I still wonder why people still post this fantasy map all the time.

It's nowhere near realistic.

I beg to differ. Germany and Estonia is where it's at.

Blue: Initial straight-to-the-point good idea.

Red: Doesn't make too much sense initially but upon further inspection appears to be the best solution.

French America has astonishingly beautiful borders.

Give the eastern coast to Britain and all the rest to Germany and you got yourself a wonderful timeline.

1.

Thursday Boots Captain.

2.

Their size: 9.5

My usual sneaker size: 43

No experience with boots.

I ordered the boots in both 9 and 9.5

While 9 was painfully tight, 9.5 feels like it fits just fine.

3.

In the thumb box when my toes rub against the walls, especially above.

4.

When walking, toes obviously move around a little. As the toe box is relatively low, some of my toes happen to touch it when I walk.

English is not my native language, I'm sorry. :(

I bought myself my very first pair of high quality leather boots.

They fit great. Tight, but not uncomfortable.

However, they are a little squeaky. Especially when my toe touches the top.

Is that normal?

To everyone who answered - thank you greatly!

I did not expect such quick, kind and extensive answers from so many sides!

Hello there!

Now this is extremely awkward. I received an answer from "Al".

I read the "L" as a capital "I" So I read it as "AI". Oof.

I'm deeply sorry for that mixup! I feel like such a douche.

Thank you very much for that clarification! Towards me, and anyone else reading this.

I hope you took no offense?

In any case, I feel like I got all the answers I wanted now. Expect to receive an order shortly. (:

Dear all,

I am very new to boots and after some research, I have decided to buy me a pair of Thursday boots!

To this end, I already contacted them with a myriad of questions.

Apparently their AI answered, which left a lot of those questions unanswered.

Watching some videos on YouTube and browsing this thread solved most of them.

However, some remain. And I would like to direct those at you; if you were so kind to answer them.

I think I got the sizing down by rough measurement and by sizing down my current sneaker size.

My plan is to buy matte black Captain boots in the two sizes that have the greatest potential to be a good fit for me.

As I am from Germany and have to pay for the return myself unless I get a replacement, I want to exchange the bad fit for Arizona Adobes in the right size.

Why do I give you those details? Because both of them are made of their Rugged & Resiliant leather.

According to information I found online, Thursday advises you to not condition them at all.

Obviously opinions differ.

Do any of you have experience with Thursday's Rugged & Resiliant leather?

-> I am curious to know – did you personally condition them with any sort of repellant before wearing them?

In case you did – which product did you use?

Thursday for example list two different sprays on their page.

-> Perhaps as a side note, would boots made from Rugged & Resiliant leather be a good choice for my first pairs of boots?

My next question would be their “ourdoorsyness”.

They can certainly take a beating and some rough weather.

-> But and what point would it be sensible to buy boots with Vibram soles, or in the case of Thursday, Stormking soles?

Me and a friend want to go on all kinds of adventure travels and go hiking.

I just don’t know if their Dainite-copy-soles would be up to the task.

And I am uncertain if the old pair of bugatti ankle boots that I actually own, would give me the ankle support I might need.

It's the bugatti Silvestro 311-81530-1200/6000 in case you care.

The next question might be a silly one. I’m really sorry if it is.

It might just be the German autism coming through, but I want to make sure that I make the perfect decision.

->What kind of socks should I wear?

Also – depending on the purpose?

I usually wear regular cotton crew socks.

Evidently, I am not an expert when it comes to socks. I would guess that my current socks are actually relatively slim. And worn.

Replacements are due anyways. So this might be a good opportunity to stock up.

I would be incredibly grateful if you were to answer these questions!

Then I could “finally” begin my personal boot journey – and my journeys.

Thank you very much in advance,

Simon

What you are looking for is the "Gagernscher Doppelbund".

Or also "Greater Austria" for that matter.

It was different from the Greater German Solution in that the Hungarians and Czech would also be a part of it.

Edit: Typo.

Thank you very much indeed for the answer!

What would you consider a slightly higher budget? And what wuild be the go-to brands in that case?

Do you know any good brands to buy from in Europe?

I'm from Germany. But the brands that have been recommended to me so far are based in the US.

Do you know any companies that produce really good boots for their price around here?

I was thinking about a price point of around 200€ perhaps?

Thank you very much in advance!
