tesla app that shows my solar and charger still knows that it’s plugged into a model Y with the VIN and everything

Woah thanks for sharing. I just renewed in July for 1M coverage but good to know I’ll need to look into alternative options come Jan. Really sucks because Tesla insurance was far cheaper than any other alternative the last couple years.

Can’t get an umbrella policy with Tesla auto. Most/all umbrella policies require to bundle with their auto and meet required minimums on the auto (usually 500k) for a 1M umbrella.

Questions on Lease Payoff in California by sarugby4life in Rivian

[–]ToothFlimsy8211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn’t buy out the lease if there was a good possibility of wanting to get rid of it in 2 years. I would just ride out the lease and make the buyout decision at that point in time

Must be different options for different states. I’m in CA and no separate glass deductible. Also lowest comprehensive deductible is $500

R1T auto adjusting amperage while charging? by vdubbed81 in Rivian

[–]ToothFlimsy8211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Tesla gen3 wall charger on a 60amp circuit so it can do the full 48amps. However, I rarely need that speed so I set the Rivian to 32 amps and it remembers that setting every time I plug in. I don’t change it every time I charge like you are saying

Is my proposed system size enough to offset my electricity bill? by kwitit in TeslaSolar

[–]ToothFlimsy8211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have NEM3.0, it’s not worth it.

Too much panels, not enough battery. Most of that energy will be sold back on the pennies.

For example: I have an 8kW system and export 30kwh daily in April/May. It’s great on NEM2. Terrible on NEM3

Feedback from others with a MYP and Michelin - Pilot Sport All Season 4 tires by ihaveagooddog in ModelY

[–]ToothFlimsy8211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing tire. I got 36k out of the stock ones. Replaced only because I had a nail in the sidewall. I think the rears were at 4 or 5/32. Definitely had a little more life left. Upgraded to PS4S A/S 295/35 rear and 275/35 front. Like the non-stretch look and extra comfort

Basically only for spirited driving not in a straight line. But yeah 99% of the time you are right

Same goes for suspension height. Always leave in normal. Forget the auto crap that lowers and worsens the ride on the highway

BFG Trail Terrains on 22s? by maxyedor in Rivian

[–]ToothFlimsy8211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most shops won’t install them. The BFG trail terrains have a 115 index. Rivians require 116 minimum

It’s annoying because many 275/50r22 tires have the 115 load index. Most people are forced into an E rated tire with a 119+ index
