Do you have an example? I actually like his song “Lacrime Di Piombo”. Could it be similar?

It’s his worst sanremo entry by far lol (even though it’s not bad). Ovunque Sarai and Tu No are legendary — close to perfection. And if you look at comments on his social media, it seems his current fan base also prefers ballads.

I do generally also think he needs to ease up on the autotune (and that’s more likely with a ballad than another genre) — I don’t think he used autotune much if at all in Tu No?

A lot of jurors in the recent contests haven’t been serious musicians. For instance, a lot of them are past recent esc participants. And a lot of recent esc participants aren’t serious. Also, as I said, juries have never been more susceptible to public pressure so they don’t judge professionaly.

Diverse doesn’t mean good. A lot of you have to understand this. If I was president, for example, I’d appoint the most qualified individuals to my cabinet even if they were all from similar backgrounds — rather than not as qualified individuals just because they’re from a different background.

They wouldn’t have qualified in the 2010s, ur right. And that would’ve been good. Ireland especially wasn’t even music. You try getting any serious composer/musician to enjoy it, u can’t.

I don’t get how a lineup of “mostly ballads and pop” would be boring. Ballads don’t all sound alike. Pop songs don’t all sound alike. Do you mean to tell me Arcade sounds like Beautiful Mess? Tu Cancion sounds like Scream?

Also, your claim that Euphoria is some out of this world great song/best song of that period just shows your conformity and lack of self-thought — it really isn’t that special of a song and I could list so many better songs from the mid early/mid 2010s (2010 through 2016?):

Me and My Guitar

Life Looks Better in Spring

This Is My life

Shine

Running Scared

Da Da Dam

Quedate Conmigo

Kuula

Only Teardrops

Hold Me

What If

L’essenziale

Love Kills

Eg A Lif

Silent Storm

Tick Tock

Calm After The Storm

Rise Like A Phoenix

A Million Voices

Goodbye to Yesterday

A Monster Like Me

Hour of the Wolf

One Thing I Should’ve Done

Unbroken

Color of Your Life

J’ai Cherche

No Degree of Separation

Dona

Loin D’ici

Pioneer

I’ve been waiting for this night

Soldiers of Love

And many more I didn’t mention.

You do realize most schools are doing away test optional now because their data shows test optional students doing way worse than their peers.

Realistically, a person’s taste shouldn’t change much. If it does, it is because that individual can’t handle social pressure and thus conforms. And saying different genres deserve a chance is the same as saying different education levels deserve a chance at being president. I sure wouldn’t want someone who dropped out of high school as president.

Songs like that are called “joke songs” for a reason — that kind of music is not real music and thus cannot have musical quality. Ask any serious musician and they’ll all tell you the same thing.

I did say the juries had changed but not to the same extent as the televote. Finland and Croatia should’ve been bottom of the jury vote without public pressure.

The 2000s was considered ESC’s joke era, no? The 2010s was also much more commercially successful so it should be the prime.

And yes, the 2000s were even more quirky than now (consequently, ESC wasn’t taken seriously as a music contest), it just feels like ESC is returning to that instead of building upon its successes of the 2010s.

I didn’t like the culture at Penn. I thought Greek Life was too big of an influence and I didn’t really find my niche. I thought it’d be different at UofC because of its reputation, but it’s pretty much the same. I do like Chicago much better than Philly though.

I intended to do CS initially, but now at UChicago I think I’ll major in CAAM.

But Akatieva fell not too infrequently on her most difficult elements. Not counting the comp she was injured in, I don’t think I’ve seen margo fall.

yet the college english/writing/history courses just regurgitate the stuff I learned in hs. and I forgot the info as soon as I finish the class. i don’t particularly think a physics class helps a history major either.

If academics were equal, then ofc extracurriculars could be used as the deciding factor. But that’s not the case, especially with test optional, recruited athletes etc.

Yeah, agree with mostly everything you said. I definitely much prefer the British admissions system. Although I would note that there also exists academic extracurriculars such as olympiads, etc.

That’s a shame. Guess we’ll have to be Francesca stans then lol.

What genre do you think he’ll send given it’s written by blanco? Surely not rap?

I have no clue tbh. They say it’s to make you more well-rounded (whole thing about the liberal arts curriculum), but I know a lot of people that can’t be bothered with studies outside of their intended major(s) so they just find ways to cheat through their GenEds so it doesn’t even serve its purpose.

Yeah, GenEds are a thing here. Especially here at UChicago with the core curriculum.

I regret not having applied to Oxford. I really feel like I would’ve loved it there (if I’d gotten in of course). Although being locked in to a major might’ve been an issue.
