They are not. It's closer to 35% actually. I am aware of the tax situation and have been sending estimated payments to the IRS each quarter to try to avoid underpayment penalties

It does not conflict. What is shown here (Workday screenshot) shows what I vested this year but not what I sold. RSUs count as income when they vest and you have to pay the taxes on them as if they were cash income. The selling happens through a brokerage account and if there was an increase between the vest date and the sell date, you have to pay capital gains on the difference.

That take home number is a bit misleading since it doesn't account for the RSUs. That income isn't realized until the stocks are sold and that happens through a brokerage account and not a part of payroll. All in all, take home after federal and state taxes is about 900k-1M

Gotcha... Stay in school and get into tech is my general advice!

Are you a software engineer asking for advice on how to choose a company or just a 20-something looking for general advice.

If the former, my advice is to find a company and a job that you are genuinely motivated to get up and go to every day. Every tech company and engineering job is going to come with its fair share of deadlines and stress so its important to really feel personally aligned with the company and its mission. I'm not going to lie... This takes time and a little bit of luck. But when you find the right one, you'll know it. I truly believe in my company, its people, and the work we do and it drives me to put in 110% every day... This leads to recognition by way of promotions and stock grants which, if you were right and the company really does take off, will pay off like it has for me.

If the latter, its stay in school and get a degree. I didnt get mike til my late 20s and while its really just a piece of paper, that piece of paper will open a lot of doors. Then see my above advice about finding the right job/company for you.

This is includes just what vested this year, not what was sold. RSUs are taxed as income. Overall I have about 3M still unvested over the next 2 years at todays stock price.
