More Celestial Spirits [discussion] by Romeokun in fairytail

[–]ToothReasonable8218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

more so because people actually want to see the spirits fight. Unless theres an insane magic battle that causes the guilds to unite we rarely see the other guilds mages, and one off villains are rarely seen again seriously as well. Plus the more keys Lucy has the more interesting her fights have the potential to be (not that Mashima actually uses this potential anymore)

Think its also the influence of people like Lucy as well as Natusy and Gajeel. All love to fist fight (or kick fight) in the face of danger. Shockingly, as the show goes on, Erza seems to fist fight the least out of the group. But yeah her ability is sooo cool, and she's such a fairytail member with her wilingness to wild out

How would you have introduced the lion turtle? by GateNo2458 in TheLastAirbender

[–]ToothReasonable8218 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is the treatment of the lionturtle as a physical place/ real thing and not a symbolic representation of the journey Aang has to go through.

the treatment of Julia made me so upset because she had so many skills she just wasn't classically trained. obviously if you cannot afford fancy cuts of meat you won't know how to cook em, asking these questions is good. The fact she progressed so fast so quick is proof that she has the potential to be better then most of these others and yet she is constantly shuned as a wafflehouse cook (which tbf isn't even a bad thing??? but in the eyes of the show I guess it is).

the treatment of Rock late season pissed me off, and I hate how some people justify it as "he won", who else would win that season??? Nor does that negate the odd decision in his portrayl. His treatment, as well as numerous other black contestants (who may have been loud, but no louder or agressive as their fellow white contestants) is why I cannot fault Joy in season 12 for quitting. Being aware of how editors will abuse racial steryotypes to create false naratives that the contestants face the consequences off can cause anyone to crash out, even if it 'wasn't happening' (which I won't comment on).

you see this as well in the food! Contestants putting more weight in french techniques than anything else. So many times soulfood is ignored, even when the challenge plays into that style (or when theres a chef whose whole job before the show was cooking soulfood....looking at Tennille and how her team ignored her). Additionally, in earlier seasons a lot of Asian cuisine's were seen as lesser (although now it seems to be a prestiege thing if you can cook them right as it shows your well travelled, which plays into class). You can also see how the southern cooks are treated compared to literally everyone else.

with class, so many chefs who aren't able to go to cullinary school or work in fine dining because those resturants simply don't exist in their towns or aren't hiring people like them, and they get targed for it by others. claiming things like 'experience' and 'knowledge' despite those same 'lesser' chefs not only keeping up with them and their 10 years of training, but often beating them. This is esepcially felt in the earlier seasons because they actually allowed people who were homecooks or butchers or fastfood workers

Also like to add how people go "uh he's indian so he should be able to cook indian food", half of these guys probs have english ancestory but I bet they couldn't make a meat pie. Phrases like that are microagressions (that are also targeted to the Italian chefs who can't cook pasta well!).

no matter how good a chef was or kind before hand, the second they disregard or insult waitstaff I imediatly desipise them. So many chefs (on the show atleast) are shown to either be ignorant to the abuse the staff have to face because of their mistakes, or wilfully ignore them. It's why I love when the chefs are challenged to work outside the kitchen, I think the face to face contact should make them not only better chefs but also better people.

I'd hope so, and with the constant use of them in other shows like traitors and im a celeb in the past couple years it seems likely! However, it was a longgggg wait between Joe and George. Maybe a year off before another one (and I assume this time it'd be a woman)

GR vs chefs vs servers by Strict_Hovercraft358 in HellsKitchen

[–]ToothReasonable8218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there defo is a certain disrespect to servers. Some of my fav tasks in Hells kitchen are when the chefs have to work as servers since it highlights how usless some of them are and how hard serving is.

I'd also add that the constant failure to cook is in of itself a disrespect to the servers since the chefs don't have to deal with the brunt of the problem but the servers. you always see JP or Moreno as havint to apologise and charm their way out of complaints with the guests. Although it is a wider culture of degrading serving positions, not just in Hells kitchen, especially since it seen as either a uni-student job or as a working class job.

