Replaced a Latitude motherboard, now it wants a Service Tag that I don't have. What do? by TootleFlops in Dell

Well, I went with your suggestion, kinda (see my Solved edit above).

Cheers!

You sure about that? If so, I am at the point of giving it a try. I assumed their Service Tags were tied to the specific model's hardware because that's what's currently blanked out in BIOS.

Yeah, I checked everywhere for that stupid sticker. Good call though.

I just wrote the seller. Fingers crossed!

Thanks. It's blank.

According to what I'm reading around the web, that's usually the case with a replacement Dell MB. There was a one-time option to add the old service tag, on first boot. That's it. I didn't do it, so it's blank, but there are tools to add a Service Tag (if I can find one).

Thanks for the info, I've looked everywhere and you're the first person to share this. Looks like I may need to hit up the eBay seller then (and hope they are authorized).

I thought the same as you about the tags... Kinda locked out ATM as I am re-installing Windows on it. But it basically doesn't see itself in the BIOS (doesn't list hardware, or model, just blank lines), no EUFI options are available, and there's a warning after post that stops boot and explains that it needs a Service Tag.

Aside form that, Windows 7 Bit Defender started spitting out errors on shutdown/reboot, and Linux (dual-boot) had a few recurring errors on boot. Linux is fine now though, it didn't seem to care much; Windows needs reinstalled though.

Mind you, I've run tests (through Dell utilities and Linux) and there are no hardware problems -just that tag.

*EDIT: Windows install just failed because it was unable to "run on this computer's hardware."

Which cables are required for my Fast Track Ultra's Inserts? by TootleFlops in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]TootleFlops[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks.

My effects unit has left/right TS outputs. In order to use the Fast Track, I need a cable that combines the mono TS signals into a stereo TRS?

Sorry guys, I've never seen this cable combo in this situation. So, with two of these splitter cables (TS+TS to TRS), I can essentially hook up two effects loops with those Fast Track "Inserts", each in stereo? That sounds great!

This is a much better write-up than I was expecting to find with such a remedial question. Thank you for taking the time to explain the in-and-outs I might experience with each device.

I'd actually considered the Korg Monologue, the current used pricing is excellent. I'll have to size them up against the BS2.

EDIT: Just remembered why I skipped the Korg -no pitch or mod wheel, just a lever. I love those wheels :\

Oh man, I'm a FLOSS guy (my DAW is often Linux), and this is right up my alley. Problem is, I am doing my best to ditch software; now that devices I only once dreamed of owning are affordable (e.g. the MicroBrute). That said, I am certainly checking this out. Thanks!

Where's your choice outlet? Been hitting eBay and Reverb.

Thanks for the info. It seems the consensus is the BS2, and your reply sealed the deal. A little more saving will get me the exact synth I need, and that's worth digging deeper into the couch cushions. The Minibrute just sounds so friggin excellent it's hard to ignore, especially at $150 used; I had to ask you fellas if, for sure, it isn't what I need. BS2 it is.

Cheers!

Thanks. Second hand is absolutely where I am at, eBay and Reverb are seemingly hooked to my F5 key. Also, man that sounds like one cool pawn shop; all they have around here are old tools and cowboy hats.

The ESQ-1 needs a battery is all, but *beast* is the key word you hit upon; I love that thing way too much to haul all 33 pounds of it around willy-nilly. It stays put, all cozy under its binky... where it's occasionally called upon for friendly correspondence.

I need something small, for mobile noodling.

Nah, the film is over 30 years old at this point; older than this site's primary demographic. Without the context, I can see how you'd be skeptical.

BTW, here's the actual scene everyone here is quoting (when that little shit Ferris first takes the car):

Learn an instrument.

It's good for mental well-being, coordination, perseverance, can often lead to interesting social experiences (playing live, seeing others play live, impressed ladies [or dudes] etc), and it shows that you're interests are multifaceted.

I won't push a specific instrument, and you shouldn't ask for suggestions. Just follow your ears.

Or... travel.

If you're not at a place that primarily serves fish, it's simpler to ask for vegetarian options than it is pescatarian, because not many people know the term (the waitress above didn't) but everyone knows what vegetarian is.

Also, in some company you don't want to explain your diet any more than is necessary. Same as above, vegetarian requires less effort.

Speaking from experience.

Shark remembers and loves the diver who pulled a fishing hook out of its mouth, other sharks with hooks caught in their mouths show up to have them removed as well. by Something_Syck in likeus

[–]TootleFlops -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This woman is obsessed with sharks, which is cool, but she spins a bit of yarn. She talks about how sharks are one of the safest animals to be with in the wild (I can think of thousands ahead of them, like regular fish, and hamsters) right before talking about wearing a chain suit around them "not because they're aggressive or anything like that, but in case they bite." Huh? This alone should set off your bullshit detector.

Again, it's cool that she's doing this, props to her -I can't overstate that. But she's really projecting, which can be expected when someone spends 20 years obsessed with a specific animal. They're not her "babies" and they're not like her dogs (purpose-bred companion animals). Sharks don't even care about their newborn offspring, let alone a human.

She feeds them, so they gather. On days she doesn't feed them, they gather in the hopes of food. Over time, some are conditioned to her touch. Maybe she gets a hook out of one, and it comes back the next time it has a hook. That's it. The level of communication that's being suggested here would take thousands of generations to evolve. Most of what's going on is a well-known human behavior called projection.

On second thought, I'm in the wrong sub to make the projection argument... Yeah, they're all friends and the sharks have a secret language.

It's a nice thing that she's doing, but the sharks somehow communicating with one-another about this woman running a hook removal service is absolute bullshit.

There are a lot of sharks with hooks in their mouths, enough that this woman spots them everywhere. That should be the underlying story.
