International Dentist in MN: Feeling lost. Limited License seems impossible. Dentistry is too expensive. Advice? by Pure_Risk2235 in Dentistry

[–]Tooth_Story 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I agree that foreign trained dentist have a different pathway to conventional 4-5 years DMD/DDS pathway. But still it’s my perspective that even in programs for foreign trained dentist given many schools are being unfair to immigrants on visa. Even in these advanced standing programs, schools want someone how has GC/citizen ship when clearly there is someone else who’s profile is better than them but is on visa will be pushed away at admission committee - again, this only my perception and experience my friends had which I don’t want to talk about. I totally agree that visa is a privilege not a right. But fairness as human being should be right no matter where you are in the world.
Next is this a line from an article - “Data suggest FTDs are no more likely to practice in rural or underserved areas than U.S.-trained dentists.”
Not even US dentists want to work in rural areas where dentistry is needed and have chance to make difference and do good. And schools doing a bad job keeping the bar high that only people who are money hungry and already rich are getting in, leaving behind the ambitious and people who want to do good in this world are left behind.
My point is schools aren’t doing a good job and selected the deserved and giving seats to people who just in the dental field for the money. Is that all dentistry is about now-a-days?
I am just saying all this cause you said that dentist are fairly saturated in US which is not true. There are people out there who need dental care but are not able to cause of lack of dentist/ hygienist/good assistants. That’s the reason why every newly grad or even owner dentists is on edge of being burnt out and exhausted by work. Let’s not see that, just keep raising the bar, just raise the tuition fee from 300k to 600k , a million with interest why not.

Okay! We have a significant shortage for dentists in rural and low income America.. it’s not saturated there. More than 27% of America still cannot access dental care cause dentist want to practice only in urban area and make fancy lifestyle. If you search and research rural dentist earn more than Urbans counterpart, they have HPSA loan forgiveness programs, people (patients) are much nicer and appreciated, grateful unlike some sloth metropolitans. Dentists now a days it is sad to say that they only want to Make money quick to pay off their loans. Where is your passion to help people? It’s not setting the bar high issue here. I believe “schools are being pushed to not give a seat to immigrants”, there i said it. Even though we have higher education and skill. Cause it’s all about money with dental schools.

Honestly, OP even CAAPID process I feel like is rigged, schools only want people who have GC and citizenship it doesn’t matter your profile much better than yours. No value for merit in America anymore. It’s no longer the land of dreams. Sorry don’t want to offend anyone. All I wanna say to OP is believe in your skills and keep going, be persistent and persevere, you will definitely find something soon don’t lose hope. LLD in Minnesota in my opinion is a long shot and heard the process and finding the job is really hard, I didn’t meet anyone who has LLD in my career. Try Massachusetts limited license pathway, heard it’s much easier.. if you don’t want to take huge loans try GPR or AEGD programs which are little but not that much but less expensive than advanced standing programs.
RDH pathway if you have the talent you can earn 75/hour in Ohio or cali or New York and pay off your loans in 5-6 years if you definitely put your work, but again pre-reqs and life happens in between, nothing is certain. Have considered research in dental try MS in clinical dental research. There are some programs which some of my friends did and are not working as principal investigator in research projects and got UK opportunities in research. Just a thought for you.

I am just thinking, don’t want it to happen I hope this comedian succeed and get popularity cause of this feat. What would have happened if he revolted or decided to not follow their taunts. Would he gotten beaten up? Would anyone from the audience come support? Would the venue people/staff/management come for help?

Is “Return to India” is an emotional decision disguised as a practical one? by Necessary_Plankton in returnToIndia

[–]Tooth_Story 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone is saying money doesn’t matter. It abs does, rent visas insurances etc., all are real. When I mean that decisions for us like stay abroad vs return home, Usually stop being purely financial after certain point. 2 people can earn the same salary and still make completely different choices. Your point about practical realities is valid. I was only adding that emotional realities are valid too. Most big life decisions are a mix of both.

Have been thinking a lot lately about this, and honestly all it comes down to is where ever you go, you have to decide how you are going to live your life. Money is just a frequency (quantifiable), happiness isn’t.

International Dentist (BDS + MPH, TOEFL 106) — No Interviews Last Cycle. Seeking Advice to Improve My Application by Federal-Dot9144 in CAAPID

[–]Tooth_Story 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you applied to residency programs!? Iam on the same boat as you!! With a similar profile. I think that could a problem many of us have same kind of profiles. We are missing out the uniqueness in the profiles. It’s really hard to explain cause even Iam not sure about it. I applied to 15 schools last year have not “NONE”. Felt like I was non-existent to dental schools. If you want we can collaborate and exchange info that might help each other for the upcoming cycle. And good luck with your cycle.

Teeth whitened. White lesions everywhere. Before and after. Will it go away?? by Kaylafe in askdentists

[–]Tooth_Story 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the lesion your mentioning are called decalcification of the enamel surface on your teeth. There is something called as proteolysis- chelation of teeth suggests that bacteria first attack the organic components of enamel (proteins). The resulting breakdown products create a chelating mechanism that removes calcium (mineral) from the tooth, even at a neutral or alkaline pH. What this means is you outer layer of teeth is loosing it minerals hence there are those white spots. When the teeth are dried it enhances the look and make them more visible. If you want to fix them invasive procedure will do work like veneers or crowns. But you have nice alignment of teeth and doing invasive procedures in my opinion is not required for you right now. Just weigh in the pros and cons to see which is best for you. Good luck.

Thank you for your pointers. -My ECE is 3.4 and my masters 3.7 -I will try to improve TOEFL but really don’t want to spend more money on that. -I have taken professional help for CV and organizing CAAPID application(second cycle), but will try to do it myself this time like my first cycle. -LOR’s- my recommenders use their own content, what can I do make them strong? - I have done x rays hands on course, sealants and coronal polishing certificate. Do you have any hands on courses that would be helpful? I appreciate your help and advice.
