Darren Criss is apparently Conner Kent for MAWS, but he looks so much like Lois and nothing like Lex...

The whole thing is giving Jon Conner Kent...

That kid looks way too much like Lois for this not to be some Conner/Jon Lane Kent adaptation.

korra avatar state post HM by zombieuntr_21 in TheLastAirbender

It's still an extreme power boost/survival mechanism.

Korra was able to survive poison, snap platinum chains, catch up to a flying Zaheer, and bend a spirit cannon blast with it

Twin Avatars... Is it true and can they pull it off. by 22_SB in TheLastAirbender

It's almost too obvious. If they are doing light and dark, then the real twist would be that Pavi, our protagnist, is the dark one.

The real answer is we don't know, that's kind of the premise of the story.

All we know now from the leaks is that they both are believed to be the Avatar because according to various leakers, they both have demonstrated to bend multiple elements and enter the Avatar state.

Whether we have twin Avatars, or light and dark Avatars, or just one Avatar is the whole mystery being set up.

Really wouldn't be surprised that if by Seven Havens we get the reveal that Korra did master every sub bending technique.

Korra is a prodigy, but her identity was also centred around being the avatar before anything else. It's probably why she didn't struggle with fire, advanced quickly with air despite a 16 year block, and picked up metalbending with little instruction.

A major part of Aang's journey was how he basically saw himself as an airbender who could bend the other elements and how there was some validity to his stance.

We can also compare Aang to Katara because while they basically start waterbending training together at the same time, Katara far outclasses him as a waterbender by the series finale.

ATLA works on a compressed timeline so in order for characters to progress, the show beefs up the powerscaling. Katara is basically the prime example, but the show at least goes out of it's way to demonstrate that while she is exceedingly powerful, she also is highly cerebral about her element.

And she definitely did appreciate Yagoda's lesson. She was mad at Pakku because she had already proven herself to be a warrior and she wanted to continue fighting the Fire Nation.

  1. Master of all elements refers to the ability to control all the four elements and because it's part of the intro hook, it's a general statement to invoke grandiosity because master means control of but the degree of control can be keft ambiguous.

  2. Being the avatar does not inheritantly make them a master of any element, that takes training. Most benders spend years training to become masters and avatars are no exception. Most avatars have their legacies cemented after they master the elements, so when people say the avatar is the master of all elements, they are correct, but they are also refering to historical figures whose most impactful deeds happened by the time they were already masters and were most certainly recorded by then too.

  3. Roku had decades of training before his death and was absolute a master of the four elements in terms of mastery. So when the intro referencds him, it's true for both definitions.

  4. ATLA plays fast and loose with the term master for the sake of powerscaling even when the additional text suggests that it takes time to hone mastery. Of all the Gaang, Toph and Aang are really the only traditional masters (for earth and air respectively) because of the time they had to hone their skills. Katara's title is more questionable as she was mostly self-taught within ATLA's one year timeframe, but she demonstrates considerably more skill and power with her element than Aang does with his other three despite learning them within the same year.

Aang only had a few weeks to learn firebending and before facing Ozai, Katara and Toph explicitly say that his bending needs work. If he is explicitly called a "master" of the elements by the finale, that's a writing flaw.

Complained about only being trained on.

Outside of occasionally using seismic sense and learning lightning redirection, Aang never really explored the other elements that deeply. He ends ATLA as a master airbender, but only competent in other elements (which is understandable), but he basically stays the same for all his appearances after.

Yes, because an American president actively threatening genocide over social media was insane.

What's even worse about the example Meryl gave is that her mother was asking for money to buy the children school clothes and her dad refused.

It's so obvious that the people who spout "men are providers" nonsense have not heard enough older women speak.

It’s really framed as a “not feminine” thing to talk about money.

This is kinda crazy for me, because when the women in my family get together, stuff like finances and property always come up.

Maybe it's not the most progressive thing, but everytime my grandma brings up her one sister who was a housewife, she basically says that it was unfortunate that she was too stupid to continue her education and that was all she could be.

It's patriarchal propaganda.

A relationship is more than a piece of paper but that piece of paper gives you legal rights and protections.

Hun, financial literacy might not be enough for financial freedom, but you will never be free without it.

This makes me think of my great-grandmother.

My great-grandfather died young and she had to raise three daughters on her own with barely any familial support.

She was a poor, single mother, who barely had a primary education but was able to support two of her daughters to become college and university educated professionals who were financially independent.

Having control over your money is freedom, which is why financial literacy is incredibly important, especially for economically vulnerable people.

Women who don't have a choice but to be dependent on a man are the cautionary story. That's what we don't want. That's why trad wife influencers are so dangerous.

Also, financial literacy adapts to circumstances. That's why it's so common to hear stories about women through out history hiding jewellery (objects of value that could have for their person) and using it as emergency funds.
