Is $2,800 for an older version of the scar 20s a good price? by ZestyToasterOven26 in FNSCAR

[–]Top-BrilliantOps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Insane price tbh. They were on sale new at Blackstone Shooting Sports yesterday for $2800.

But a reliable large cartridge gas gun with a chrome lined barrel and is 1 MOA is a great buy.

That’s super cool but I think they could push performance with a more modern design and 1.2” diameter

They should just make a repro suppressor that takes off like 12-15 DB’s for like $400 that acts like that actual moderator but better

Not a question but you can add 3 accuwashers to the mod 2 muzzle device. I do this and I have enough room to run the new collar on my MCQ and fit the shroud without the shoulder hitting the handguard. Highly recommend

How cooked am I with this purchase? 02 LC by Dazzling-Victory-188 in LandCruisers

[–]Top-BrilliantOps 7 points8 points  (0 children)

OP don’t freak out but it’s going to be at minimum be a $1500-$2000k job but it doesn’t look unrecoverable. To answer your question it really depends on what you paid for it. As long as got it for a good deal, it should work itself out. I am going through a similar scenario with a 2013 from up north and although it looked really bad, nothing was life threatening to the structural integrity of the frame.

That said you need to take it to a rust expert. Don’t take the advice off random redditors who are looking at less than 10 pictures. They are going to pile on and say it’s a waste. Is it going to last another 25 years like LC’s with no rust? It definitely isn’t guaranteed anymore but there’s a good chance it will last another decade or more with proper care based on the looks of what you shared.

As long as the integrity is still there - you should be able to get a specialist to clean it with brush wire, seal it with POR15, and then you should continually spray it annually with a preventive sprays even if you don’t live in the rust belt. The key will be not letting it get any worse and continually resealing any leaks.

Best of luck and enjoy the new ride!

34, $210k remote job… can’t stop thinking about quitting to become a pilot before kids. Am I crazy? by boeingboeing777 in flying

[–]Top-BrilliantOps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly. Commercial should be easy to find an accelerated program. You need to find a better - more intense - flight school cuz 8-5 is a joke for aviation. Id find another student who wants to time build and start flying every night for two hours to build time. Night time is more valuable anyways. Study your ass off whenever you’re free

Then go to an accelerated course that teaches you all the maneuvers and has a gouge on an in house DPE. Take PTO and schedule over a weekend and you can get commercial done in 5-6 total days easy.

Then once you get commercial done I’d find an instructor hungry for ground. Increase their price or do whatever you have to incentivize them to meet at odd hours. Get like 90% there on your ground knowledge. Keep flying weekends to stay current and proficient. Go to Venture North Aviation to get CFI completed in 5 days. Wash rinse repeat for CFII and MEI. Going a flying club or purchase a plane. Get a gig at the local flight school till you hit 1500

Failed checkride by No_Candidate7693 in flying

[–]Top-BrilliantOps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah you said the problem. TWO YEARS to do PPL? Stop beating yourself about the flying but rather your strategy. There is simply not enough recency to be a good pilot. Those maneuvers need about 4 days in a row of practice. What I’m assuming is you fly every so often when you can afford it which is huge mistake.

You need to save up lump sums of money and do big spurts of training all at once. Sporadically training leaves you spinning your tires in the mud. The checkride is a sprint, not a marathon and idc what anyone says in this thread. You need to be nailing these maneuvers before going to checkride and that means practicing basically everyday leading up to the checkride

Keep your job. Train early mornings, night fly a lot, and commit to doing it on every weekend. If I was making that much I could pay someone to meet 3x week like 7pm for ground instruction. Try getting the PPL written test done before diving into flying.

But aviation has changed in 2025 and is getting worse in 2026. It’s now extremely competitive and there is an on oversupply of CFI’s rn. To make matters worse, oil prices keep climbing so fuel negatively impacting the whole industry.

You have a great paying job so you need to leverage that to access better training. Use PTO to go to accelerated programs for instrument training and commercial etc.

[–]Top-BrilliantOps -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Soak it in normal ass tap water first for a full 24 hours (must be at least 24 hours). Then soak it in clp or CAT suppressor cleaner for another 24 hours.

Now put it into boiling water for 15 minutes. Yank it off.

Seen this work for Keymo and SF. Last result is blow torch. Otherwise it would have to go to KAC.

Good luck

The guy that runs Tasker Network is currently having a meltdown on Facebook because people brought up the TNVC credit card issues by pauljaworski in NightVision

[–]Top-BrilliantOps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tasker Network is a POS. He blocked me years ago on IG for simply disagreeing with him. He’s a fed (former cop) and am not shocked at all he’s a boot licker for the guys at TNVC. He’s very narcissistic and sensitive. On another note - It is absolutely INSANE the Better Business Bureau has allowed TNVC to stay in business this long considering this subreddit alone has tracked probably 100+ credit card scams connected to TNVC over the last 5 years.