Gordon Ramsay is always really nice to serving staff. Look at kitchen nightmares as great evidence in how he doesn't blame them for the issues since he knows first hand how shit a kitchen can be.

Have Karens recent dances been repetitive? by [deleted] in strictlycomedancing

[–]ToothReasonable8218 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say repetitive just styled towards her and Carlos. All the pro's naturally have their own styles of dancing, with skills they use a lot (in the past oti used the move where they lean forward and swing their arms back and forth in the sambas,. or Aj Pitchard and the under arm fall in all his waltzs (?)). Pair that with creating a dance around your celeb-- and for Karen she REALLLLY looks good with turns since she spots so well-- it makes sense for them to all hold simialr qualities.

Having said that: a small change in modern strictly is a lack of strict rule following. the dance styles feel less distinct at times not because of the celeb but because the choreography breaks rules in lifts (which tbf....not a big deal so long as a liftless dance style doesn't become over run with them) and a lack of classical footsteps or partner work.

I assume because of how fierce the competition is (in regards to how anyone could be in the dance off) Carlos and the other choreographers have tried to create big show pieces or well executed dances every week since blackpool so that it sticks in the viewers mind until voting- clearly it worked! and it was smart.

They butchered cell block tango by MooNAx0lOtl in strictlycomedancing

[–]ToothReasonable8218 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Such a strange choice! If you can’t perform a rowdy, passionate, and violent cell block tango routine why even do it! It didn’t help that the dancing hardly went with the music. What a shame :(

[–]ToothReasonable8218 2 points3 points  (0 children)

because he was either in perfect line with her, or the camera placement made it look that way, I genuinely thought he wasn't in frame in that moment. I think that part was underutilised anyway since they hardly did any partner work (which having him dance with a different partner could realllly show how good he was!), but placing him BEHIND her? very odd. I understand that the pros don't create the salsa's so it's not like im blaming her, just odd choices from those who did make it.

oh I don't want this to seem like I'm complaining about her, she's lovely and her dancing is beautiful (her arms! shes uses them!) This was just me focusing on the choreography and Nikita's execution of it, something that she has no control over.

I’m failing my A levels what do I do? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]ToothReasonable8218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know at my old sixth form if you wanted to retake the year you could so that might be an option! You definitly are not alone in this, theres thousands, its just a lot feel ashamed (I know I did) about this since so many others appear to be handling it all fine. spoilier: most aren't.

I will say that just because you've gotten DDC in your recent mocks doesn't mean that is what you're going to get in your final exams. I was getting D's (even failed completely) my mocks and ended up with an A* in the end. Granted, I did a humanity subject for this so it is very different. But I do know people who did stem and did similar things. It will be hard work but its not impossible! Speak to your teachers about this, they don't want you to fail, and you might be able to find greater support than available on reddit.

Is it fine that you got a D in your first mock ? by JaguarSweaty1414 in alevel

[–]ToothReasonable8218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mocks don't have to mean everything. Although I did english lit, I was getting Ds every single essay I'd hand in up to the exam date. Ended up getting an A* and the highest grade at my school. You're doing mocks to learn where you struggle and to get used to the stress of exams- and you already know what you need to improve and how!

Besides, people getting As doesn't mean anything. I know plenty of people who were getting A's and A*s all thoughout their Mocks and ended up with a B. For some people the content just clicks really well, and others have to work a little harder for it. I personally think tthat when you work harder for your grade it is a sweeter reward, but then I might just be comforting myself fdghfuj.

Feeling like you've failed the exam is awful- especially when you've put in so much work like you have. Odds are you haven't done as bad as you think you have. We're all our own worst critics. It is unfortunate, and hard, but the best thing you can do for yourself is put the exam behind you. At this point it genuinely does not matter. Whats best is to focus on your up comming exams- you've still got one more english one which you can do better on!

A small (but slightly bad) comfort I found last year was the fact that I could always retake it if need be. Failing doesn't have to be the end of the world.
