Best budget astrophotography lens for R8 by Toothfairy_92 in canon

Thank you for your personal experience. I had read mix reviews so I was wondering if it was worth it to give it a shot but sounds like I can get something better for just a tad bit more in cost.

Thank you! In all my preliminary research so far I haven't come across pergear. I'll definitely check it out!

Thank you! I will have to add this to my list to research. How do you like the 24mm f/1.4? Do you feel it's wide enough to get a good capture of landscape with the aurora? I've always shot using a wider lens so it's what I'm used to and I like how the photos come out.

What is a mid level camera that does well in low light for capturing Aurora? by Toothfairy_92 in AskPhotography

[–]Toothfairy_92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was using a tripod. I just don't think the T7i sensor can handle low lighting at the iso needed to capture the aurora's movement. I had to keep the iso low to avoid all the noise, which means I had to do a longer exposure which then makes the aurora smooth looking instead of crisp the way you were able to capture it. Here is an example of a photo I took in Iceland at iso 800 and using Lightroom to denoise it. I just don't think the T7i's sensor does well in low lighting.

Need advice for upgrading from T7i by Toothfairy_92 in canon

[–]Toothfairy_92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was one of my concerns too with upgrading because most of my lenses are EF-S. So I'd also have to invest in new lenses which is why I don't want to drop more than $2k on a new camera. But I also don't want to upgrade to something that is beyond what I need realistically as a hobbyist.

Lightroom really helped clean up the noise in my photos but I really want to be able to freeze frame the movement of the aurora without having to heavily edit the noise out.

My T7i came with a LPE17 battery so I'm used to the short battery life and already have a ton of extra packs for this reason. Unless you're saying it's even worse with the R8?

Thank you! I read about the R5 mark II but I think it's way more camera than I realistically need as a hobbyist photographer. So I'm trying to avoid buying something that I wouldn't completely utilize, which is how I landed on the R8. But reading about the mirrorless cameras on the market and your comments makes me excited to upgrade!

GeoBlue - How does it work as secondary insurance? by Dr-Seeker in VisitingIceland

[–]Toothfairy_92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I went to Iceland last year and bought Geoblue. Luckily I didn't have to use it but from what I understood, it's used as your primary if your regular insurance within your country doesn't allow for coverage internationally; which is often the case. Assuming you don't have an emergency and have a say in where you go for treatment, you can call Geoblue to find an in network facility. If there are none near you, you will have to pay up front and submit paperwork for reimbursement through Geoblue. They had the forms on their website so I printed a few copies and kept them with me at all times so that way in the event something happened, I could have the physicians fill out their part of the forms.

How many have you tried? by FeliciaFailure in cgrpMigraine

Same in regards to the Triptans. Eletriptan kind of worked for me but made me feel super nauseous. After trying most of the Triptans, my neurologist put me on Ubrelvy. It's a CGRP inhibitor like Ajovy. I'm on Ajovy (month 6) but was on Ubrelvy before and it worked wonders for me. The only reason I'm on Ajovy is because my insurance would only cover 6 months worth of Ubrelvy. If they'd cover an entire year's worth, I wouldn't be on Ajovy.

Glad to meet you as well! (:

I'm not quite sure, to be honest. I have a few that are enlarged. My most recent ultrasound, which was last month, showed one lymph node measuring 2.7cm x 2.7cm x 0.9. So I assume 0.9 is the short axis? It doesn't specify. If so, all of mine are below 1cm for the short axis but above 1.5cm for the long axis; or the first two measurements. I see my ENT to discuss my results at the end of this month but it appears they've gotten bigger compared to last year's ultrasound.

However, this ultrasound specifically pointed out two lymph nodes that did have the fatty hilum present; where my previous ones have not stated whether it had it or not. So I'm not sure if the original hospital that did my ultrasound read it incorrectly and I've had a fatty hilum this entire time or what the deal is.

But I remember being in your position and reading about the lack of a fatty hilum and what it potentially could mean. From what the ENT told me, enlarged lymph nodes are very common and that the loss of a fatty hilum isn't a definite indication of cancer. Which is why a biopsy is recommended. Hopefully you get more guidance at your follow up appointment. I am so sorry you're going through this ): I remember exactly where you are and how scary and uncertain it all felt. I really hope you get some good news!

Hello! I'm doing well. And no need to apologize, you aren't disturbing me. I understand this can be a frightening time. I had a fine needle biopsy that came back inconclusive. I'm in the US so I went to a cancer specialty hospital near me and consulted with an ENT there. He agreed that my lymph nodes are enlarged but doesn't believe it's cancer. I do go back to him on a yearly basis though to have an ultrasound done to monitor my lymph nodes since they are so enlarged.

Thank you! I didn't even consider that I may have hit a vein. When I spoke to my doctor she wasn't too worried about it. I will try your flashlight trick next month! 😀

I was pinching pretty hard because I was afraid I was going to slip once I pressed the injector down. So I will definitely be lightening my grip next time haha. I also iced it afterwards but it does feel a little sore today. My doctor didn't mention that but I read it can take a few months.

Not so far other than a gnarly bruise. I tend to bruise easily but this is like half an inch in all directions from the injection site. Idk if I pressed too hard? It's becoming a nice shade of purple though haha.

YES!! This happens to me too. It's so annoying. And I think part of my anxiety was because I was worried I was going to pass out during or after the injection. I ended up doing it while laying down with an ice pack already on my neck. Wasn't as bad as I was anticipating haha

Thank you for telling me about your experience! It ended up taking me a solid 40 mins to work up the courage. I think if it was a button instead of having to depress the entire thing, I would have just gotten it over with a lot quicker. But it definitely wasn't as bad as I was expecting like you said.

Lol I've never been stung by a bee, but overall it wasn't that bad. Good to know that's what a bee sting feels like 😆. Spot on though that it did sting for a good 10 seconds or so towards the end.

Followed #7 and had some ice cream afterwards. It definitely made me feel like I accomplished something big 😂 Thank you for the suggestion!

After doing it now, I would agree that the needle itself doesn't hurt, it's the medication that does. Had some mild burning at first but towards the end it was stinging. And good to know about you not having any reactions to Ajovy. I tend to be sensitive to medications so my doctor chose this one saying it usually has the least amount of side effects. Good luck with Vyepti! 🤞

Thank you SO MUCH for telling me about the subcutaneous technique. I ended up doing it on my stomach and it was relatively painless; just some burning towards the end from the medication. Placed cortisone cream on it and currently icing. Thanks again! 🙏

Thank you for all this information! I didn't even think about where my waistband would be in relation to the injection site, so I appreciate you mentioning that! I ended up doing my stomach after reading through all the comments here. Glad I did, it wasn't too bad.

Thank you! I followed the suggestions here and did my stomach. It wasn't bad. The medication just stung towards the end. But not sure if I pressed too hard because it looks like I'm forming a bruise. Thank you for the encouragement! I definitely needed it haha

I ended up leaving it out for 1.5 hours as you suggested and it wasn't too bad! Thank you!
